4/24/01: I just called the office and got an appointment for 5/8/01. I'm so excited!! Dr. Rose is on my network insurance and so is the hospital. That was my only real concern.... how to pay for something that I know will SAVE MY LIFE>
5/8/01: Went to the live lite Center in Gulfport, MS today for an orientation type meeting with 5 other women who are considering WLS. Brian Woodard was great, answering every question that was asked and even made us laugh. The office staff was wonderful and will begin working on the insurance asap. I hope to know something in about 3 to 4 weeks since my insurance does cover a "one time only" wls benefit and both Dr. Rose and the hospital are on my insurance network. HOPEFULLY< there will be no problems with the insurance.
6/1/01: I am approved through the insurance company and am waiting on a surgery date!
7/20/01: Dr. Rose and the entire staff at Live Light were wonderful to me. I couldn't have asked for better.

UPDATE ! ! ! ! ! ! 8/30/01
I can't say enough good things about the entire Live Light Staff and Dr. Rose. I had to go in Tuesday, 8/28/01 because I couldn't keep any food down. I had an uppper GI and immediately found out that YES, I had a constricted anastomosis which was blocked by scar tissue along with (MY BAD) an allegra D tablet which further irritated my pouch and caused more constriction. Judy, the nurse at Dr. Rose's office, went above and beyond the call of duty and found a doctor to endoscope and dilate me IMMEDIATELY. I was on the coast a total of 3 hours between the upper GI and the Endoscopy. I feel WONDERFUL!!!!!! I really feel Dr. Rose's office was most cooperative and certainly helped me through this ordeal. I NEVER felt rushed, hurried, ignored, or not special. I am totally confident of the staff and Dr. Rose. They are all professional and very personable. I am sorry that Mrs. Dana felt she was given a "sales pitch", and had to "piggy back" with another patient (I welcomed that... the other lady asked questions that I had forgotten to ask.) The uncontrolled vomiting could be from other causes, like not eating the proper diet. If Mrs. Dana had such concerns, she shouldn't have had her surgery with Dr. Rose. If you are researching doctors and look at this as well as others who posted about Dr. Rose, remember this each is only ONE PERSON'S opinion. You must make this decision on your own. God Bless each of you on your journey... and to the Live Light Staff and especially Dr. Rose. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10/18/01: UPDATE! I had my three month checkup yesterday. Dr. Rose was wonderful... very much a "one on one" visit, even though she had just returned from an emergency surgery. I find it strange that Dana Vatour was there at the Live Light Office downing Dr. Rose in her own office and she didn't even have an appointment. Dana also had "Heath Bar" candy with her.. how INSULTING to the others there for appointments.

I have gone for an initial consult session at Live Light in Biloxi, MS. I was very pleased with the staff at the center and felt comfortable discussing the procedures.
I met with a group of 6 prospective patients and most had a support person with them. The program director/nutritionist discussed an overveiw of the services offered and then addressed questions from the individuals. I liked the group format because I heard several questions answered that I myself may not have thought to ask. The meeting was 2 hrs in length approximately and then we met one on one with Dr. Rose. She is very informative, professional and has a sense of humor. I feel comfortable enough with her skills and deameanor that I plan to have the procedure.
My insurance has approved me and I recieved the written confirmation over the Christmas holiday. I can't wait to talk to the office to schedule my pre-op appointments.
So far, I\'m impressed with staff/surgeon and will update as I progress.
*****Update*****01/02/02 I recieved my insurance approval letter via mail on 12/20/01 (dated 12-17-01). I've talked to Brittany in the office and she has also recieved the letter. The next step is waiting for the nurse, Judy, to call me and let me know she is mailing a psyc. eval. The holidays have probably slowed the process but I'm soooo excited and impatient! Checkout the personal comments sections for more updates.

Dr. Rose and her staff have been VERY,VERY helpful. They have happily answered every question I have ever had and thrown in some helpful suggestions to make my healing process easier. Dr. Rose is not only awesome at what she does (An expert on lap procedures) but she is compassionate and honestly CARES about her patients. I have never for a moment regretted my decision to have the surgery with her. If you are in the area, I would suggest Dr. Rose in a flash!
I must say this, in the initial consultation I was told that my insurance company would be called two weeks after the letter for approval was sent to be sure that they got it and that didn\'t happen. I waited for six weeks assuming that the situation was being handled and it wasn\'t. I had my initial consultation on July 3 and did not have my surgery until 10/29 (That early because they had a cancelation). In order to make your wait as little as possible, no matter where you live or what Dr. you choose to have surgery with, keep up on your approval status. Call often and don\'t the the insurance people jerk you around. I wish I had originally taken more action myself...

The day I went for my initial group consultation Dr. Rose was called away to the hospital and was unable to see me. I am now scheduled for surgery and have never met her!
I will meet her during my pre-op appointment and will update you all then.
12-07-01 Three months post-op, Dr. Rose is the most caring and considerate
physician I have ever seen. She always seems truly interested in how I am and if I am having any problems. Brittany and Judy are also a great help! They are
like part of my family now!

I chose to have surgery and to have Dr.Rose perform the surgery after my daughter successfully went through her surgery. I am currently 2 months post op and I have lost approximately 60 pounds. To date I have only had minor problems and would not even consider them complications. I met Dr. Rose 9 months ago in the holding room at Gulf Caost prior to her performing my daughter's surgery. I was instantly impressed that she took the time to introduce herself and to ask if I had any questions. After seeing her success, my daughter convinced me that the surgery could improve my condition. I had investigated surgeons in my home area of Southern Georgia and found one MD who did the procedure in Jacksonville, FL. After getting the run around from him for almost a year and still no surgery date or even confirmation he would do the surgery I had given up on the whole procedure. So when Trena encouraged me to ask if Dr. Rose could perform my surgery I was hesitant as I did not want to get the run around again. I called and made the initial consultation appointment. From the time of my initial consulation to the surgery it took 6 weeks. I had spoke with Judy prior to my consultation in which she received a detailed medical history. Once the consulatation occured it went great. They have taken the time to organize the meeting in a way that you have plenty of time for questions. I never once then or since surgery have felt rushed or that someone would not address my concerns. Based on my history and information from my PCM Dr. Rose agreed to surgery. At that time she stated all the risks and since I was a revision of a stomach stapling from 1978 she further explained all the extra risks and possible complications. I remember her stating she would try her hardest to keep the procedure laproscopic, something the other surgeon had said would be impossible to even attempt. Later on I would find out Dr. Rose would have to work extra hard to keep my surgery laproscopic but she was able. After my consultation it took about 10 days to get insurance approval. Once the approval went through I was given my surgery and pre-op date. A strength of the program I believe is the pre-op day. Although it is a long and drawn out day I found that to get all the test and medical visits out in one day was a relief. I ended the day by seeing Dr. Rose and again she took the time to answer all my questions and further expalin the procedure to me. She also spoke with me concerning after care, as it is an 8 hour drive for me to Biloxi she wanted me to stay in town through the first week as those were the "complication prone days". She further gave me at that time the time frame for after care visits (2weeks, 1,3,6,9 and 12 months). Brian, Judy and Brittany also took the time to answer any last minute questions. On the day of surgery, Dr. Rose came into the holding room and spoke with my family. Throughout the procedure the circulating nurse informed my daughter at various intervals. My surgery which was estimated to be 1.5-2 hours long ended up taking almost 4 hours. During the procedure I was found to have alot of internal adhesions that caused delays. True to her word, rather than convert to open she kept the procedure laproscopic. As a nurse, I know that this would not have occurred had I had 99% of other surgeons. Most surgeons would have gave up and gone open as it is easier on them. During my hospital stay I saw Dr. Rose twice a day and had nurses that were well voiced in this procedure and the special after care it requires which I believe to be another plus of the program. I feel Dr. Rose has an excellent bedside manner and is extemely competent in this procedure as a surgeon. After only two months I can see the changes my legs and feet do not hurt as much as before. I also have not had the need for a blood pressure pill since surgery. I can begin to tell that my sleep apnea is resolving although I still have problems occasionally. My only complaint concerning the program is that Dr. Rose's primary office is quick to inform you to call Live Light instead of them taking the time to at least answer your concerns. I had one occasion were I needed to call her primary nurse as Judy was out of the Live light office and it took me a couple of phone calls to get through for her to assist me. I am sure this is to discourage Live Light patient to call the wrong office but there are times were you have to call the upstairs office and they may need to realize that and become more receptive. When I went for my one month visit on October 18th I saw patients in the office who 6 months out had lost only 60 pounds but when you question them regarding there eating habits you were quick to understand why. The program sets forth guidelines and you will lose weight no matter what but after putting your self through this why not follow the guidelines. I have gotten sick three times since surgery and all three times I have strayed from the guidelines. I would have loved to call and ask "why is this happening" but when I told my daughter about it all three times she asked "Well what did you do wrong". I believe that anyone who has a problem or is unhappy with the surgery needs to ask themselves were they went wrong and when they stopped following the guidelines. I have seen this surgery work wonders for people and I have also seen it not work and following the guidelines seems to be the defining point for everyone either way.

My First impression of Dr. Rose was that she was VERY young. Have since read her bio and found it to be very impressive. Staff is fabulous. A real family type atmosphere and very supportive in all aspects. Dr. Rose even requires some tests that insurance company does not require so as to insure the total safety of operation. My initial consult was September 11 (rather memorable date) and surgery is scheduled for November 12. A mere two months. Pre-Op scheduled for November 1st. Had my psychological test on October 17th. Met some great people there that day. Very supportive, except for Dana. She was so negative.

I absolutley loved Dr. Rose. I had met her while she was making rounds in the hospital were I worked and she struck me as a very caring and compassionate surgeron. I have alot of experience with surgeons as I am a surgical nurse and knew she always goes the extra step for her patients. I had interviewd 4 other physcians that did the surgery and she came out way above everyone else. After speaking with her staff in a detailed conversation even before I went to my consultation I knew the whole staff including Bryan, Judy and Brittany were a staff that worked together and cared for the total patient not just the surgical part. I went to my consultation with 5 men and two women who have since all had the surgery. I take into consideration the fact that prior to you initial consulatation information is gathered concerning your medical and insurance history. Prior to the first office visit you are already on your way to having the surgery. All the information in the visit is straight forward and plenty of time is allowed for questions. I have lost 119 pounds in 6 months and take into consideration I have followed the guidelines to the letter and I believe anyone who doesn't has no grounds to complain about Dr. Rose her staff or the procedure. Never once was I given permission to stray from the guidelines, I mean if it says no beef for 6 months isn't that what it means. I believe some people hope this is the miracle all obese people hope for, all the Roux-n-Y is, is a tool that you more than likely couldn't do without. All thes points are brought out from the beginning by all concerned. After insurance approval I was given a pre-op date and surgery date. Granted I would have liked to do the surgery quicker but I came in about the time that Dr. Rose began doing the lap vesion. After researching the open vs. lap I was quite happy to wait. While in the hospital Dr. Rose saw me prior to surgery and kept my family informed during the surgery(both very uncommon practices). Once I was in my room Dr. Rose came to see me twice a day and this is unheard of in the medical world. When I wanted to go home the day after surgery we discussed at lengths the pros and cons and although I was upset I chose to stay in the hospital 48 hours. One thing I can say for sure is it is all in the walking anybody who lays in bed for longer than 5 minutes after getting to there room is only hurting themselves. I have seen Dr. Rose in her office 5 times since surgery and she has always answered every question and taken the time to address my concerns. I have called the office and have had all my concerns answered promptly. I do realize this surgery is not for everyone. I do wish that those people who can't follow the guidelines, beware as slander is a messy thing and comments made in front of other people are slander. I would be willing to talk to anyone anticipating surgery or looking into surgery. It works and can make your new life wonderful. Use the tool wisely.

DR. Rose is very caring and has a beautiful smile. Shows she cares about her patients . I trust her , have heard good things about her and her staff, they are very informed about everything. They stress how important you learn to use this procedure as a learning tool. They are their for you from the begining till ....the....end..their is no cut off date ...will answer all you re questions when ever you feel you need to call them. The door is always open. Makes you feel like your part of the team,,,

Although I was going to use Dr. Mazzeo in Vicksburg, I was sick of getting the run around from his nurse. SO I have switched to Dr.Amy Rose. Bryan called me, which shocked me... a Dr.s office that actually calls you back! WOW, He explained there whole process and after care.. It just sounds so much better, and safer then what I could have gotten here intown. Can't wait to get the ball rolling.
I have now met with Dr. Amy Rose twice, and I have to say I AM SO GLAD I CHANGED DR.s. She is awesome, so easy going, and tells you everything to expect, and leaves time for questions. She wants you to feel totally at ease, and I do. I believe I have found the BEST surgeon in MS to do the lap RNY!
