Midwest Institute of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Bariatric Center
I first learned of Dr. Glascock, by reading a advertisment to one of his seminars on his program. I think I fell in love with this man the first time he told me he could help. He gave me the hope I needed and had lost in the past. He had just started his office in Cedar Falls after returning from Pittsburg where he served on the board. He hand picked all of his staff and did a wonderful job since they are all so kind and helpful. From the dietian all the way threw to the hospital nurses. Lynn his nurse was wonderful and alway has a smile on her face when you go to the office, and they all ask how you are doing. Makes you feel special and they "do" care. When you see Dr Glascock, he will tell you that he will give you the tool you will need to loose weight but that you have to promise to give a 100% of yourself to make this life long change. You have to know what to expect and how to follow threw and that it is a life long change that you will have to do in order to have it work. He explained it to me as a business contract...we all have to give in order to acheive. The aftercare program is very structured and a great tool. My mother had her stomach stapled in 79 and was a totally different experience for her. She still is shaking her head at how well I am doing right now three weeks post op. I was told all the risk of the surgery and the after care in complete detail. After surgery the hospital staff and Dr Glascock were just wonderful. I was treated as a person and not just another bed number.
I first met Dr. Glascock in an information seminar the day before my consult. He was very pleasant and informative. He has a nice sense of humor and a drive for success in his patients.
After meeting with him during my consult he was much more serious and to the point. He made a pledge to me for excellent surgery and post op care and to be there for me in the years to come. He has a very strict regime in which you must follow, including 2 week clear liquid diet prior to surgery. He tells us that this is to shrink the liver and make your surgery easier.
I had to pledge to him to follow his instructions to the letter and commit to a life time of change. He wanted to know if I could do that..I said I am at my last hope........I CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!:) For those of you who are looking at him for your surgery.....I have a very good feeling about him...I trust what he says....that is something I have a hard time feeling with most doctors....and believe me I have seen plenty!
He talks directly to you and makes eye contact the whole time. I felt like he was trying to make sure what he was saying was sinking in!! He was very precise in what he had to say and never made me feel guilty or ashamed of why I was there.
He gave me plenty of time to ask questions and never hesitated with the answers.
Well, I had my first consultation with him. I had to wait two hours for him because he was on call that day and had an emergency. But, the two hours was worth the wait. At first I was really scaried and nervous. He was extremely nice and very informative. Office staff especially Lynn was great. She was so nice and kept checking on me while I was waiting. Dr. Glascock seemed very caring and concerned about your aftercare. He talked about the risks of the surgery and the different outcomes. Overall, I feel Dr.Glascock is a great doctor.
I liked him from the first contact I had with him. He seem vary knowledgeable and told you what he expects from you. His office staff was very nice and pleasant. Hopefully after doing 400+ laps and assisted with over 2000 I think he should be very good. my wife is a nurse and I think she felt comfortable with him. He is concerned about after care and that is a big part of his practice, I think. He told me that I was not a failure with diets, they just don't work for some people. I think he will do a fine job and be there for the patient if need be. Oh I think he rides a Harley so he can't be all bad.
I was impressed with Dr. Glascock's entire
office visit. The first thing you do is meet
with a dietician. She was great and very
helpful. They give you a 3 page post-op
diet for the first year. My brother had this surgery and NEVER met with a dietician.
Then you meet with the nurse and then the Dr.
He is very cooperative and makes you feel at
ease. Not as if you're some lazy bum who
just needs to push yourself away from the
table! He was very informative and answers
your questions. You also have to make a
pledge to him (and yourself) that you will
follow the things he says you must do to have
success. One was to excercise every day
( walking), to chew your food at least 25-30
times before swallowing, etc. He actually waited until I said
I would pledge before we moved on! I will be seeing him for the rest of my life.
He is new to Iowa but has performed this surgery in Ohio at least 400 times.
I look forward to having this and with working with Dr. Glascock and his staff. They are great too!
Dr.Glascock has a gentle manner he is straight forward with me and yet compassionate too. He is willing to listen to all my concerns and then wants the same respect from you to allow him to tell you about what he expects. He told me like it needed to be said. And we are going to get along fine. He can joke around and yet be serious too, without out being insulting.
His office staff are wonderful, just as easy going and willing to help as he is. And everyone there are so supportive that I was amazed. The nurse and supportive staff all were great, made everyone feel at ease right away.
This is a new program, we are told what we can expect as far as after care, and he also said that he wants us to be in the support group also afterwards.
Yes he addressed the risk and he answered all my questions either in group session, or at first office meeting.
Dr. Glascock is very good at what he does. I only wish the hospital he works for was a provider for my Insurance Co. We got a special ok for him to do my GB but they won't give that same ok for him to removed my gallbladder and since he was just in there and knows what he's up against with all the scar tissue from all my stomach surgery I would feel more comfortable for him to do my surgery. I have to go to IA City to see a surgeon in hopes of getting my gallbladder out and it will fix my pancreatitis I ended up with because no wants to touch me with my anatomy is changed. It took them 6 months to get my approval for the GB and I can't wait that long for the gallbladder and then I need to know that without the gallbladder with the horrible pain I went through with my pancreatitis - will it happen again without the gallbladder. That pain was worse than any of the pain caused by childbirth and I do not want to ever experience it again. Hope to hear from others that have gone through what I have.
