Coastal Center for Obesity Bariatric Center
He is one of the first "thin" people I have met that truly understands what it is like to be overweight.
I have not yet met Dr. Owens personally. I went to a information seminar-type meeting to find out about WLS and the options available. He seems very quiet but competant, having performed this surgery over 1000 times. His staff has been very open, honest and friendly. They have called my insurance company and gotten approval in less than a month. They helped me obtain appointments for pre-op tests. They have weekly support group meetings that anyone interested can attend and I have attended a couple of these although now I will start going every week. Aftercare program is very structured - protien shakes are what I will be consuming for 4 weeks. Risks of surgery are presented factually but Dr. Owens has a positive attitude and tries to minimize fears. I will have a private consultation with him on August 8th and will be able to evaluate him better after that.
My first impression of Dr. Owens was that he was very personable and professional. He is so respectful and caring in everything he does and says. Dr. Owens was very thorough in explaining the procedure. He has genuine concerns for his practice and each and every client. The office staff is exceptional. They were very prepared and knowledgeable. They handled all the paper work sent to the insurance for approval and I was approved in less than two weeks. I highly recommend Dr. Owens and his staff.
Dr. Owens is a very experienced surgeon with this procedure. He came highly recommended and so far, I am very impressed with his knowledge and kind attitude.
The office staff is very helpful and pleasant to deal with.
Dr. Owens believes strongly in following his patients for a long time. Has a support group on Monday nights, run by a psychologist, that is very informative and helpful for his patients.
Dr. Owens spent the time with me that was necessary and answered all my questions patiently. I believe my surgery will go well with him in charge!
i really was impressed w/his professionalism
the kindness in his eyes and his general overall compassion for his work.
The first time I spoke with Dr. Owens he seemed almost shy, but he is just the quiet type. His staff is wonderful, especially Tina and Peggy Ann. I was constantly calling and asking questions, but they were very sweet and answered all my questions. I haven't anything negative to say about the staff or Dr. Owens. They are very attentive and make you feel very comfortable. They really put you at ease. The Dr. likes to keep in touch with his patients even if it's years later. He is very adamant about after care programs. He informs you entirely of the risks, leaving no questions on your mind. If I were to grade him, a definite 10+.In my opinion surgical competence and bedside manner are top prioreties. Dr. Owen definitly has both excellent bedside manners and surgical competence.
I like Dr. Owens. He was sweet, funny and informative. His wife is also a pleasure to speak with as well as the staff. He answered all the questions I had and went over everything in detail. He spoke of the sergery the different types and the after care. The after care program seems wonderful. I really have nothing negative to say about my experience I enjoyed Dr. Owens and his staff.
AS OF DEC 1 MY INSURANCE HAS CHANGED TO AETNA.I NO LONGER AM GOING TO SEE DR. OSTROFF.I HAD TO FIND A NEW PCP,(DR.JONES HE'S GREAT),HE HAS REFERRED ME TO DR. MILTON OWENS,DOWN SOUTH IN SAN PEDRO CA.DR.OWENS STAFF HAS GOTTEN ME A CONSULTATION APPT.IN JUST TWO WEEKS (OTHER DOCT'S AN AVERAGE OF TWO TO THREE MONTHS JUST FOR CONSULT APPT.)I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SOME OF DR.OWENS PRIOR PATIENTS AND ALL HAVE NOTHING BUT GREAT STUFF TO SAY ABOUT HIM.THEY SAY THAT HE'S A VERY CARING AND UNDERSTANDING MAN. ~SO LET'S SEE, I'LL LET YOU KNOW AFTER MY CONSULTATION ON JAN 8~~~~~WISH ME LOTS OF LUCK~~~~~~~
Dr. Owens is highly professional, as is his entire staff. I think that he's an excellent surgeon with thorough knowledge and experience in this field. He also tends to be state of the art, e.g., he uses something like super glue to bind the incision rather than staples. Your scar ends up not looking like railroad tracks and you don't have to go through the painful staple removal process.
I have worked with his staff in Orange, and they are great, all very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. The staff took care of writing a professional letter to my insurance carrier and they also dealt with the follow-up call to the carrier.
His aftercare program is also excellent, with weekly support group meetings both in Orange and in San Pedro. Dr. Owens' wife, Tracy, an RN herself, also works with patients doing nutritional counseling each step of the way. I have been very impressed with their aftercare program.
I'd rate Dr. Owens and his staff a 10, the highest rating. I have discussed this a with a new friend who had surgery by Dr. Owens a couple of weeks after me, and we both feel very fortunate to have such a competent and caring surgeon.
My first impression of Dr. Owens was that he was friendly, but a bit on the impersonal side. I have only met with him once so my impression has not changed. His office staff, Michelle to be exact, is excelent. They are very prompt with returning calls, and since most of them have had the surgery themselves they are very suportive. Over this past year they have been most helpful. I can't say enough good things about his staff. There is nothing that I disliked about the dr. He was very thorough and i didn't feel rushed at all. He greatly emphasizes after care and he has a very srtructured aftercare program. He even commented that he often calls patients to make sure they are exersizing. He did address the risks of surgery. I am the mother of 3 small children, so he went into all the risks, even the very small chance of death, as with any surgery. So far i rate him very highly, like a 9, and his staff I rate a 10+. He seems very competent, and his bedside manner is not too bad, I would recomend him to anyone.
