Midwest Institute of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Bariatric Center
My very first impression of Dr.Glascock at the seminar was that he was good-looking. Honestly, that was the first thing I noticed. Then it was that he was very informative and strict about his diet and excercise before and after surgery. Over time, my impression changed a little bit because I only ever saw him once before surgery for about 10 minutes and then never again. That kind of surprised me. He wasn't even the one to tell my family that I was OK after surgery, he sent the anesthesiologist to talk to my family. His staff is awesome though. I guess I would rather see his nurse's, Angie and Lynn, than him anyway. They are both very caring and knowledgable. Dr.Glascock is very big on aftercare. He said I would be seeing him for the rest of my life. I chose him because of his great track record and his caring manner.
I went to the seminar on the 15th and Dr. G has a sense of humor!! He seemed like he was very easy to get a long with...have my first appointment with Angela, his PA, on the 24th...will update all then.
Appointment went VERY well. Angela and Lois are phenominal!!!! They are so nice and they are trying to get this done very quickly for me as my insurance is an issue. I can't say enough good things about them. Rebecca, their insurance person, is outstanding! She is on top of every e-mail I send her. She truly is terrific!!!
I liked him alot and he was very friendly to me the entire time. The staff was very helpful and answered all of my questions. The only thing negative I could say about my doctor is that I only got to see him 2 times during this whole process. He emphasizes aftercare with intensity! If you aren't in this for the long run, then don't come to him.
He addressed all the risks with me throughly and discussed with me the option to change my mind too. I would rate him at a number 9 or 10 He was that good!
His bedside manner was perfect.
Dr. Matthew Glasscock is a very skilled, intense surgeon. Tall, lanky, with a direct manner, Dr. Glasscock will set you at ease with his frank talk and easygoing manner, but patient safety and care is up supreme importance to him and his staff, he is all business and very serious when it comes to patient care.
He operates out of a state of the art operating theater connected to Satori Hospital, Covenant Clinic health Systems in Waterloo, Iowa. His offices are on the first floor of the clinic entrance to Covenant Clinic, Suite 105.
As a future patient of Dr. Glasscock, you should be willing to be **VESTED** in the process. There will be hoops to jump through, insurance approval, pre op examinations, attendance which is mandatory, at a monthly seminar at least once, and completion of a 25 page application form.
His office DOES take Medicare and Medicaid, so if you have both and have been turned down elsewhere this is a excellent place to turn.
Dr Glasscock specializes in Roulin Y surgery done laproscopically. I was 640 pounds when I first saw Dr. Glasscock, and I had to reduce a little, I would up not doing what I had to do (losing enough to have it laproscopically) but Dr. Glasscock was able to do it laproscopically despite my failure to lose the pre surgery weight. Mine was an exception, most people dont start the process with an 82 BMI and 600+ pounds :P
His office staff is friendly, and very well trained. The best thing about Dr. Glasscock is that the intergration between him and Satori Hospital is near flawless. The aftercare in ICU, and later on the Medical Surgical Floor is excellent, the proper fluids and after care is first rate just exactly what Dr. Glasscock expects.
The bedside manner is excellent. I made a crucial error, because of my large size I decided (because I am poor without a lot of money) to NOT stay locally in Waterloo when released from the hospital. I found an **obscure** piece of paper buried in the Pre Surgical pack given to me five days before surgery, with slightly different care instructions, and attempted to justify my decision to not remain in the area.
Dr. Glasscock was very upset. BUT.. and I must stress this: In his handling of the situation he was NOT excessive, he was measured, and it reflected his **INTENSITY** for concern and total patient safety and care.
AND.. despite this action of mine being entirely my fault, POST surgery Dr. Glasscock came to my bedside and apologized for his being upset (I still dont think he was wrong : P but it showed the measure of the character of my surgeon that he did)
The risks of surgery were addressed in DETAIL. He insists on a strict pre and post surgical diet of clear liquids. The aftercare program is very structured, with expectations of POST op doctors visits at one week, two weeks (and others but Im not that far yet : )
I would rate him LITERALLY a 15 out of 10. Yes.. he IS that good.
Surgical Competence is better but the nice part is, Dr. Glasscock has a great bedside manner. (he plays the Cello flawlessly too Im told : )
I will continue to post, its 1-5-05 and I am 15 days Post OP, but I dont expect my opinion of my Surgeon, Dr. Glasscock to change : )
My experience was: Grueling. I was in the hospital over christmas, by myself, 130 miles from home. But the Surgeon was flawless, his staff very caring, and my hospital stay was as comfortable as it could have been.
I have had no complications, and I am thankful despite a very high BMI and weight that I was able to have laproscopic surgery.
These are my personal experiences with Dr Matthew Glasscock, Satori Hospital, and Covenant Health Systems of Waterloo Iowa. These are my personal impressions, I believe any person going into WLS would be well served to see and utilize Dr. Glasscock and his staff. However this is my opinion only. I think if you look online you will find the majority of the opinons of him and his staff are the same as mine : )
Dr. Matt is a really nice guy and I believe a very caring person. He's extremely personable because he really does "care" about his patients.
My first impression still holds today... I like him.
The office staff are very nice.
I have sent friends to him.
He takes aftercare to new limits. AND so should you!
Yes, he has an aftercare program.
He does address the risks.
I'd give Dr. Matt a "10"
Very knowledgable....very caring
My impression of him was very accurate the first time.
His staff is not always the most efficient but they do try, but at times they havent a clue.
Nothing I didnt like.
He is a caring thoughtful man.
He has a great after care program
He is a ten on a scale of one to ten with ten being highest.
Both are great!
I feel I was in the best hands and could not have had better DR care.
Funny, witty, inteligent person. He is a wonderful doc who is very good at what he does. He really cares about you as a person.
The office staff is very caring and they take the time for whatever it is you may need help with. Nothing to not like about Dr. G as long as you do what you are suppose to do. He likes for you to succeed so if you don't plan on using your tool the way he and God intended then don't bother cause it won't be a fun ride. Aftercare is very important and he stresses that very much. Dr. G has support group meetings every month and if you are having problems before that time the office staff can help or send you in the right direction for help. He is straitforward about the risks of surgery. I would give Dr. G and his staff the highest rating (1-10) they would get a 10+ all the way. Dr. G's competence and bedside manner are equally great.
I found Dr.Glascock to be very nice. He is very thorough and I felt he was covering every aspect to make sure that I would be a surgical candidate and a WLS candidate. I feel he really does care about his patients.
The PA Angela is great she is a thorough as Dr. is and she is very kind and caring and I also feel she also really cares about the patients!
The office staff has been great with any questions I had pre-op they were always pleasant and caring.
I also felt the nurses at Sartori are great! They also have so many great things to say about Dr and Angela! Your in good hands with them all.
I felt I was informed on all levels about the surgery risks and benefits and to what is to be expected of myself.
At this point I have nothing negative to say I only had one nurse at the hospital that I did not care for, but the rest of the nurses were so kind and so caring they were so great!
I thought he waas very personable. Overtime I felt like he cared about me as a person, not just a patient. office staff is wonderful. What I liked least is that he seems rushed. Future patients should know that he's not playing around-he's straight to the point! Aftercare is very emphasized-he wants to see you again, to help you with the aftercare. A very structured aftercare. He is very honest about the risks and cautious with his pre-op workup. I rate his excellent as a surgeon and even better as a person.
