I have my first appointment with Dr. Shina on June 11...
I met Dr. Shina yesterday...he is a very outspoken individual. Doesn't sugar coat the surgery in the least. He answered everyone's questions very throughly and I truly enjoyed the experience of meeting him and learning more about his requirements for performing the surgery.
As a side note--I had read that his staff was not very pleasant at times. On the contrary, I found everyone to be extremely helpful and wonderfully nice.

I have to tell you that Dr. Shina's office is the best!!!!... I dealt with the office manager regarding all of my calls since we "clicked" the first time we talked. I was going to have trouble scheduling my surgery because another girl in my office is having a baby. And I had to get in and have surgery and get back to work before she leaves. They were the most helpful bunch!!!

June 21st~
I am now a post-op but still have little to say about Dr. Shina's office. I have only had to call them twice regarding pain and pain meds. The first time they were very helpful. The pharmacy where I had my first prescription filled only could do a partial prescription of 36 instead of 50. So I had to call a week after I was home to get more meds. They called in something that was 3 times weaker and I have had to take more than directed to get relief. I called to get more so Ididn't run out over the weekend and they said I would have to goto the emergancy room to get . They would not call anything more in. So now I am dealing with that. I will be out of pain meds by tomorrow and will be going to Suburban to get more. Hopefully they will give me something sronger that will work with the pain in my tube.

My first appointment to get the staples out is June 26th. I will update then.

He is very direct. No if and's or but's about it ,he tells it like it is. If you can follow the rules necessary to carry this through don't even try it. Explains every thing in detail.Has a very good aftercare progran.Pays close attention to your health and every thing has to be right before he will work on you. Staff is real sweet and knowledged about surgery and process to get there.
Bedside manners I don't think so.Knowes his surgery. That what count's most.

I have made a change in plans. I have been researching the Laproscopic surgery and have found that I am too large for this procedure. I am now working with Donna Hart and Dr.Mark Shina. I have my first visit with the doctor Tuesday June 18. I have chosen Dr Shina as my surgeon and have been told he is one of the best in the business. See ya soon.....

I met Dr. MArk Shina on June 4, he was right to the point on everything he said. He told us what we could expect and what would happen. I liked the way he presented himself, very honest. He also said you must give him 24 months of your life and he will give you what you want in life. I liked that very much. He also stated you must follow his directions totally to be a success. He did scare me but also made me realize how much I really wanted to have this done. From just meeting him for my consult, I would reccommed him to anyone considering this surgery.

My first meeting with Dr Shina went well. The thing I like the best about him is he seems like he cares about his patients. I have met so many doctors who see their patients as just more money but he seems to care what happens to his patients. I have read so many posts of people on here and I agree with most, he is overworked but I am confident he is going to do a great job. I would tell everyone thinking about having this to go and see him.

I met with Dr. Shina on MAy 14, 2002. I found him to be very professional and knowledgable. He told us exactly what he expected of us and what we needed to do to make the final decision regarding the surgery. His staff was very helpful and answered many questions and provided useful information. Dr. Shina really stresses the importance of after care. I feel very confident of his skills.

I had my first appointment today, May 7, 2001 with Dr. Shina. I thought he was very informative and very considerate. I was thrilled to get this thing started. I cannot wait until I hear something from the insurance. I feel like when the surgery happens I will be in very good hands. From what I have heard and read, he is very thorough in doing everything that he possibly can to make this a safe venture for his patients. The office staff has been wonderful. I spent several days calling back and forth about getting my referral from my family Dr. and when I was leaving today, Glenna said "I will miss your phone calls" I said don't worry they will start back in about 30 days. I think he stressed the seriousness of the surgery and the risks in detail. It seems odd to rate a Dr. he is not in the olympics, but I do feel like with God and Dr. Shina, all bases are covered.

My first impression of Dr. Shina was extremely positive. He was extremely informative and positive in his approach. I had been told he was rather abrupt and brisk in his presentation but I found that not to be true. Maybe people are used to being pampered by doctors but I want the truth and the facts presented in a clear manner. This doctor does that and does it well. His staff seems very competent and able to handle most any situation presented. I liked least the fact that he is so busy. This does cause a delay in processing. I had to wait almost four months to get a initial consult. Future patients should know he is very competent and knows his profession well. His emphasis on aftercare is strenuous.....he really stresses this point, the surgery is a tool, it is up to us to utilize it correctly. He states all known risks of the surgery including his own experiences. At this time he has performed over 700 procedures. Overall I rate him very high. My belief is tha surgical competence is GREATLY desired over bedside manner.

I haven't actually met Dr. Shina yet, but have an appointment to see him June18, 2002. Most of what I've read about him has been quite positive. His office staff have been very helpful by phone so far.
