I have not met him yet, but have received an information packet from his office.

He was a very calm and easy going person to talk to. I just wish there were more time to talk but there are so many waiting to get in that I understand.

My impression has remained the same on each visit. I tell him everytime I go in that he reminds me of John Belushi. He just smiles and says ..."I've heard that one several times." :)

I really think Dr. Allen is a very giving man. I know he keeps grueling surgery hours because he has such a heart for us who suffer from obesity. I can only imagine the stress he is under. I made my first appointment in March of 2002 and could not get in until September 2002. The insurance company is processing my appeal now and hopefully I can get in just under the "year of waiting wire."

I am a total believer in good bedside manner. But sometimes that's hard to find when searching for competence, which is foremost with me.

Blessings to all who are in waiting, hoping or recovering. I know it's rough.

Doctor Jeffery Allen is a very competent surgeon. He has always answered all my questions. Although he is a very busy guy with a lot of appointments schedueled daily he has never made me feel like I am being herded through the system. The office staff is a bit over worked due to the high demand for the lap-band proceedure so sometimes it takes a few followup calls where any paperwork is concerned but I had no major problems with any of the staff at all. He informed me of all of the risks of surgery in depth so I would completely understand everything that could possibly happen and stressed the inportance of exercising and eating right along with the surgery. I give him an overall rating of 10. I am glad that I chose him to do this proceedure!

I have an initial consultation date of December 20th 2002. I have not yet met Dr. Allen. I am hoping things go well.

December 14th, 2002 less than one week from my initial consultation date I get a letter from the office of Dr. Allen, they cancelled my appointment with no further notice. I don't know what is going on, and can't get ahold of anyone in the office until Monday. What is this? I wait almost a year then they do this less than a week away? They sure know how to kill someone.

I made it for my initial consult with Dr. Allen. My first opinion of him was good. I had to wait a while in the office until he came in. I had a lot of time to think. My appointment was for 11:30 on the 27th, and I was called back to the room right on time. I was back there in room #1 at 11:30. I sat there and waited until 12:45 until Dr. Allen came in (he was out to lunch I presume). He is a very polite man, great eye contact, also good looking. He informed me of the procedures and ask me if I knew anything about them. Of course I did. I have researched this for a long time. I told him which procedure I am interested in "The Laproscopic Gastric Banding" I am pretty sure he was please with my choice. I have to call next week for my second appointment. I hope this goes fast. I have to see a Nutritionist before I go back for my second appointment, but I will get that done the first of next week so I can get this rolling. I want it done! Yesterday!!! I am very anxious to have this over with. They asked me if I had ever seen videos on the procedures, I have. I didn't have to watch them on the 27th (Thank God) I had been there long enough. We left the office and straight back on 65 on the way home. I have a really good feeling about this surgeon.

I've only met with him twice and the second time he was rushing out the door to give a speech. He comes across as competent. Unfortunately, the one initial appt. I had with him was to discuss the lapband. As it turns out, my insurance won't cover it so I'm having the lab RNY and we didn't really cover it in our talk. I asked the office staff if I would see him again before surgery (my last visit was 4/12 and my surgery is 9/16) and they said no.

His office staff seems competent and friendly, but the insurance person is definitely overworked and takes FOREVER to call you back.

Dr. Allen addressed the risks of sugery in plain language and overall I would rate him as good.

An addendum to my comments above. I called his office the week before my surgery because I was very nervous and had some questions. They scheduled an appointment for me with him the very next day and he sat and answered every single one of my questions. He is GREAT!

Dr. Allen at first blush seemed too serious. I felt nervous meeting him and talking with him, however, that was short lived. On the day of my surgery everything was right on time, the nursing staff at Norton's were superb. After the surgery, which was performed around 9am, Dr.Allen came to see me four times that afternoon and evening. Even tho, I was groggy and not fully awake, he would shake my toes and ask how I was doing. That was so impressive to me. He came in every morning for 4 days, talked with my husband and me, he was relaxed and appeared to be genuine in his concern for me.
So far my follow up care has been very good. Dr. Allen has been supportive and sits down and talks with you, not at you. I feel blessed to have found Dr. Allen.
The one area that I felt was upsetting to me was the fact that it took 5 months to get paperwork handled. Someone dropped the ball. I called to check on where we were in the process, the nurse checked and said the paperwork had not been faxed yetto the insurance company. This was very diappointing to me. However, that glitch is the only negative thing to happen throughout the whole thing.

Dr. Allen is direct and very clear about the procedure. His staff is very nice, however I ran into voicemail alot with the insurance person, but she would always return my calls.

I have nothing but good things to say about Doctor Jeffrey Allen. He has always taken the time to talk to me and answer any questions that I might have. He is open about the risks involved and is so well trained in his field. I feel without a doubt that I have had the most qualified surgeon in Kentucky perform my surgery, he is the best in my opinion.
