UMass Memorial Medical Center Bariatric Center
Dr. Perugini is very professional and kind. When starting the journey, he takes the time to make sure you understand what is coming up, and what you will go through each step of the way. He also gave me very real expectations of future weight loss, and was supportive and encouraging each step of the way. Without Dr. Perugini as part of my team, I don't think I would have been as successful as I have been. Your team is a very important part of this journey and with him on board my team was A+ all the way!
At first he may seem a bit stiff if you don't know him, but he actually has a great manner and a good sense of humor. He places the priority on getting you every bit of information you may need at the time of your visit, leaving time for questions. A lot of doctors may be in the habit of socializing quite a bit with patients which is nice but often this can get you off track and you go home realizing you forgot to ask something important. With Dr. Perugini focusing so much on your concerns and the procedures ahead, steps before and after you really feel confident that all bases are covered. Its nice to feel safe when going into surgery as it can be so intimidating. Dr. Perugini is professionalism at its best, he gets the job done and he is there for you any time its needed. I had to reschedule my first surgery due to a cold, and he was super supportive and encouraging that we would get the job done. One month later I was happily, and safely sleeved.
God bless all those going forward with surgery, I hope you are fortunate enough to be in the skilled hands of Dr. Perugini!!
Dr Kelly and the entire weight loss team at UMASS are amazing! I have found them all to be extremely caring, helpful and knowledgable. I am currently working on setting up a support group in Leominster and Dr Kelly has personally helped me connect with the appropriate people at the Leominster hospital o we can have the meetings there. I cannot say enough about him and could not have done this without him!
So far, I've met Dr. Kelly twice. He seems like a very personable and nice man and very knowledgeable surgeon.
The first time I met him, I thought he was knowledgeable but no sense of humor. The sense of humor has increased in the few times I've seen him since then. I think Dr. Perugini is awesome and would recommend him to anyone else! He went over all of the risks beforehand and even drew pictures for me so I would have a better understanding. He never makes me feel like I'm asking a dumb question and goes in detail when answering my questions.
I can't say enough good things about the entire crew over at UMASS Weight Center. Everyone that I had to deal with through out this entire process was so knowledgable and thorough. I would highly recommend the UMASS weight loss program to anyone looking to have surgical intervention to improve their quality of life. My personal surgeon was Dr. John Kelly and I think he was the absolute best choice for me I would not change him for all the money in the world! Lets not forget his nurse practitioner Robin Mason who is just as stellar!
From the first support meeting I attended, I have been overly imptressed with the UMass Weight Center Staff. Very comfortable setting, paitents and providers alike are very knowledgable and supportive.
After filling out the initial questionare at an orientation meeting, I was contacted by Linda, she was able to assist me with getting a timely intake appointment and her help continued through out the pre-surgical skills classes and pre-surgical appointment with Dr. Kelly & Robin Mason,NP.
While meeting with Robin Mason, I was very impressed with her through explination of the proceedure, hospital stay & follow-up care. Dr. Kelly was also very pleasant and able to answer any questions my mother & I had.
Dr. Cohen made a very positive impression on me and I normally dislike doctors. Dr. Cohen was open, honest, and direct about the risks and the unknowns. He has a great sense of humor, he is highly intelligent but down-to-earth and humble, and he is the kind of person I would just like to hang with. (If he was my PCP, I would never miss a check-up!) He is a nice guy who genuinely cares about his patients and he seems to really love his job. And he did an excellent job on my laparoscopic VSG!
