Bariatric Center of Kansas City Bariatric Center
The doctor that I chose is Dr. Stanley Hoehn. Several friends and co-workers had referred me to him. I think that talked about how good looking he was just as much or more than they talked about what they thought of him as a doctor. Needless to say they had nothing but good things to say about him. I attended one of his seminars in December of '05.
My first impression of him was that he was very serious about his work, not to mention, he is very good looking. The first noteable impression I had of him was during my first visit with him. I can tend to read people by their eyes, and something in my heart told me that I was in good hands. I think what touched me most of all about him was a friend telling me that he prayed with her before surgery, which lead me to believe that he was a God fearing man who really cared.
Upon approval I decided that I would have the surgery, at which time I prayed over my decision and I knew I would be ok. I also read the online reviews of the Dr. which really made feel even better.
The office staff is awesome. I'm telling you the truth. If you're ever having an "ugly" day, just go in there and I promise you that your attitude/day will change. Everyone is friendly, curtious and kind. They all appear to love their jobs. In my opinion the demeanor of the office staff can be just as or more important than the the Dr.'s because you have more interaction with them.
Another thing that has impressed me in dealing with this entire staff is they don't have you sitting and waiting forever. You go to some doctor's offices and first off you sit and wait in the waiting room for 30 minutes even after arriving 20 minutes early. Then they take you back to one of the examination rooms and let you sit there another 15 minutes. That just ticks me off!
There is nothing that I didn't like about him or his office staff. I can tell future patients to rest assured. They have it all on the ball. I'm talking from a to z. From the time you submit those forms it seems as though you have their undivided attention. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd have to give Dr. Hoehn and his staff at least a 25.
My first impression of Dr. Hoehn is that he is quiet and kind. I feel he really cares about what he does and is a good honest surgeon. I like him more as time goes on.
His office staff is wonderful, Billi and Nola really work hard to make you comfortable and quickly addressed any questions or concerns that I have had.
I was a self pay patient, and the only negative thing that happened to me personally, was that I prepaid all my expenses. A month later I received a bill from the office visit, which Billie promptly took care of. After the surgery, I started getting bills from the hospital which Lynda McDonald took care of for me.
Another thing I really like with this office, is that they do a lot of prep work with you before the surgery, but the followup after surgery is wonderful. This office has support groups that meet monthly for both lapband and gastric bypass patients. I really enjoy that!
Dr. Hoehn took his time in discussing the risks of this surgery and the benefits with me. He made sure that I had all my questions answered before he left the room.
I would recommend Dr. Hoehn to anyone for surgical competence and bedside manner. I trusted him with my life, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I had heard bad things about Dr. Sabpathy from other patients so I went in to meeting him with that in mind. I do not understand why I had to do so many counceling sessions prior to surgery, I feel after surgery is when I am going to need him. It also felt odd that he was counceling me in diet, that is basically all we talked about. We also talked about eating behaviors and slightly touched on why I am obese.
I first met Dr. Hoehn at an informational seminar hosted by his office. He was very professional, very knowledgeable and very personable. He took the time to answer questions and carefully explained the process and the possible risks.
The staff at his office is awesome. They go above and beyond to help patients get approved for surgery and help make the process as simple as possible. They provide prospective patients with a detailed check list of what needs to be done and the information needed to get surgery approved.
At my first pre-op visit, he took all the time necessary to answer the questions I had brought with me. He has a great surgical record and a great bedside manner. I am very pleased with my choice of surgeons.
So far I would rate Dr. Hoehn and his staff a 10+
Even from the beginning at the Seminar I was comfortable talking with Dr. Hoehn. At my pre-op he took his time with me and answered all my questions. He seems to have a great bedside manner and never talked down to me.
Nola and Billie have always been very nice and helpful.
Aftercare of course is important, and I really didn't need it emphasized. He does have a year long aftercare program.
In my opinion Competence is MOST important! Bedside manner is important, but if you rely on that mainly... You could have the sweetest Doc in the world.. and he didn't remember anything from Med School!!!!
NOT a good thing!!
I will followup after surgery and aftercare starts! But right now I have no negative experiences with Dr Hoehn or his group.
I will update later after the surgery
I was very impressed with Dr. Hoehn's knowledge at the WLS I attended in May 2005. I have been very impressed with the enitre setup at SMMC. I had done a lot of research on WLS and even attended other seminars. I felt very comfortable meeting with him and the staff at SMMC. Everyone I have met with has been Awesome! The criteria a patient has to meet and testing you undergo is incredible. They really make sure you are on track mentally and physically! I am very satisified with my Surgeon selection!!
