Southwest Bariatric Surgeons PLLC Bariatric Center
I first met Dr. Marquez when she removed my gallbladder a few years ago. I didn't know she was doing WLS until I went to the seminar. I instantly knew she was going to be my surgeon. She's very knowledgeable and always has time for her patients. She has made me feel like I'm her concern and always calms me down and explains the questions I have. Her office staff is extremely friendly. I never feel like I can't call them and get the support I need. I only regret that Joy didn't stay with them but I truly understand. rnDr. Marquez has a very structured aftercare program and I am confident that her knowledge and skill I am good hands. Her bedside manner is awesome, too!
Dr Marquez was my surgeon in Oct 2005. She was great. I really liked her when I first met her in Feb 2005. I had some insurance complications - Aetna making me do a 3 month program with my internist - but then got the go-ahead for surgery. Dr Marquez is very caring and very easy to talk to. Her staff is nice. I really liked Jerry the nutritionist. He's very helpful and easy to talk to. He even wants to know how you are doing when you call in months later. It is almost 1 year since surgery (9/06) and I am so glad i used Dr. Marquez!
My surgeon was Dr. Steven Fass- I really like him- he was compassionate, caring, and always seemed to have the time to answer any and all questions I may have had. They have a very structured pre-op and post-op diet in place that's pretty easy to follow. I would rate him highly and recommend him to anyone I knew that was looking in to this surgery.
Dr. Fass is totally amazing. I first met him when I was looking for someone to revise a botched surgery. I had already seen countless others who couldn't or wouldn't help me for one reason or another. When he walked into the exam room, I knew he was different. He was so kind and attentive on top of being incredibly surgically competent and overall brilliant. He literally saved my life. After a year and a half of great health and yah a little weight gain, Dr. Fass put the lap band on me and I have had NO PROBLEMS. I had been nervous to have it adjusted after my ordeal with the previous surgery, and Dr. Fass kindly and patiently reassured me and I had it adjusted......I was worried for NOTHING!!!! It is great. Dr. Fass is a brilliant surgeon and i don't know how he does it but after the surgery, I had NO bruising and very minimal pain. I would recommend him to anyone who is seeking a surgeon. I'm convinced he can do no wrong ;)
I really liked Dr. Marquez from our first meeting and am continually impressed with her. She's got a great bedside manner and very easy to talk to.
Her office staff is pretty good. Jerry is the nutritionist and is always available when I have questions. Joy is the nurse that I usually see when I'm there and she's great. She taught me how to do my B12 injections and has been great to work with. The only person I have issue with is Jenna. Jenna is the patient advocate, and I'm sure her job is not a fun one - dealing with all us anxious pre-ops and our insurance companies while trying to make sure the practice gets the operating income they need, but I found her to be unresponsive at times. She insisted that my insurance wasn't going to cover my surgery even after I received my approval letter and was a lot slower than I would have hoped in submitting all of my paperwork for approval. Because she didn't expect UHC to actually pay for my surgery, I had to put down a deposit of $2,000 for my surgery to cover whatever UHC didn't. The best part of that is I received a refund of $1,927 a few weeks ago.
Dr. Marquez places a great emphasis on after care. Seton Hospital provides a support group and all are encouraged to attend.
All risks were addressed up front with both myself and my husband.
I would rate Dr. Marquez a 10. I had no surgical or post-op complications and found her bedside manner to be excellent.
Dr. Marquez not only made me feel less nervous about my surgery but she made me feel safe. She is a very freindly and knowledgable Dr in her field. When my husband and I first met her I was so realived because she just reaches out to her patients and lets you know she does understand not only what the patient is going through but also what the family is going through. I honestly could not have asked for a better surgeon. I will definatly update further after my surgery.
I met with Dr. Faulkenberry on Feb. 14, 2006 for my first consultation. He is older and seems very wise. He seems to have the patience of Job. Even though he was running late, he took the time to answer all 16 questions that I had prepared ahead of time. He also has a great sense of humor and is very personable. He explained the surgery, and asked me all sorts of questions concerning my prior health. The only negative thing that I can say is that Dr. Faulkenbery has two practices and his time is very limited. He is only at the Bariatric clinic one day a week, so his availability is limited. I am looking forward to having Dr. Faulkenberry as my wls surgeon. The clinic he is in is very organized...they have a whole schedule of people and tests that you will need ahead of your surgery. They even put through for your pre-approval for the surgery. They also have a support group that meets in Austin. The girls in the front office are always very cheeful and supportive also.r

Dr. Faulkenberry was a very kind and caring doctor. I really liked him immediately.
His staff is very helpful and so nice...I dont know how Jenna does all she does and stays so sweet. The doctor took his time and discussed the importance of commitment to aftercare. Overall he was one of the nicest doctors I have ever met. I have every confidence in him.
