Obesity Surgery Center Bariatric Center
I met with him for the first time on 5/11/2000. He seemed very caring and very knowledgeable about all aspects of the procedure and explained everything in great detail...He was quick to point out important aftercare is and discussed his support group, the dietician and all the tests he planned to run before surgery. He answered all my questions in a kind and gentle manner and was very positive about the outcome and success of the surgery.
He is a very Kind and Caring Surgeon with a true skill. He understands obese people, and our concerns, and does excellent work.
His office staff(Woodbridge) Shannon and Vicki are great too!
"The following comments are just my personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am not making any statements about what other people may experience":
At first I had a very good impression of Dr. Anez and his staff. They were very nice and supportive. Over time though(2yrs), everything started to go bad. My post-op weight loss was only about 30lbs total. Finally, after 12 months of waiting & begging for a revision he very pleasantly and compassionately agreed to help me. But, when my insurance company requested further information, Dr. Anez's staff refused to respond to their request. When I insisted they respond to the insurance, I received a call from his staff the next day telling me that Dr.Anez thinks I should get a second opinion and recommended Dr. Roll. When Dr. Roll returned my call, he was very nasty, unprofessional, and flat out rude!!!! He told me right over the phone that he will not perform the surgery on me and that he didn't have to explain why. He told me I was probably overeating to the point of throwing & that was why I was gaining weight. (Note: I have never eaten to the point of throwing up!!) I asked him how could he possibly diagnose me over the phone. Then he said he could see me if I wanted to but he will definately not do a revision on me. "Even if I go up to 3001bs?" I asked him, crying and frustrated, and he flat out said no. My experience with both Dr. Anez and Dr. Roll has been very negative, accusatory, frustrating, slow, unsupportive, and painful . Of course all this is just bits and pieces of the whole story. Many other things happened with Dr. Anez's office; too many to list.
My pouch is streched, I weigh more now then I did when I had the original surgery, and they both adamantly refuse to do a revision.
If the surgery doesn't work, it's your fault!! If it does work, it's their miracle!!
I'm sure they are good surgeons, but they were not very supportive or compassionate in my case.
Conclusion: I would travel to another COUNTRY(!), before I step into Dr. Anez's or Dr. Roll's office again.
NOTE: I can't remember the nutritionist's name, but she was the only person who seemed to care.
6-13-00 My first impression about Dr. Anez is that he is a smart, caring and exceptional Surgeron. He sat they and let me ask him all sorts of questions. Really made me feel comfortable and happy about my decision.
Dr. Anez's office staff is wonderful. They are very caring and interested in your issues. Also, they get just as happy as you do when you find out you were approved. :)
Dr. Anez has a 'strict' aftercare program. You have to met with his nutrictnist Sally (haven't met yet) and see him quite often from what I'm told.
Dr. Anez does go over the risks of surgery and will answer any questions you have about the surgery.
I would give Dr. Anez a 10!!
7-19-00 SURGERY DAY. Very Scared!!!!
7-28-00 Staple removal... - 29 lbs. Woo Hoo!
Dr. Anez comes highly recommended by several people that I know and know of including another doctor at Fair Oaks Hospital. He is a very quiet and straightforward man, but also very nice. I am still waiting for my approval -- this Friday will be 2 weeks. I am on pins and needles waiting...
He is wonderful! He is very imformative and answered all my questions
I grew to trust him more
Greeeeeeeeat!!
His office was crowded
To trust him and not to be scared to ask any questions

on a scale from 1-10 a 10
both were great...surgical better
Dr. Anez is a very quiet man. My initial impression has not changed. From all of the profiles that I have read that pertain to him alone convinces me that he is a capable doctor. I must admit the first time I met him, I was a little taken back by his coldness (so I thought). But the problem was not with him, it was with me because I am a warm and very open person, sometimes I expect everyone to be that way as well. I am pleased with the attention that I have received from Dr. Anez as well as with his staff. Sally, the nutritionist, is a wonderful woman. She is down to earth and understands what we go through. She does not belittle nor does she trivialize my questions.
I met with Dr. Anez for the inital consult on March 21, 00.
I found him quiet but competent.
His staff in caring and quite funny.
The mood in the office was upbeat and still sensitive.
UPDATE: I saw Dr. Anez again on 6/9/00.
Once agin he was quiet but competent.
I went there with 28 questions to ask. He answered them all quickly and completely.
I will see him once more before my surgery date. 7/7/00
I found/find Dr. Anez to be a man of few words. Because I had researched my procedure, extensively, I had few questions. He explained the procedure in layman's terms which was very helpful.
Since I am still waiting for approval, I haven't had much interaction with Dr. Anez nor his staff. I will say his staff delayed in sending my paperwork off. I was glad I followed up within two days of my initial visit and followed up with them almost daily. I also requested they send me my own copy of the info sent to my insurance company. This proved beneficial since the ins claimed only 1 page of 6 was sent. I was able to fax the info to ins without playing phone tag with the office.
I attend the support groups and have heard nothing but rave reviews for Dr. Anez. compared to other surgeons, his pre and post care followup is AWESOME.
I truly look forward to him performing my surgery.
5/8/00 - My final appointment with Dr. Anez before surgery went very quickly. He just checked my abdomen, and that was about it. I asked him for my pain med prescription ahead of time so that I could fill it and not worry about it when I came home from the hospital.
4/5/00 - I had my 2nd appointment with Dr. Anez yesterday. It was pretty fast. I just had a few questions. The more I hear about Dr. Anez from other people, the more confidence I have in him. I did get very frustrated with the process of scheduling all of my pre-op tests. I felt very much in the middle between the surgeon's office and my HMO (Kaiser). After a week I got it straightened out but not after a lot of hassle and aggravation. (See more detailed comments under my insurance info.) I also attended my 2nd support group meeting 2 days ago, and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend them to anyone having or thinking of having WLS, as well as their supporting friends and family members.
3/28/00 - I met Dr. Anez for the first time today. I liked him very much and had a good impression of him and his staff (Margaret and Lorie). I had no complaints. He is a quiet, soft spoken man. In some cases people may perceive this as a lack of bedside manners, and I disagree. He just isn't the chatty type, and if you don't expect him to be, you won't be disappointed. Most of what he said to me today was information I have already learned on this web site (which is magnificent, by the way). There were no big surprises, and that was an indication that I had done my homework very well and thoroughly. I received 2 info booklets, and he went over the basics of the surgery, which actually didn't take very long. He talked about his requirements to see his nutritionist and attend support group meetings. He also discussed what appointments I will need to schedule after the surgery and down the road as a follow up. He then asked me if I had any questions, and I simply went down my list. He answered every question to my satisfaction and was very patient. At no time did he try to rush me. He was impressed with the fact that I had done my homework and came to the appointment well prepared. He also liked the fact that I had already been to a Staple Club meeting and to one of my nutritionist appointments. I have been gathering questions to ask for the past month, most of them came from reading question responses on the site. I organized the questions into pre-op, post op, diet, personal stuff I need to do, etc. With every appointment I can knock off items and add new ones. Having them written down is quite helpful, because unless you have a photographic memory, you will never remember them all and will always have the nagging feeling that you forgot to ask something. I keep a notebook with me at all times, and often jot things that quickly come to my head (and then just as quickly disappear). Helpful hint: Be nice to the office staff!!! Laurie and Margaret were great and extremely helpful and patient. Remember that they are the ones responsible for getting all of your paperwork together, and they are in the position of being your advocates. They deserve your respect. I would rate Dr. Anez and his office very highly, and I am thrilled that he is my surgeon.
I first met with Dr. Anez on 4/11/00. My initial impression is that he was very straight forward, not interested in a lot of small talk. He did have a unique sense of humor though. I really liked him. I wasn't looking for someone that "jip jip" (talk a lot or jabber on and on and on). If you are looking for that type of person Dr. Anez is your man. He came across very confident and knowlegeable. I learned right away that Dr. Anez is "no joke". He will not put up with excuses and is passionate about his work and making sure his patients follow the rules, so to speak.
As far as the office staff, they were very friendly and a lot of fun to talk too. Lori especially made me feel at ease and was very inviting. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. I was a little disappointed in how long it took to get my paperwork sent to the insurance company. I called two days after my initial visit and was told my paperwork was being sent that day. I called back the following tuesday and Lori was out. When I spoke with her on Thursday, she was sending it then. Basically, stay on top of the office staff. Other than that, all is really positive with Dr. Anez and his office staff.
