4/26 - First appointment. Dr. Regan is smart and eager to share with his patients the opportunities that can change our lives! The staff is fantastic, esp. Sue Dugan and dietician... Dr. Regan is very serious and very knowledgeable. An intimidating mix, but I find that it makes for better trust in the long run. Psych eval on 5/9...

Dr. Regan came highly recommended. He was very personable. My first offical meeting was my consult appointment in November 2004. He was concern about me having IBS. He recommened I consult with Dr. Helmut Ammon. My second meeting was on 3/17/05. I very worried about my painful menstraul cycle. He was very reasurring. He answered all my questions. A little background information - my mother had the surgery on 2/14/05. So, I had the opportunity to meet him on the "other side". You know, as a concern daughter waiting for those words "everything went well". He spent a good amount of time speaking with me. I know everything will be okay.

I was very impressed with Dr. Regan since I first met him at a seminar of his at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital. He is very straight forward, informative, well mannered and looks great! His nurse Sue Dugan is a very dedicated nurse and works hard to keep everything rolling for doc. Nutritionist Peg also is great! She is very helpful and realistic. She makes the food plan sound very liveable and is willing to answer questions anytime. Dr. Regan has a very structured program and leaves no questions un-answered. I would rate him a EXCELLENT doctor with a great bedside manner. He always found the time to come visit me twice a day in the hospital and gave me time to ask questions. My surgery went great! He said he could perform a lap RNY on Monday and I would be going home on Wed. He wasn't kidding. On Wed. afternoon I was back home :-) Was able to take a shower and wash my hair on my own on Wed. and removed bandaids. Came home with no visible stitches, stapels or any drain tubes. Felt great to sleep in my own bed! Would I reccomend him to others?? YOU BET!

I have only the best things to say about Dr. Siverhus. He is, to me, the greatest surgeon and really a wonderful and caring man. He was very informative when I first saw him at my initial evaluation. My husband also felt the same. After my gastric bypass Dr. Siverhus was always there if I had any medical questions, anytime of the day.
I've had intermittent problems with taking iron including stomach pains and he was right there with me trying to figure it out and just being the great doctor that he is.
I recently had surgery with Dr. Siverhus again, exploratory laparotomy and lysis of adhesions. I was in the hospital for 4 days and he was always available when I had questions or when the hospital staff needed to ask him questions for me.
He has a great bedside manner and is always there when I have questions, and I've had a lot in the past year.
Thank's Dr. Siverhus for being such a wonderful surgeon and wonderful person....

i just may have the best surgeon in the world! since we were ol' buds (gallbladder removal 1997) i felt real comfortable with him right from the start. he answered all of my questions (including my moms questions) and made sure that i (we) understood everything along the way.
on surgery day, he made a visit to me first thing in the morning before he even changed into his surgery gear. i appreciated that so much because it showed he cared and that he wanted to make sure that i was ok and ready. and after the surgery he popped in to check on me several times, which i didnt expect at all (and they didnt even let me wash my hair!).
i have seen dr siverhus a couple of times since surgery and he has always made me feel comfortable and i know that he will always be available for me (medically that is!).
i wouldnt trade surgeons for nothin'!!!

My first impression of Dr. Regan was how handsome he was, and then that he looked at me while talking to me. That shows sincerity and concern.
His office demeanor is not rushed at all. He listens as well as asks questions. I was a little miffed about the lady canceling my first appt after I gave her all the information, but I was more impressed with the oversight being corrected so quickly. The staff was very friendly and very attentive.
Dr Regan did discuss the risks of the surgery as well as the risks of not doing something about my weight. My BMI is 59. 5"6" 368 lbs. I would have liked to discuss teh actual surgery a little more with him as far as teh procedure itself and how long it takes etc. I think surgical competence is more important although a nice bedside manner helps. But I'm not looking to Dr. Regan for friendship. I'm looking for him to be my surgeon in a very delicate and intricate procedure. This was my impression of my first visit.

Dr. Regan is great. His office staff works very hard to make sure insurance will pay for the surgery. There are 2 levels of support group, those out less than 6 months or contemplating surgery and Post Op patients 6 months or longer. There is also a new exercise program. Patients are given a phone number to call if they have any questions post op and the staff is great about getting back to you quickly even on weekends and evenings.
I would rate my experience as excellent. I healed quickly and was back to work in 4 weeks. At 4 months post surgery I now eat almost anything successfully, with the exception of sugar which I really haven't tried.

Dr. Regan was quite personable. Before my consult, I had attended one of the group sessions and was impressed with the presentation, as well as the ease and confidence in Dr. Regan's answers and knowledge. Gail, Sue, and Mari (Nurses) were all knowledgeable and helpful and that I was glad about. The nutritionist , Peggy, was quite helpful in that she made sure I had a thorough understanding of all that was to come. Each person, including the psych., placed a lot of emphasis on follow-up care and the support groups and they made sure you knew that someone would be there for you if you had concerns. A-one is my rating for this surgeon and his team. They talked about the risks of the surgery and answered any questions re: this hospital's outcome with re to side/adverse affects/deaths. A prayerful surgeon is important to me and i asked Dr. Regan about his belief in that and was satisfied with his response. I truly believe surgical competence should be a given if one is performing these surgeries, and a positive, caring bedside manner has helped with the entire process, (as in aromatheraphy and healing or soothing music and sleeping well, etc, etc.)
I was impressed with Dr. Regan and I'd heard many favorable things about him. I'd also heard a few negative things about a member of the staff, but personally I didn't experience any of this.
