Central California Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
I first met him at a seminar that you have to do before they consider you for surgery. Never saw him again until day of surgery. He was a cheerful person and answered all my question. After hearing others comment about him I knew what to expect. His office staff is the greatest. The doctor came to see me prior to the surgery. I saw the doctor twice after the surgery while in the hospital. I think that's a record.
I had the experience of being under the care of both Dr. Coates and Dr. Coirin. Both were great to me. Of course, like everyone else, I saw Dr. Coates at the seminar, and then again just prior to my surgery. The support staff is great. Diane (PA) always takes as much time as needed to answer all my questions and address my concerns. Monica(PA) was so nice and came to see me each day I was in the hospital and checked on me. I did not see Dr. Coates while I was in the hospital nor at my post ops so far, and I am assuming I never will unless something extreme happens. A day after I was released, I had developed a bowel obstruction from an incisional hernia buring the surgery. For this, I was treated by Dr. Coirin who was on call for Dr. Coates. Although it was the first time I met him, I was very impressed with him and he was so nice. He did my surgery at about 10PM because I was so sick and in pain. The next morning I was visit by both Monica and Dr. Coirin. I am very pleased with my care. Aftercare is definitely an area of emphasis. There is ongoing support in the form of nutrition classes and support groups. The nutrition classes are required and I think that is nice, because it makes us more accountable.
He was personable and informative, however, you only see him one time prior to surgery so be prepared with your questions. His office staff was and is friendly and helpful. His PA is really sweet and knowledgeable.rnTheir group really emphasizes after care, they give you very good written info., classes that are helpful and really make sure to follow you up with labs.rnThe risks of surgery were totally explained.rnI would rate Dr. Coates and his staff at an overall 10 of 10. Memorial hospital in Modesto was also excellent. The care and kindness of the staff was impressive.rnAs far as the question of bedside manner vs. surgical competence- I think I would like both, but obviously if I had to choose- of course it would be competence.
I LIKE TO THANK DR. COIRIN, FOR GIVIVING ME ANOTHER CHANCE TO LIVE A HEALTH LIFE. I DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO THINK ABOUT HIM AT FRIST. NOW I THINK HES A VERY NICE PERSON. THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL AND KIND. THEY ANSWER ANY QUESTION THAT I MIGHT HAVE. THAT HE CHECKS UP ON HIS PATIENTS IF NOT HIM SOMEONE IN THE OFFICE WILL CALL YOU TO SEE HOW YOU ARE DOING. THEY MAKE SURE YOU COME IN FOR CHECK UP, GO TO MEETINGS,ARE YOU TAKING YOU MEDS, THE OFFICE ALSO LET MY OTHER DOCTOR KNOW WHATS GOING WITH ME ANY LABS OR MED CHANCES HOW I'M DOING WITH THE WIEGHT PROGRAM. I THINK I HAD A GREAT SURGICAL AND I TALK ABOUT HIM TO ALL MY FRIENDS. I RATE HIM 100%rnTHEY ARE BOTH GREAT.
I never did meet my surgeon, as my surgery date was cancelled one business day before I was scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery. rnrnI want to share that it is VERY IMPORTANT that YOU call your insurance company to verify that you are pre-approved. The surgeon's office told me I was approved and had me do all the tests prior to surgery, then said my insurance wasn't approved afterall. rnrnWhen asked if they would reimburse for all the bloodwork and EKG, they said it was MY responsibility to verify that I was covered with the insurance company.rnrnSo, please learn from my personal experience. It will save you and the doctor's office a lot of grief.
Dr. Coirin was awesome. I had little pain with no issues. I couldnt of prayed for a better surgery & process. I have had no issues other than having to have my gallbladder removed 7 months after the surgery. That was done by Dr. Coitin also. No issues with that either. Very happy with the whole surgery process for both.rnrnThe office staff is great also, very helpful & quick to get you answers.
At the seminar Dr. Coates came off as very funny, knowledgeable and laid back. It wasn't until almost 11 months later and the day before my surgery that I got to see him one on one. But when I did he was just as nice and relaxed as he appeared in the seminar. The office staff have always been more than helpful, warm and friendly. The only negative I'd have to say aboat Coates is that he has so many patients, is in such high demand (does SO many surgeries) that I've heard so many stories about patients not meeting him until a week post-op. I guess I got lucky to see him at my pre-op, the morning of, and the day after! I've heard he has a great record with minimal complications. His bedside manner is a little off when he interjects his wierd sense of humor and your left wondering if he was serious or joking.
