I can't thank Dr Abkin and his staff enough! Without them I would never had taken the step to move forward with my surgery. I Knew I needed to do it, but was scarred to death! I believe Things Happen for a Reason! I work at St Clares and have been thinking about weight loss surgery. I have just been to chicken to move forward and actually attend a seminar and get the ball rolling. I know several people at the Hospital who have done it and they have told me how good Dr Abkin is and so nice. But i still was nervous.

Then it happened... I ran into a nice man while i was preparing a room for a meeting. He was very easy to talk to kind, and when I asked his name... it was Dr Abkin... the very Surgeon who my friends had referred me to.

I told him my little story and he laughed and said Things Do Happen for a Reason! I felt so comfortable in our short conversation he told me not to worry he would have someone from his office that actually HAD the SURGERY would call me to answer any questions I had.

I'm not nervous anymore... now i'm actually excited as I'm on my way to getting Insurance Approval and having my Surgery.

I meet Dr.Abkin many years ago through a Dr. that I worked for in the morristown area, my first impression of Dr.Abkin was wonderful, he was very professional, polite and just spoke highly of his work. His first impression stuck with me years after i stopped working for that Dr. When I decided that I was going to go for weight loss surgery, I went to other seminars with different doctors, but just did not feel a good vibe. So time went on and I came across Dr.Abkin's name and rembered how much a wonderfiul Dr he is and I googled his name and found his office. I was happy that I was able to find him....I went to one of his seminars and had a very good feeling about him and his practice. I scheduled my consult with him and have been with his office ever since...I would not go to any other Dr. Dr.Abkin makes you feel so at ease with what goes along with weight loss surgery. HE explains everything to you in detail, from before surgery to after surgery and then you journey.My impression about Dr.Abkins just gets better. Just a wonderful Dr. to deal with when it comes to your health and life.
His office staff helps make the process alot easy.. They go through it with you from start to finish. Messages get to the right people and are always returned in a timley fashion.
After surgery in your follow up he talks about the healing process and also what comes along with weight loss surgery. He takes time to answer all you questions and explains everything in good detail. He addresess the risks of surgery to cover all absects of it. I would rate Dr Abkin on a very high level. He is a wonderful Dr., he takes his job to another level and takes your life in his hands. I am completley honored to have him as my surgeon and feel so at ease with my journey to weight loss and my decesion of having him as my Doctor. He has great bed side manner and wonderful surgical competence.

Thank You Dr. Abkin! Every Year I say I'll lose weight... but this year I decided IT's TIME TO ACTUALLY DO IT! I made a promise to myself and was in your first seminar of the New Year! I was referred to Dr. Abkin by a friend for my father. Weight loss surgery never crossed my mind. It was my father I was most concerned about. He had many health problems and he had tried everything. In August of 2011, Dr. Abkin allowed my father to celebrate his "rebirth!" I have seen all of my father's health problems fade away (high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea and much more). He is a changed man, who exercises on a regular basis and has his life back.

As he began his weight loss, I thought..." maybe I should research this for myself." At the age of 33, I was beginning to experience similar health problems. I wanted to be around for my 3 children, as well as lead a healthier life. My father was my inspiration. In December of 2011 I had gastric bypass and celebrated my rebirthday! To date I have lost 30 pounds and I feel FABULOUS! My helth issues have gone away, I exercise regularly and have so much more energy. Dr. Abkin gave me a second chance.

Dr. Abkin has wonderful bedside manners, and he put me at ease from the very beginning. He answered all of my questions, no matter how silly they sounded. I never felt rushed during my appointments. Dr. Abkin is very encouraging and genuinely cares for ALL his patients! I have him to thank for my new beginning!

My surgery (roux-en-y sic) was performed in June 1999 and within 14 weeks I lost 105 lbs. In the intervening years I only gained back 8 lbs and I will be 69 in a few weeks. While bariatric surgery may not be the answer for all people, in my particular case I view it as a lifesaver. I no longer need the C-PAP for sleep apnea and all my other medications have been reduced subsequent to the surgery and following weight loss.

I had my gastric bypass in 2002 and on October 17 I had to have a revision. Dr. Abkin was there to help me.
My first impression of him was great. He was kind and very understanding.
His office staff if very professional and friendly.
I rate Dr. Abkin a ten.
His bedside manner and surgical competence is way above average.
Just know that he and his staff are there for you every step of your journey.
