I Liked Dr. Owens from the first time we spoke, He gives me a comfort and hope for a new begining in life. His staff is wonderful and very helpful.

First immpression was that he was very clinical and highly experienced. As time went on I found him to be so overworked that he didn't seem to remember one patient from the next. The office staff is very nice and efficient and they really know their stuff. Dr. Owens is a find surgeon, but is lacking in the bedside manner department, which is not a bad thing - only an observation. Aftercare has been minimal and no structured program is iplemented. As for the risk of surgery, he pretty much spells it out in black and white. Anyone can die during surgery and all surgeries run a risk. He is a competent surgeon, on the dry side as far as personality is concerned and somewhat aloof. Bariatric Surgery is a huge step in a positive direction for us and I think Bariatric Surgeons need to keep a very up beat manner about themselves to encourage us to do the same. I highly recommend Dr. Owens as an efficient and professional surgeon with a tremendous amount of experience. I did quite a bit of research and found that he was my best bet at the time I had surgery. JMHO

dr. owens seems to be very straight forward,
listens and thinks about your questions before responding. The answers seemed to be directed toward my personal needs. The office staff is very kind, understanding, effecient, left nothing for me to be concerned with.
After care is started before surgery. Group meetings are required, and offered weekly for [peer support. Physical therapy is started before surgery and continued from the second day of surgery.
The risks of surgery are well defined.
At this point, at post op 1day. I rate him very highly. I deem surgical competence of greater importance, but the doctors understanding and treatment of the whole person of course is crictical for the best outcome.

I liked Dr. Owens the first time I saw him. I meet him during the seminare. I have yet been to the office. But, his staff has been very nice over the phone. I love the support group that he offers. The chapman hospital that I'll be going too seems very nice.

I was so happy with Dr.Owens. I will be forever grateful for him and the work that he does. I was so impressed with their after program. They hold support group meetings every week, I can call them whenever I have a question/concern. His office staff is AWESOME! He explained all of the risks to me about the surgery. I have been so happy with Dr.Owens and I know others will be too.

My first impression with Dr. Owens is good. He really stresses the complications that can occur with the surgery. He also reminds you that 1 in 200 die from this surgery. That kind of scared me a little bit. His office staff especially Michelle are EXCELLENT!! They are so caring and are willing to answer any questions about anything eventhough they have heard them at least 100 times already.

I have not met dr owens yet... but his office staff has been outstanding. Extremely helpful with insurance, getting my surgery scheduled asap. and not being annoyed by my numerous phone calls and questions!!

I did a lot of research on the Internet and came across Coastal Center for Obesity (www.coastalobesity.com). I liked the fact that he was near my home and work. I decided to meet and check into a few other programs. I looked into Dr. LePort's program and it looked really well organized and the Dr. seemed to have a lot of experiance, but his location was a little inconvenient for me. I drove down to Dr. Wittgrove, who was the surgeon that did Carnie Wilson...he was a very knowledgable and confident surgeon but his office didn't take my insurance. I checked with Dr. Quebbman's program in Newport Beach; however, he did not take my insurance (I liked the fact that he is an advanced lap. surgeon). I eventually went to a support group meeting for Dr. Owens and was very impressed by the results of his patients and their praise for him. I went to a seminar that he held with Carnie Wilson. This was an awsome event and gave me the opportunity to speak with him for a few moments after the meeting. I was very impressed with his knowledge and the care that seemed to be written all over his face. I felt that he really wanted to help this problem that we all have suffered through. He was very confident but not arrogant, soft-spoken but not shy. He explained all of the risk and provided ample time to answer everyone's questions. I have not had my personal consultation with him yet...so I will have to fill you in on all of that later. His office staff seemed super supportive and pleasant especially Nancy, Valerie, and Karen.

My first impression was that Dr. Owens was a little timid, very knowledgeable, and passionate about what he was doing for people.

Over time, I still believe he is passionate about his ability to help morbidly obese people.

His staff was helpful and ready to get you approved. Maybe a bit overworked..this practice is very popular in So. California.

I think what I liked least about Dr. Owens was perhaps that when he was seeing so many patients, his visits to me in the hospital were abrupt and not terribly informative. He was nice enough, just ready to go on to the next patient.

Future patients should know that I had no complications and my incision looks wonderful! Dr. Owens uses surgical glue to glue your incision together which doesn't leave any staple marks at all. A very clean and tidy incision!

Aftercare is very important to Dr. Owens and his staff. He truly believes in upper body development through using weights. He encourages exercise immediately. For the first 4 weeks, you are required to be on the protein shakes which is an excellent way to allow your body to heal. They get VERY boring, but do the best you can.

You pay for and are asked to participate in support group after your surgery. I've been to group before and after surgery and they are very informative and very popular.

Dr. Owens requires that you attend his seminar before surgery and also a support group. He covers all aspects of the surgery and especially the risks of surgery. I believe you are well informed.

I picked Dr. Owens because other friends of mine had him for their surgery and were pleased. He has years of experience with this particular surgery and I felt very comfortable with my decision. In my opinion he did a wonderful job with my Open RNY.
