Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss Bariatric Center
I have only met with Dr.Shina one time and he seemed to be very forward, he wanted you to understand what is happening and what to expect. From the testing that I am scheduled for, I believe he is very cautious. His office staff has been very pleasant. Althougth I can't say much about him since only meeting him one time, I know a patient of his that recommended him very highly. He truly emphasizes aftercare, and prefers you to ask any questions you may have. He was very blunt concerning the risk. I feel that I have made a great choice, I believe that he is a good surgeon, and I have heard good comments concerning him.
Dr. Shina spoke very frankly about what he expected and I like that. I don't need to be pampered just God grant him the knowledge to help me in my new quest. I know it is required to meet with him again before surgery but I have already claimed good health and I know for a fact God Our Father is going to make it alright. I claimed it and it is mine.
I MET DR.SHINA WHEN I ATTENDED A CONFERENCE AT THE SIGNITURE INN. IN EVANSVILLE IN NOVEMBER. HE SEEMED VERY DOWN TO EARTH, EASY TO UNDERSTAND,AND COMPASSIONATE. HIS CORDINATER DONNA WHO HAS HAD THE SURGERY WAS THERE AND SHE LOOKED GREAT YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN SHE WAS EVER OVER WEIGHT. THE THING HE SAID THAT MADE THE BIGGEST IMPACT I THOUGHT WAS WHEN HE SAID ONCE YOU ARE A BYPASS PATIENT YOU ARE ALWAYS A BYPASS PATIENT JUST AS A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT PATIENT FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE HAS TO TAKE REJECTION MEDS. YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE PILLS AND SEE DOC.S FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. HE SAID THE SURGERY CAN BE UNDONE BUT THERE ARE MORE COMPLICATIONS THAN DOING IT. HE SAID YOU MUST'NT WEIGH OVER 475 BEFORE SURGERY BECAUSE RISKS ARE HIGHER. HE SAID HE HAS HAD TWO PATIENTS DIE BUT BOTH WERE VERY OBESE OVER 500IBS. AND IN POOR HEALTH AND NOW HE WOULDNT DO PEOPLE LIKE THAT UNTILL THEY HAD LOST SOME TO MAKE THE PROCEEDURE SAFER. HE SAID INSURANCE CO. TAKES ABOUT 3 MO. TO APROVE. COST W/OUT INS. IS BETWEEN 16,000-18,000. $10,000 DOWN!!!! HE SAID HE CAN TAKE OFF EXTRA SKIN ABOUT 1 YEAR AFTER WT. IS LOST AND AT A DISCOUNT. HE ASKS THAT YOU DEDICATE THE YEAR POST SURGEY TO HIM SINCE THIS WILL CHANGE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE,HE SAID THE ONES WHO DONT DO WELL FELL TO MEET ALL THE POST OP REQUIREMENTS. I GOT THAT THE INS. CO WANTED ALL OF THE AFTERCARE AND SUPPORT SO THAT PEOPLE COULD NOT JUST LOOSE WT. BUT LIVE HEALTHIER LIVES ALL TOGATHER. IF YOU ARE A SMOKER YOU MUST QUIT 30 DAYS PRIOR. MY OVER ALL OPINION IS VERY GOOD AND NOW I WILL PROCEEDE ON WITH MY CONSILTATION IN JANUARY.
Dr. Shina and his office staff are very professional and very kind. Aftercare is very important to him. He expects you to follow his rules, but that's for your benefit. I can tell he really cares about all of his patients.
Dr. Mark Shina left me with a very good first impression. Which is a good thing, because the next time I see him wll probibly be the morning of my surgery. He is nice and has direct answers to your questions. I can't imagine him the kind of doctor that is going to hold your hand and pat your head, but I'll bet he's probibly one of the most compentent doctors doing this type of surgery. After care is everthing that is going to make this program work and there is a good support group to help.

nothing
Dr. Shina is very good. He will help you in any way he can. Listen to him.
Dr. Shina highly emphasises aftercare.
He works closely with several facilities in the area.
Dr. Shina will tell you up front what to expect from the surgery. He doesnt gloss it over. He will tell you it is going to hurt, but he wants you to be in as little pain as possible.
I think Dr. Shina is a fine surgeon. I would see him again if the need ever arose.
Both surgical competence and bedside manner are great.
When I first met Dr. Shina, I felt he was a very wise and knowledgable person. He seems very rushed, but will let you know what is what. He is Very in fact about things. He lets you know up front that if you don't want to help yourself, or if you are not doing this for the right reasons you will fail. I like the fact that his staff are very caring and knowledgable as well. THey are ready to assist you in what ever way that they can. At my seminar in the beginning he let all of us know that he would be there all the way through if we had trouble with insurance or whatever to let him know and he would see what he could do. Aftercare is essential to success. you must follow up for your own protection and for success. I hear his bedside manner is not all that great, but I can't say for sure I will have to update on that, but for now all I can say is that i really feel privledged to have Dr. Shina on my side. I give him a G R E A T B I G ****10**** Well My update is about the staff at Dr Shina's office. It is now Sept 4 and I am due for my depro shot. I was uncertain about getting it so close to my surgery, because the Dr. doesn't want yu taking certain meds 30 days prior. Since I was more than 30 days prior, they thought i would be o.k. but since they were not possitive they told me to wait till they talked to the Dr. I am so glad that I did due to the fact that the shot is 3 mo worth of meds the Dr said no. I am glad they followed up and got a possitive answer instead of guessing.
