UMass Memorial Medical Center Bariatric Center
I met with Dr. Kelly and my first impression of him was , wow here is a smart man! He is a great listener, patient and took the time to really discuss my surgery, answer questions and make me feel good about having him as a Surgeon.
Dr. Kelly is one of the most skilled Surgeons in MASSACHSUETTS when it comes to do laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery. He was trained by Dr. Litwin, Head Of Surgery for UMASS and Litwin is a PRO....no one better than him when it comes to LAPRASCOPIC SURGERY.Litwin chooses not to do Gastric Bypass Surgery.
The program at UMASS has grown significantly over the past two years so the service and the process for getting approved for surgery seems to be much smoother and faster.
Surgical competence AND bedside manner are critical to me. If I cannot communicate with you , you could be the BEST SURGEON in the world, but if I cant reach you on my level and tell you how I feel then your skills wont do me a damn bit of good. Feel my pain? Know me as a person, Dr. Kelly has that kind of greatness about him!
I had a good impression of Dr. Kelly from the orientation groups I attended at UMass before actually beginning the program. He's the head surgeon at the weight center there, and he trained the two other surgeons. He was also recently part of an expert panel on WLS that was put together by the Department of Public Health to study WLS in MA and to put together a "best practices" program for WLS programs. UMass already followed that program. I met with Dr. Kelly on 2/3 for my surgical consult, and he was kind, patient and has an excellent sense of humor. He also strikes me as extremely competent. I waited a bit longer for my surgery so I could have him. I have every expectation of having a safe and successful surgery, and I have great faith in Dr. Kelly's abilities as a surgeon.
Well he looks very young. He is very nice but talks really fast. The office staff rocks they are all very kind.He is very involved with the planning and keeping you informed of risks and possible complications.I like him very much and he seems to have a great bedside manner as well as competancy surgically doing 800 surgeries himself.
The only thing that bothered me about him was his speed of seeing you. he was always late and then he would spend time with you but he seemed fairly rushed because he was always running behind.
HE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND SUPPORTIVE. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIM, HE MADE HIMSELF AVAILABLE FOR ANY QUESTIONS MY FAMILY OR MYSELF MAY HAVE HAD. WHILE BOTH HIM AND HIS PROFESSIONAL STAFF MADE EVERY EFFORT TO PUT TO REST ANY FEARS OR CONCERND WE HAD.
THERE WAS FOLLOW UP CLASSES FOR PEOPLE 6 MONTHS OR OVER WICH WAS ALSO VERY INFORMATIVE, ALSO THERE WAS FOLLOW UP WITH DIETITIAN THREE WEEKS AFTER THE SURGURY WTIH MORE OFFERED IF YOU FELT YOU NEEDED IT. HE EXPLAINED NOT ONLY THE SURGERY BUT ALL OF THE POSSIBLE RISKS INVOLVED. HE ASSURED ME THAT THE RISKS WERE A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF OVERALL SURGERIES DONE. BOTH BED SIDE MANNER AND SURGICAL SKILLS WERE GREAT.
My first impression of Dr. Perugini was he was very professional and knowledgeable. My impression of him hasn't changed one bit. His office staff was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. He addressed every issue and was very thurough in making sure all my questions were answered. I'd rate him very high overall. He seemed very knowledgeable and willing to discuss everything with you. I believe both surgical competence and bedside manner are very important.
My opinion of UMASS Medical and Dr. Kelly is respect for a program that follows all the steps an individual should journey for WLS.
Dr. Kelly presented himself as a sensitive, patient, and compassionate man. All my questions/concerns were answered, and even items I did not think of.
The team at UMASS is a fine tuned engine. Everyone is supportive and knowledgable.
I have no complaints about the team or Dr. Kelly.
He is a Laproscopic surgeon, head professor and head of department. Dr. Kelly and UMASS team emphasize care long term, and do have a structured aftercare program.
Dr.Kelly and all the people at The Weight Center (at UMass) have been wonderful. I have never been to a doctor's office before where EVERYONE is respectful and sincerely wants to help me with my weight.
My first impression of Dr Kelly was what a sweet man. He answered all my questions and was very compassionate to my mother which had some concerns. Dr Kelly has been wonderful. He came in everyday that I was in the hospital and checked in on me. I haven't actually been to his office yet, but I have talked to his staff on the phone, and they have been very helpful. I can't say enough about the care that I received for Dr. Kelly. He explained everything that I would be experiencing in detail. I would do the surgery all over again, if it was with Dr. Kelly.
My first impression of him was that he was awfully young. My age, or a bit older. I met with him 3 different times. The first time was to discuss if he would take me on as a no blood transfusion patient. He agreed. The second was to meet with him and discuss the surgery. The third was a quick check-in during the preadmissions testing. He was very nice. The office and staff are very nice. They have very large chairs there that are made for obese patients. They are set over to the side and blocked off a bit too so I didn't feel embarrassed or like I was being watched. They have a lot to get through at UMASS, but I heard that they have shortened the waiting time by adding more staff members. I love the program and all the people!
