Coastal Center for Obesity Bariatric Center
Dr Owens is a kind and caring Dr. He is willing to answer any and all questions you ask.
I had a bit of a problem about 6 months post-op, he did everything in his power to help me. Which included showing up early on a saturday morning. He also made arrangements to help contain the emergency room visit costs. Well above the call of duty.
I can't really say anything negative about him. He's good!
Dr Owens is a Dr. in demand. He is always busy, but will do whatever he can to help you.
He is pretty much straight forward about aftercare. He told me flat out it would be up to me to keep off the weight and it was not a quick fix..
Dr. Miltons office and Alvarado combined have been fabulous in getting my Authorization done. So far I am just approved. I met the Dr Owens today (4/17/2006). He was really nice. He has a sense of humor, a nice bedside manner and was easy to talk with (even though I was hella nervous). His office staff in Orange was very courteous to me even though I had arrived an hour and a half early LOL. I will post more later as I get more familiar with him and experience him more.
Dr Owens is the best in my opinion. My husband and I met him and we both felt very comfortable in discussing this surgery with him. He is very positive and straight to the point. He answered my questions.
His staff in San Diego make you feel like you are their # 1 priority.
His surgical competence and bedside manner both are above and beyond what I anticipated.
There was a small problem during the surgery. My husband was informed, nothing was kept secret. My surgery was Friday, Dr Owens was there on Saturday and on Sunday. He also left a # where he could be reached. I used it and had the response I was looking for within 15 minutes.
He does not require bowel prep and when I went home Sunday-no drains, no staples, just a huge smile!
I met Dr. Owens for the first time this morning at a seminar! I loved him! He is smart, sympathetic and tries (patiently I might add) to answer all of your questions. I can't think of anything right now that I don't like...I met him at a seminar so of course after care was extremely stressed as well as attending a support group before. I was impressed with his description of the risks/benefits of surgery and his obvious knowledge and passion for his field! I would highly recommend him!! Of course this is my own opinion, but if it were based on opinions and my observation I would recommend him!
Dr. owens is a fabulous surgeon and well skilled at performing laproscopic RNY gastric bypass. His bedside manner is a little curt but he is well versed in his surgeon skills and, ultimately, that is all I cared about. He's definitely in the Top Ten.
Dr.Owens was an excellent surgeon and resource in 1998 unfortunately years passed and I had concerns and some weight gain and was told Dr.Owens will now only see people who have funds for a revision surgery in hand so was turned away. I was fortunate to meet an excellent surgeon Kevin Montgomery MD in WA. and had LapBand 1/2006.
I liked Dr. Owens because he is great at what he does. He has been performing bariatric surgeries for over two decades and has spoken about his weight loss on national news shows like Good Morning America. Not that those accolades swayed me it was the fact that he lived up to his reputation with my surgery. I didn't want to leave a comment about him or his staff until after I had my surgery. Since I am kind of a Proof in the Pudding kind of woman I can honestly say that he exceeded my very high expectations. I would recommend him to anyone thinking of this surgery because he is state of the art in his practice techniques, he provides EVERYTHING conveniently online, and his staff really is wonderful. There I said it.... they ALL were wonderful. He just gets special kudos since he did the work *wink*
I met Dr. Owens at the orientation. He was very friendly. He was able to answer my questions after the class with out hesitation. His staff worked dilligently to get the information to my insurance company and also for all my pre-op paper-work before the surgery. I was able to talk with the nurses with the questions I had as well.
I would recommend Dr. Owens to future patients. I rate Dr. Owens and his staff very high.
My first impression of Dr. Owens was that he really knew his practice. When I listened to him at the seminar I left saying that if I was going to have the surgery, he was definately the one that was going to do it. Over time my impression of Dr. Owens has slightly changed, after surgery I have had questions, or problems and Dr. Owens has not helped me very much. He is so busy I talk to his wonderful nurse more than him. The office staff is GREAT. Especially Nancy and Deanna.
Future patients should be aware that Dr. Owens knows the surgery like the back of his hand if not better, so that may pose a problem if your case or situation is too different from a normal one.
After care is more important to Dr. Owens than the surgery itself. He is determined to see his patience lose.
For me Dr. Owens bedside manner and surgical competence were equal. He took time to discuss the surgery with me in great detail, in the seminar, in his office, right before surgery and he came in several times while I was in the hospital to check on me and just to talk. He sat down and talked, he didn't just run in and out.
Dr. Owens is a great Dr. He just must try hard to think outside the box when it comes to problems with eating and other small problems I had after surgery.
I ADORE Dr. Owens. The very first time I met him at my pre-op appointment, I thought he was distant and cold-not true! He is just so focused and meticulous, it comes across as cold at first. After my surgery, he was thre everyday and was always funny and concerned. My post-op appointments have been great and he is always a little silly which I like. I believe he is a brilliant surgeon and I am very happy with my decision to make him my surgeon.
