Pacific Bariatric Surgical Medical Group, Inc. Bariatric Center
I met Dr. Zorn on 8-04-05 at my pre-op consultations. He was very warm, kind, and easy to talk to. I feel confident that he is a skilled surgeon, and am very glad I chose him as the person to do my surgery. After my visit with him, he was recommended by two other surgeons from another Bariatric group here locally. I was especially impressed with how cautious he seems to be, which I believe can be a good trait in a surgeon. He presented all the risks of the surgery to me in a logical way, but with an overtone of reassurance that makes you feel like although the worst could happen, you are in GOOD hands with him. He stressed that I had to do my part as well and prepare my body for surgery, as well as follow the program after surgery. I will reserve my final rating until after my surgery, but right now, I rate him as a 9 out of 10. I think you should be able to have both surgical competence (he is the chief surgeon at Mercy) AND a patient-friendly bedside manner, and he seems to have both.
**Post-op--I still feel good about Dr. Zorn. The worst DID happen, and he was there for me each and every day, and continued to follow-up with me on a very frequent basis. I recommend him to friends all the time. He's really great!
Dr. Zorn is the absolute best! My surgery did not go as planned... but he was there every single day, sometimes twice a day, checking on me. He is like your favorite uncle. His easy manner is so refreshing. He calls me "the Vixter" --I don't know why. lol But he obviously knows what he's doing and what he's talking about. My husband really appreciated how he handled everything with my surgery. It wasn't easy, but Dr. Zorn made things much easier, and helped us relax about what was going on. I completely trust his judgement and ability!! But remember, these are just my opinions based on my own, personal experiences with Dr. Zorn.
Dr. Zorn entered our (me and hubby, who is the patient) lifes and saved the day. See profile for details. Our first impression, was a man who seemed approachable, honest, direct, and seemed to really understand the difficulty involved with losing weight for a very obese, high risk person. His office staff, specifically, Mylah is wonderful and patient. Cannot say enough positive about her. I would recommend patients ask questions, no matter how silly they may seem. He will explain things to you and not simply give you the bottom line answer. Which I really appreciate...we like the info, it made us both feel more comfortable and confident in his ability. Dr. Zorn, strongly emphasized aftercare, and was a bit conservative in his aftercare suggestions, which is fantastic. He cares. He is simply great and we both highly recommend him. He is sensitive and understanding, great bedside manner. If you have any questions please email me. I can't really say anything negative about him...maybe later ;-)
My first impression of Dr. Rumsey was great. I was waiting for him in an exam room when I heard him talking to another patient in the hallway. She was wanting to have surgery but had some issues she needed to deal with first. He was quite matter of fact when he told her that the choice was hers, she could deal with her issues and have surgery, or not deal with them and not have surgery. My impression of him over time stayed the same. He was quite straight forward, which I appreciate in a physician. The office staff at Pacific Bariatric in San Diego is wonderful. Many of the staff have had surgery themselves, which is helpful to a patient. He addressed the risks of surgery very honestly, as well as the risks of NOT having surgery. Overall I would rate him as a great surgeon for this type of procedure. I think part of the reason I had a good experience with him is that I did what I was supposed to do as well. I saw him get a little rough with a woman with whom I shared a room at the hospital, but she was refusing to try to get up and walk after surgery and he was quite plain with her that she was not going to recover as well as I was doing if she did not try to do her part. The only problem I had at all with him was that other people who had surgery the same date as me got out of the hospital early in the morning on their departure date, and I was still there at 2:00 in the afternoon because he had not come to the hospital yet to release his patients. There were people in the hospital with me who were already home by the time I even saw him. Other than that, my experience was great. I think the nursing staff at Mercy Scripps were the best. They were so supportive and encouraging, which made the entire experience so much easier.
Dr Zorn is an excellent surgeon, has a great "bedside" manner, a great sense of humor, and is a very caring person. I ighly recommend him. His office staff is efficient and friendly.
The Pacific Bariatric Medical Surgical Group in San Diego, have a great and comprehensive program. And I am very grateful.
My surgeon was absolutely the best. My first impression of him was that he was a very intelligent, personable man. He was insistent that I lose weight and begin exercise and protein shakes before surgery, but I know that is because he wants me to be in the best condition possible for surgery. I had open RNY and he did a wonderful job. I had no complications and my incision is beautiful. And he is not stingy with pain medicine -- I had a morphine PCA and Toradol around the clock. My pain level was never >3 during my hospital stay. I used liquid Vicodin for 1 day after discharge and then did not need anything else (and I have a VERY low pain tolerance). Dr. Rumsey listened to my concerns, he realizes that I know my body better than anyone. I was so well prepared for this surgery. I knew exactly what would happen, what was expected of me, what things to watch for and what to expect in my care. We had a 4 hr pre-op teaching class. We talked to someone from the support group who was post op, an anesthesiologist, a nurse who fitted us for abdominal binders and answered questions about the hospital and nursing care, an RT who taught us how to use our incentive spirometers, a social worker and a nutritionist. Dr. Rumsey's group has such a thorough and organized program. I felt safe, prepared and totally supported. I had some pain behind my sternum 1 1/2 weeks out and the surgeon on call was so available for me, and for the ER dr. Dr. Rumsey's surgical competence and bedside manner and both excellent. I am getting top notch care and I am so thankful!!
