University Surgical Associates Bariatric Center
Dr. Allen was very personable. I am a nurse and have taken care of his patients, so I was aware of his skill and competence. His office staff was very friendly and helpful. He was very clear about the risk of the surgery on both pre-op visits. I was also shown a film on the adjustable gastric band that outlined the operation and risks. I am two weeks post-op and have no complaints. My recovery time was very fast and I am having no side effects.
My first impression of Dr. Allen was great. I immediately knew that he was the one who I could trust to do my surgery. He has been very supportive, and up front about what to expect. I ran a slight fever one day 2, so my husband called his service. He called us back in less than 5 minutes, then he called from his cell phone the next afternoon on his way home to see how I was feeling. HIs support staff has been wonderful too. The girls in the office, the dietician, and the hospital staff actually made this an enjoyable experience.
Dr. Allen is very specific about his aftercare specifications, and he is the kind of doctor that will make sure you follow up.
He basically has said that if ever I need anything, just call. He did require a pre op psyc consult as well as a pre op nutritional consult. Both people I was referred to were very kind and welcomed me to come back post op to see how things were going.
I was told every risk multiple times before I decided to have the surgery. And he made sure to answer all of my questions, no matter how trivial.
I would give Dr.Allen on a scale of 1 to 10
a definite 10! Sweet bedside manner, very caring- he even let me pick the music in the operating room. Excellent surgeon! I could not be more pleased with my choice.
I haven't met him yet, but I have talked to several staff members concerning insurance issues and such and they have been very helpful, and I'm not actually scheduled for my initial consult yet.
Intial consultation scheduled for 9/21/01...will update then!

Dr. Allen's staff was great, all very nice and helpful. Dr. Allen seemed like a really nice man. Unfortunately I went completely unprepared...forgot my list of questions and was in a slight daze, so I don't have an informed opinion yet. I am proceding as if he is my surgeon, and will be more thorough when I visit him again after the tests/evaluations I have to go to.

I saw Dr. Allen again on the 9th. I went in a little more prepared...but not much. I forgot my list of questions again, but I managed to jot some down before he got in the room.
My impression remains the same...it is a good one. The office staff is nice. I haven't had to wait way past my appointment time to see the Dr.
The thing I liked least about the Dr. was his reaction to my question about how many of these surgeries he's performed...he seemed a little offended/defensive. Maybe I was just paranoid about asking, and my perception was off, but it seemed like he thought I didn't have the right to ask something like that. Like I said though...my perception could have been off.
In any event, it doesn't change the fact that I want him to do my surgery. I feel comfortable with him, and I would say overall he rates highly in both competence and bedside manner.
I had heard good things about Dr. Allen from my PCP. He teaches at University Hospital in Louisville and is the only one here who does lap procedures. I also correspond with a patient of his in Tennessee who came to Ky so she could have him do the adj gastric band procedure. She loves it and has lost 50 lbs in 5 months with only one fill. He's young (looks just like my son), very laid back, comes across as quite confident which I like. I know many nurses who also attest to his reputation and competency. He says I will have to see him the rest of my life for follow-up. He was very up front about the risks. I can tell he really believes in the adjustable gastric band as the WLS of the future. As far as rating him - he's up there.
I just knew my surgeon was the one for me instantly. He is sosososo very nice and understanding and very professional. I would recommend him to everyone who is in need of surgery!!!!!! His office staff is also very nice.....I couldnt be more pleased!!!!
I have absolutly NOTHING NEGATIVE to say about Dr.Jeffery Allen or his office staff.
I consider myself very lucky to have him/them.
Dr Allen was very kind and business like. His bedside manner is excellent. He explained all the risks that was scary
My second visit made me like him even more. He told me about laparoscopic surgery and the possibility that it may have to be open and old fashioned
The staff was adequate. I had to get my own insurance approval by being the squeaky wheel.
The best thing about Dr Allen is his sense of humor and compassion (as well as his ability to do laparoscopic operations
He really doesn't have a bad side. He doesn't have the fat fair information sessions where everyone is herded in an auditorium
I am so happy I went to him and got this done laparoscope
Dr Allen seems really nice and laid back. He did not make me feel uncomfortable. He did explain the risks of this surgery and that is scary. I am going to Dr. Allen because I really want to have this surgery done laproscopically. He scared me when he said that he would possibly have to open me up in the middle of surgery. His office staff is really cool and they answered a lot of the questions I have. He is also now offering the lab band investigatively for selected patients.
I've only met Dr. Allen once, but it was enough. He polite and very infomative. He seems compasionate. I'm looking forward to him doing my surgery. His staff is also very friendly. After this second meeting, and everything went smoothly, and effiently; i am very comfortable with Dr. Allen. The only real problem I have had so far is the staff. Getting my insuance appoval packet faxed off to Tricare is proving to be a chore. I'll write more when i know more.
Dr. Allen did a great job. My first impression of him was a great one and it only got better after that. His staff was busy but professional.
He did a thorough job describing the risks of surgery and really scared me. Fortunately all the risks did not happen. None of them did. He did the laser surgery with no big cuts
I have already lost 47lbs and will keep you posted on more.
I am glad I made the trip to Louisville to see a real expert
I liked Dr Allen. He seemed very nice. I have only had 1 visit with him right now. I will let you know more after my next visit in about 2 weeks
Only met on nurse, she was ok wasnt real talkitive. Ask her what she thought about Dr. Allen and she said she liked him
He went over the surgery and risks some after care items. I need to met with him again to go over any questions I have. Before I found this website, I had no idea what questions I had He as not real helpful there
