My comments are solely based on my own personal experience of what has happened to me. I want to tell people to what complications "could happen" when considering this type of surgery.
When I went in for my "consultation," I met with 15 other large people that were also considering "WLS" surgery. Brian, (Program Director) of the Live Lite Program explained (sales pitch) to the group the 2 types of surgery that Dr. Rose performs. Now, they don't tell you the cost, but I've been told that it is the patient’s responsibility to have asked the cost of the surgery. Which is approx. $51,000.00
Brian showed us 2 diagrams, and gave out 2 handouts; we also watched the "Carnie Wilson" testimonial tape, to seal the deal. I was suppose to meet with Dr. Rose that day, but she had to perform emergency surgery on another patient. I finally met Dr. Rose (2 months later) at my pre-op, but I had to piggyback that appointment with another patient, because she was short on time. Dr. Rose never discussed my medical history with me, before my surgery.
2 weeks post-op - Aftercare is equally as important as the surgery itself. Too bad, I've had nothing but complications (vomiting), I knew their was something wrong with me, but I just didn't know what. So, I complained to Dr. Rose of "vomiting", she explained it to me as "behavior modification." "Like it was on purpose?" I saw her 3 times and then was sent to see Brian (the program director) for 2 times. He told me "that they're some people who just look at food and get sick (nauseated.)" I was so mad that no one was helping me with this problem, I had had no food for the past 5 weeks, only liquids.
7 weeks post-op - And I still haven't had any food, because of vomiting. I went to a specialist who also not only performs this type of surgery, (but also teaches this surgery to other physicians) in Mobile, at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Rodning (334- 415-1475) saw my (2) upper GI’s (barium tests) and explained to me that the diameter of my small bowel (intestine) is the size of a pinhole and is too small for any food to past through to my intestines, and can only have liquids. He recommended that I have an endiscope done ASAP, because I was weak and suffering.
8 weeks post-op - I had my endiscope done at Keesler AFB Gastroentology Clinic, Dr. Major Franklin was suprised at how small the intestinal opening was and proceeded to dilate the opening (intestine.) I have felt 100% better and have been able to have food, without vomiting.
I will not be going back to Dr. Rose's office, I no longer have confidence in her care, and I feel that she lacks the experience of the signs of my complication.
Again this is only my personal opinion, and the type of care I received. I know that they’re other patients who have received better care and have had no complications and are very happy with Dr. Rose and her staff, I’m just not one of them.

ok..I have something to say. I was reading on Dr. Rose's page and a lady named Dana posted on 8/16. I have a comment to her on what she said about Dr. Rose and her staff. First off my sister Penny Torrence had surgery the day after Dana did. Penny was up out of bed and walking the day of her surgery and "poorDana" was still laying in bed. I can tell you from watching my sister go through this surgery that it takes will power and my sister has a lot of it. You have to get up and move even when you don't feel like it. Laying around on your ass is not what that tool was designed to do. Your tool is not a quick fix its just what it says...a tool to help YOU be able to loose weight. Secondly your eating habits. I guess if i gorged myself on things that I wasn't supposed to have i would walk around and throw up all the time too. Don't take all your frustrations out on Dr. Rose. She isn't your babysitter and she isn't going to sit at your house and say "Dana...3 cheeseburgers are going to hurt coming back up." It doesn't make her a bad doctor. It may just mean that you are a bad patient.
As for Dr. Rose's staff. Bryan isn't some kind of "salesman" as you call it. He is a knowledgeable man that has even written a book on the subject of bariatric surgery. Any of you reading this posting please be sure to look Bryan up on the Mississippi section of this site. He is from Biloxi and his name is listed. Ask him about his book. Ask him about his experience. He is a great person and would do anything in the world to help anyone that called upon him and asked. Let this be a lesson. He who lives in glass houses...shouldn't throw stones.

PS>>>CONGRATS PENNY....2 months post op 9/3 and is down 41 pounds! I love you girl. I knew you could do it.

I thought Dr. Rose was a wonderful person. Her staff were all very sweet and always helping and answering any questions I had. The RN that works in the office has had the surgery herself and can give you first hand answers. They strongly emphasize to drink all your water and protein, at least 55 grams a day, and to start walking as soon as possible. I had Laproscopic RNY surgery and the surgery was a success with no complications. They emphasize that the risks for this surgery is no greater that staying the way you are and continue with health problems. The staff at Gulf Coast Medical Center were all wonderful and helped you in any way after surgery. All of these opinions were of my own experience with my doctor and staff, I cannot guarantee what your experiences will be like, however mine were great.

My first impression of Dr. Rose was "CONFIDENCE". During my consult she explained everything to me in a calm, unrushed manner. She answered every question I had with extreme honesty. Dr. Rose firmly believes that after care is a very important part of this life changing surgery.
The Live Lite staff are wonderful, caring, patient people who have helped me through my insurance battle, and the MANY questions that have come to mind during this pre-op time. Judy, Bryan, and Brittany are like having my very own cheering section in the game of "life". I know in my heart they will be there for me anytime I need them... This is one office that is run like a well oiled machine. No stones left unturned!!
On a scale of 1-10, I rate Dr. Amy Rose and her entire staff a 10+.

My first impression of Dr. Amy Rose was how wonderfully understanding she was to me. I have only met her one time and loved her. I even had to ask her, as a skinny person, why she went into the field of bariatric medicine. She told me she saw how we were discriminated against and wanted to help. This is her part.

Totally supportive would be the words that describe her office staff. They make you feel like family. When you call the office they never treat you like you are bothering them. They get excited when you are excited. They are just so wonderful.

There really isnt anything I didnt like about the staff.

There aftercare service appears it is going to be extensive. I know several people that are having their surgery elsewhere. We have been comparing notes. I was surprised to hear that they dont have a book from their doctor telling them about pre and post op routine. I have read the book several times and feel i am very prepared for this surgery. 10 days and I cant wait.

Being in the medical field it didnt take long to go over the risk factors. I talk to patients about these everyday. Although, I must say when it pertains to you it sounds so different. hehehe

As far as pre-op I would rate the whole office as a 10. I will have to rate the post op later.

I would much rather a doctor with no bedside manner, but superior surgical skills anyday. I can always blow off what they say, but I cant get my stomach back. Lucky for me, Dr. Amy Rose has both of these skills mastered. She is a very unique doctor.

I met Dr. Rose the first time on 1-25-2001. She is nothng like you would imagine a surgeon to be. I expected her to be very busy and rushed to get me in and out. This was not the case at all. Dr. Rose took time to make sure all my questions answered and that I understood all the pro's and con's of this surgery. Not only did she do this for me, she took time to make sure my fiance knew this information too, and answered his questions. She wanted him to be comfortable with her also. Not many doctors take the time to talk to their patients let alone the paitents respective others. I have not had surgery yet but even at this point I can pick up the phone and call the LiveLight office and get answers to anything I may think of. Brittany in the office is the BEST. She is like having a cheerleader in your corner just when you need her. Brian is AWSOME too, he has bent over backwards to get all the information necessary to my insurance company and to the right person. My personal opinion is, I could not be dealing with better people and a better program. THANKS LIVE LIGHT STAFF!!! You are all AWSOME!

She was wonderful!!! First they invited me
by appointment to come for a 4 hour free
evaluation...a class to educatate you..then
saw exercise/nutritionist..then got to talk
to Dr. Rose about possible surg...all this
free without even making a surgical committ-
ment or knowing about my insurance. They
also had a scrap book of success photos to
look at. (hundreds of them)!! Also they
welcomed my questions and said "Ask anything"
I would recommend this program to anyone.
They told you what to expect pre and postop-
even telling you in advance how you would
eat for the next year.
The staff in the office and hospital were
great...not judgemental at all! Very helpful!
Best thing I have ever done for myself!
I am a Registered Nurse myself and know the
medical field...and I can honestly say I
did not have one negative experiance in the
office or in the hospital.

Dr. Rose is a jewel and an excellent surgeon - she is very supportive and will answer any and all questions and not make you feel like an idiot for asking the question. She is there to encourage you - once a month she participates in a support group for patients that she has operated on - I may mention here that she is part of the LiveLight Program that Tenethealth Care in La/MS.
My impression of her has not changed yet.
Office staff is the greatest.
There is nothing I liked least - the entire team is top notch.
Yes other patients should know about her and the LiveLight program and how they are there for their patients from start to finish
Yes-there is a structured aftercare program - Judy the nurse is available and Bryan the nutrionist and program director is always available and if you need to speak to the dr. directly she will call you.
MD explained risks openly and directly one by one. Overall my surgical and post op experience has been a good one.Dr. Rose is excellent in all areas.
