Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss Bariatric Center
I had my consultation with Dr. Shina on 12/7/99 and found him to be very nice. He was busy, and a bit hurried, but he said what had to be said and answered my questions with confidence and skill. The office staff was very nice to all of us there for the seminar & consults. They answered all questions and have an excellent aftercare program set up. I think I will be in good hands.
I had been to Dr.Shina on prior occassions for weight loss...I quit going to him after the ban on thin-thin,...by choice...then early 1999 I seen a seminar on riet-weigh and went.I did not know at that time it was Dr.Shina.That very night I made the commitment
to have the surgery done. They gave me all the paper work to fill out and the next day I made an appointment with Dr.Shina.
When I met with him he went over everything in great detail...everything that was involed and all the changes that would and will take place.
If I had to do this surgery over or had to recommend some one to preform this surgery I would highly recommend Dr.Shina...He knows his stuff!!!
he is great
First impression was that he has talked to so
many groups about the proceedure that it is like
a recording. He is very knowledgable. The
office staff were somewhat disorganized and it took
several weeks for them to get back with me
and I had to fax my insurace contract to them
5 times before they finally forwarded the
information to the person who works with
insurance agencies. I was denied by insurance
and the Dr's office was going to file an
appeal on my behalf but they decided this
would be a waste of time do to my policy
having a general exclusion in the contract.
They continue to encourage me and I am
looking to change insurance carriers. The
staff are very friendly and caring and if
I get approved to have the surgery I will
use only Dr. Shina as I have complete
confidence in him and his staff.
Dr Shina addressed all the risks and the
proceedures for the surgery and stresses that
you must follow has recommendations to make the
long term beneficial.
I have found Dr Shina to be a total professional. He is very direct and to the point. He demands that you follow his instructions fully. This is the easiest way, because his was DOES WORK!!!! His office staff is wonderful and will answer all questions quickly and pleasantly. He at first is somewhat intimidating. He is a tall, good-looking man(Tom Selleckish) who speaks very directly and deeply. He is very commanding and honest. He will tell you the risks and discuss them openly. Once you get to know him, he is a loving, caring doctor who makes sure you understand what is needed from you for success. He visited me everyday in the hosp and make follow up calls at my home during the first month post-op. He is sure to explain what to eat and exercise. he has told me that I can see him weekly if I like. His concern is my success and I have seen him monthly since surgery. I am next scheduled to see him 11/6.
My first impression of Dr. Shina was very good. I could tell that he was interested and truly supportive
of his patients. The only office staff that was there was his wife Holly, who is his nurse and leads the after-care program.
and a gentleman who works with getting the insurance approvals. I was a little a leary at first, seemed a little like a FAT factory, but that impression definately
changed as I learned more. The staff wants every patient to be very well informed and
to know that this is a change for the rest of your life and the commitments that you
have to be willing to make to do it. Dr, Shina really emphasized the after care as being just as much of the key to success as the
surgery itself. It is a very well structured program and I left feeling very comfortable with him and his staff. He encouraged questioning and really
made sure every question was answered and that everyone was clear on all aspects of this lifestyle change. He did address all the complications and risks.
I rate Dr. Shina really high and cannot wait to have my surgery performed. The only thing that bothered me was that he kept yawning all through the seminar
and I kept thinking, I ope he is not that tired when he
does my surgery!!!
I met DR.Mark Shina at his office almost 100 miles from where i live.He seemed like a caring dedicated doctor. He explained the surgery procedure very clearly and matter factly.Had my hopes up so high to have the surgery done since i weigh over 400 pounds it's hard for me to get around.Yes,I hold the fork and yes i am to blame. But i tried everything even the recent drug they removed from the market although i lost 80 pounds wthout the help of the drug my weight is back. Never been so totaly hurt in my life as tht day in Dr. Shina office .He told of the patients he would not except and they were any one that smokes or any Jehovah's Witness that will not take blood. That's his total right to do so but his tact is lacking .He cares not who he hurts i cried for hours afterward, the only reason i write this now is to save anyone else Jehovah's witness or not the humilliation he gave me.But i will not give up some other caring Doctor will take me religious beliefs and all.
