First my impressions of Dr. Shina was a very pleasing one he was very upfront about my smoking habit and gave me no choice , that I will quit 4 weeks in advance simply because of the risks involved . I had no problem in dealing with this ultimatum. Or frankly I should say "choice". My impression of him and his staff has not changed over time. The staff seems to me to be very commited in helping their patients through any problems they may have. They also have a very good support group involved in the aftercare of the patients. Also , I want to say that they give you plenty of literature on the surgery prior to, if you have any questions at all they make it very easy to get the answers. He is very easy to talk to . Don't be shy. All of these coments are solely my opinion.

My first impression was that he was very impersonal and straight to the point. I believe now that Dr. Shina is an awsome Dr. and only care about his patients and their health. The staff is awsome and understanding. Dr. Shina is very offish at first and gets straight to the business at hand. That he is good at what he does and cares for his patients. He emphasizes it all the time, states that aftercare is most important. Dr. Shina meets with the help group once a month. Dr. Shina made me aware of all of the complications during and after the surgery. I give Dr. Shina a ten because he is helping all of the overweight people when no one would. I believe surgical competence is more important, but it makes the person feel much better when they receive a great bedside manner. THANK YOU DR. SHINA YOU ARE AWESOME!

I have only met with Dr. Shina once. I enjoyed the seminar at his office. I thought that it was very informative. Dr. Shina answered all of our questions and even pressed us for more. I had done alot of research before I went to see him, so I really didn't have many questions. I will have more of an opinion, once I have surgery next month.

My first impression of Dr. Shina is he values his job & his patients, he seem to enjoy what he does. He didn't hold any punches. He told us the risks & benefits of this surgery. He answered all questions to the fullest extent. He didn't seem to rush, even though his pager went off & it was the hospital. He asked one of his assistants to check on the page. I rate him an easy 10+ I hope the surgery goes off without a hitch....

Dr. Shina seems to be a very capable, knowledgeable physician. Our first appointment was 2/19/02. He briefly met with me, and joked a little. He met with our group and explained everything over and over and asked for questions. I believe he will be a great surgeon and am looking foreward to having this surgery and starting a new life.

I met Dr. Shina at a seminar he was giving about the surgery. He was very honest and straight forward. I appreciate that. I have an consultation on 3-19 and I will post more after that.

First impression was that he was kind of different.
This impression really hasn't changed.
His office staff is wonderful.
He doesn't have a very good bed-side manner.
He did inform me of most of the risks and everything involved in the surgery.
Seems like the one thing I don't remember him telling me about is the one
complication that I had. I had scar tissue which caused a blockage in my small intestines.

I met with Dr. Shina for the first time today. He is an intelligent, well educated and qualified surgeon. He is to the point and doesn't minch his words. I've heard some really great things about Dr. Shina from post-op patients. I'm still pre-op (surgery sched for 1/31/02) so it will be interesting to get to know him better.

I have only had my initail meeting with Dr. Shina, but he gave me a feeling of confidence.
He comes very highly reccommended. I have heard nothing derogitory about him. I have heard he has a "brisk" bedside manner but, that is not something I would concern myself with.
One of the hospital staff at Suburban Hospital, jokingly, said that Dr. Shina has done so many of thes that he could do them with his eyes shut...I told her that I wanted his eyes WIDE open
I guess it is a good sign when the hospital staff that really have nothing to do with Shina or his work, say good things about him.

My first impression of Dr. Shina was a little scary. Dont get me wrong, he was very professional, but factful. He laid it all on the line, bad and good. Even to the point that the surgery alone will not work without changing my life, and lifestyle. But he did say, and so far it is true, he and his staff will and have done everything possible to help me. Everyone in his office has been very kind, even after calling for the smallest questions. The information they send even before the first consult is very informative and easy to understand. I am very confident that I will be well taken care of, by both Dr. Shina and his staff. The only thing I have to say negatively is that Dr. Shina may not have the best bedside manner, but between you and me, I need someone that will get mad at me if I dont do something I'm suppose to do. This way, I know I will do everything he tells me, because I dont want to let him down.
