At first I thought Dr. Rumsey didn't have a very good bedside manner. It must have just been a busy day for him. All my other encounters with him have been very warm and fuzzy. He is a wonderful Dr. and caring person. My experience with his office staff was all positive. They all seem very nice, friendly and helpful. I think Pacific Bariatrics has a great program. They have a seminar they hold each month so new patients can sit in and ask questions. There are always post-op patients there to tell their stories. I think they are very thorough in their presentation and the information they give. I have dealt with three of the Drs. in the PB office and all are wonderful.

I was given an appointment with Dr Zorn because he is the one of two Dr.s at Pacific Bariatric that does the Lap RNY. I picked him and I think that the angels were watching over me because it turns out he is an expert in the procedure with a wonderful reputation. I've met so many people after my appt. was set up that had very encouraging things to say about him, even colleauges sing his praises. He is very professional and answered any questions I had, but that was it, he was friendly but you didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling when you talked to him. He's a brillant surgeon, but I did not even see him until the day after my surgery so I didn't know his personalilty that well. Since I traveled so far to get the surgery they have after care appts. in my area, they actually fly in to see their patients once a month.I feel surgical competence is more important, most geniuses aren't very outgoing.

My first impression of Dr. Rumsey was that he was very friendly and seemed to be a nice man. My impression of him didn't change. I actually was feeling quite comfortable with him. His staff was really friendly and made me feel comfortable from the time I got there until I left. He's a very caring doctor and will listen to all your concerns. At first I was scared when he said he I had to lose 40 pounds before surgery but he explained why and I told him I don't have a problem with losing it just keeping it off. He said they'd haver surgery before I could gain it back. We didn't talk much about aftecare. He was very thorough with the risks of surgery and how it would work. I really liked him and have all the confidence in allowing him to do the procedure. All surgical competence, bedside manner should be very important. You should feel comfortable with your doctor whos performing this procedure.

he was down to earth. It got stronger I became more relaxed. They are really helpful. His sense of humor was a little dry.He doesn't seem get excited about anything,he is soft spoken. That is the one thing that was talked about before the surgery it was high on the list.Yes it is set-up by weeks on what you can have and can't have,as far as food, exercise and meds.He just came out an told me what could happen and what could'nt straight out and thats what I liked wright to the point. On a scale of 0-10 Iwould give him a 10.I would have to say both are great

I will not meet him until October
I never met Dr. Gracia since my consultation date was canceled. But I met Dr. Rumsey on December 27, 2002. My first impression of him was that he was nice. He saw my husband and I together. He seemed concerned that we understood all of the changes that would be taking place over the next couple of months while we await our surgery. He answered all of our questions, as we did his. He has a great bedside manner, so far.
The office staff for Dr. Rumsey were great. One of the receptionists had the surgery herself and shared some of her experience with us. So far there isn't anything I do not like about him.
The one thing that I liked that least was the fact that he could not tell me what my surgery date would be. I was under the impression that we would know right away.
He has a very structured precare and aftercare. We were given booklets with thorough information on both.
He was quite honest about the risks and benefits of the surgery. Informed us of the most common complications and mortality rate.
On a scale from 1 to 10 I would rate him an 8 at this time. I will tell you more after the surgery.
Of course, the most important is his surgical competence, which I never doubted after researching him on the internet, but it is nice that he also has a wonderful bedside manner.

Dr. Rumsey is fantastic...I wish I lived closer to San Diego, but have moved to Colorado and lost touch with his office.

I had already spoken to several other people who had him as their surgeon. I knew I didn't feel comfortable with Dr. Mary Murphy and had heard that Dr. Zorn was really nice.
I wanted to go to him so that I could have the surgery laparoscopic and he was one of the 2 that do the surgery that way. I had to wait longer for the surgery date, but it was worth it.

When I met Dr. Zorn, he was very nice. He seemed very sincere, attentive and answered all my questions. When I asked about the laparoscopic surgery, he couldn't promise anything since I had had 2 cesareans, but that he would try. I didn't quite "buy" his reasoning that the fat tends to mass around scar tissue, but I knew that no matter what there were no guarantees that they would be able to do it laparoscopically.

Everyone at the hospital was great (except the person who kept trying to put my IV in and kept missing! I had HUGE bruises from that!) and helped get you motivated to get up and move - very important after surgery!
The only problem I had was the morphine in my IV was giving me an awful headache. I found this out from another patient [a RN] who was in at the same time that I was. As soon as I stopped pushing the stupid little button, the headache started subsiding. Luckily, the pain was minimal.

Dr. Zorn definitely stressed the importance of my following up and doing what I need to do in order to get the most out of the surgery and in order to have the least amount of problems.

There is no real "structured" aftercare program although they want you to join a gym and WALK, WALK, WALK!

I would rate him [on a scale of 1-10] as a 9. Everyone I know that has had him as their surgeon have had little or no complications!
