Chicago Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery Bariatric Center
This surgery was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I had pain the day of surgery and the day after and never took any pain pills after that. In 1991 I had the VBG done open and lost 180 pounds but gained it back after five years. During this time I also had a lot of vomitting and GERD. Dr. Frantzides converted my VBG to a laparoscopic gastric bypass and he fixed my hiatal hernia and now I am one week out. I have no pain and no vomiiting. I lost fifteen pds. in one week and I feel like I have a new life starting.
Just saw him on the today show clip...he is still SO SEXY FINE~~~~~~~rnrnrnMy first impression of him was that he was very informed of the minimal laproscopic form of the surgery, and was great at making me feel safe and confortable. His staff is also AMAZING!!!! There is nothing I don't like about Dr. Frantzides, he is amazing and such a wonderful doctor. He address the risks or sugery, and weighs the pros and cons with you, they look after you after the surgery quite well to make sure you're doing great. They always respond to phone calls or e-mails the same day, which is another reason I love them so much, you are not alone after the surgery, they are always there for you. I would rate Dr. Frantzides and his staff as the best, the bedside manner is amazing as well as surgical competence. I would highly recommend them at Evanston Northwestern Hospital.
I am happy with my weight loss so far. I have lost 18 pounds in one month. My husband is happy too. Dr. Frantzides is nice and he explained everything to me. I was able to have surgery right away. I even brought in one of my friends in one of my follow up visits. After meeting Dr. Frantzides, she was thinking about having surgery too. She probably will. I am very happy so far.
update: I'm now almost 7 months out and down around 93 lbs. I never could have done it without Dr. F. rn____________rnDr. Frantzides and his staff are simply amazing. Ever since my first appointment with him I've felt completely loved and safe in their hands. I had LAP RNY on January 9th, 2008, and an hour after getting surgery, I was already up and walking! I truly believe that walking right away helped me heal a lot faster than if I were just stuck in bed. I went home the next day and continued to feel better and better, day by day.rnrnAll of the information you could ever hope for is provided to you during your visits and doesn't leave you at home wondering 'what am I supposed to do now?'.rnrnThanks to Dr. and his staff, I lost 26 pounds in my first month. I couldn't be more than thrilled.rnrnDr. Frantzides deserves a rating higher than 10/10. Thank you so much for helping me live my life again.
Dr. Frantzides is an excellent doctor and very gentle with you. He is very informative and funny. He is talkative and an all around great guy. I did a lot of research and he had more research behind his name than anyone else. I noticed he had a lot of positive results. He made me feel really comfortable and he let my decision be up to me between the lap band and the gastric bypass. A lot of my friends had the lap band with their doctors but I chose not to go with their doctors because they were not happy. My sister had the lap band and after one year had lost minimal weight.rnrnWhen they say minimally invasive surgery- that is exactly what it means. I am very happy with my results. He made it easier for me to go into surgery with a smile and I was very well prepared for the surgery.
I am 43 years old, former law enforcement officer who over many years had let my health decline. I developed type II diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, hyperlipidemia with a BMI of 57. I knew I had to do something to change my life drastically or I would be around much longer. After a throrough internet search of minimally invasive laproscopic gastric bypass surgeons, I found Dr. Frantzides in Skokie, IL. After reading his background info as an MD and his thorough education throughout the world and the many patients who gave him glowing references, I then contacted his office for pre-surgical evaluation in September 2007. My wife and I met Dr. Frantzides and his staff and was welcomed with open arms. After a thorough exam, Dr. Frantzides looked me straight in the eye and said \"I am going to save your life.\" As you imagine, I was overwhelmed with happiness and fear of the unknown. After a year of fighting with insurance, Dr. Frantzides submitted a lot of documentation to cases that was involved in with the NIH. In June 2008, I was finally approved for WLS and my surgery date was July 22nd. I arrived at St. Francis Hosp and spent 3 days post surgical. Dr. Frantizides and his staff (Dr. Roberts) were very helpful and always been reassuring to me. One week after surgery, I had my post-op exam and most of my staples removed and I could walk further than I could before the surgery with a loss of 16 pounds. I truly believe Dr. Frantzides saved my life as wlll as he could save yours. Call 847-676-2200 to start your new life.
I had my RNY on January 23, 2008 and 6 months later I am down 60 pounds and am a little more than halfway to my goal weight. I feel wonderful now. My blood pressure is low and my knees no longer hurt. I can walk briskly for 30 minutes, and I have even started to incorporate a little jogging into my walk.rnrnI had never had surgery before my RNY so I wanted to make sure I had the very best surgeon I could get because I was understandably nervous. I researched and found that Dr. Frantzides was an expert in laproscopic surgery and so I consulted with him. After meeting with him, he instilled my husband and me with complete confidence. The only reason I went ahead with the surgery is because I had such confidence in Dr. Frantzides. When I was alone in the hospital being prepped for surgery, the nurse asked me if I wanted some medication for anxiety. I told her that I was fine without it. She said, “I know, you seem really calm,” and I was because I trusted Dr. Frantzides and his crew. My husband and I had to travel three hours to Chicago for the surgery and for all the doctor visits since, and even though I really dislike going to Chicago, I am willing to do it so that Dr. Frantzides can be my physician.rnrnI did have more pain than I expected (but since it was my first and only surgery, I have nothing to compare it to, and I was still able to go back to work on the 10th day after surgery). My guess is it was because I actually had four surgeries. I had the RNY, my gallbladder removed, hiatal hernia repair and a liver biopsy. I know of several people in the area where I live who have had the surgery (there are only two bariatric surgeons around here) and they had to have the open RNY, even though they only weighed in the 200’s or light 300’s. The fact that Dr. Frantzides could do all four of my surgeries laproscopically is amazing and a testament to his skill as a surgeon. The surgery took four hours and Dr. Frantzides joked that I looked better than he did after it was over. My husband concurred.rnrnMy negative experience with the surgery had to do with cost rather than with Dr. Frantzides. Make sure you know what the surgeon will charge, what the hospital will charge and what the insurance will pay -- and get it in writing if possible. The total cost of my operation was more than twice what I expected. I had to write an appeal to both my insurance companies. Dr. Frantzides gave me a bit of a break, the hospital finally lowered its bill and the insurance company coughed up more money, so everything turned out okay, but for a while there I was frantic with worry about how I would pay my share. The hospital was the biggest expense. Dr. Frantzides and his office did what they could to help me with my insurance issues. He's not a fan of insurance companies either.rnrnAnyhow, getting back to Dr. Frantzides, he is a great surgeon who really knows his stuff and I recommend him enthusiastically.rn
One word - Fantastic. His staff is simply amazing and I couldn't have asked for a surgeon with more knowledge and skill. rnrnI have struggled with my weight since I was in third-grade and had minor complications since high-school. Most recently, after a year of battles with weight-related health issues that ranged from cellulitis to plantar facititis I finally received approval from insurance for the RNY. Dr. Frantzides staff worked with me to help make that approval a reality. rnrnTwo days before surgery my weight had topped out at 431lbs and my BMI was 62. I also need to mention that after Dr. Frantzides ordered a liver biopsy in surgery, we discovered I was on the verge of liver failure due to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. This had not even been a consideration or suggested by any prior physician.rnrnBoth my wife and her mother have had the RNY and Dr. Frantzides was their surgeon as well. They are also both doing amazingly well and have lost almost a combined 300lbs. Together we are looking to push that over the 600lbs mark. That's a lot of weight folks.rnrnSimply put choosing Dr. Frantzides to perform my Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass saved my life and has given me options I never realized I had.
My experience has been great so far. I am one month out and lost 50 pds. and lost 30 pts. in blood pressure and sleep apnea is virtually gone. I have a neck again. Went with the doctors recommendation for my case. He felt that Gastric Bypass was a better fit for my situation. Pain and suffering was much less than anticipated by doctors and nurses. So far everyone (family, friends, customers and distributors) are all excited and jealous at the same time. I would recommend this for people who love to eat and cant stop eating. I am just not hungry anymore compared to always being hungry in the past.
