Dr Burrowes was very patient and very informative. Never once, did I feel rushed or like I was asking too many questions. He was thorough in explaining each individual surgery and what to expect. I've heard from several people that his is not very personable....well to be honest I felt he was as personable as any Dr.should be while discussing a life change surgery. There were times when we laughed and of course there were times when he got very serious. I love Dr. Burrowes. He is wonderful!! his office staff is very busy but made me feel welcome and they are very pleasant.Dr Burrowes did not talk alot on aftercare however he does have a structured aftercare program. as far as the risks....We discussed them and I feel more comfortable now than before. Overall I rate Dr Burrowes between a 1-10...a 9!! Ask me again after my surgery:) His surgical competence is a 10!!

My first impression of Dr. Celio Burrowes was excellent because he was taking care of my niece who had just had surgery and he is a hands on doctor who takes care of his patients needs himself. I think he is an excellent surgeon. My impression is still very good. His office staff is very helpful and friendly. I love the fact that he makes sure the needs of his patients are met both in the hospital and out. The only thing that I dislike about him is the $4000 fee for the fobi pouch that he has started charging recently. Future patients should know that he will take the very best care of them and their families. He emphasizes aftercare tremendously and was a great help. He addressed all the risks of surgery before I made a final decision. He let me know that death is a possibility for any surgery. I would rate him 10+ overall. He is a very caring considerate person who has your well being as his number one goal. Surgical competence is great and so is bedside manner, but it is wonderful when you have both like Dr. Burrowes exhibits.

I was referred to Dr. Burrowes from a former WLS patient of his. He was all I had heard-very professional, caring and concerned. He said this was a life-changing surgery(which I am ready for). It was a long wait for the appointment( 3 months) and a long wait in the office(2 hours). BUT it was well worth it and it helped being prepared for the wait. I waited for him because my friend is almost 2 years post-op and has not had any problems. She has lost 130 lbs. But most importantly I liked the fact that he studied under Dr. Fobi.

What was your first impression of him/her?
I thought he was through with his information.

How would you describe his/her office staff?
Very slow to return calls very unorganized.

What should future patients know about him/her? He seems to really care about the surgeries he preforms. He tends to be late but I truly believe that is just a cultural difference. Because time is not of real importance where he is from.

How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?
He stresses aftercare strongly, He wants to kow that you are making a decision you can live with.

Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? Yes

How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
Straight out bluntly. NO beating around the bush.

How would you rate him/her overall? I would prefer to wait till after my surgery to answer the remaing questions.

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside
manner, or both great?

Dr. Burrowes is a wonderful surgeon whom I have a tremendous amount of trust and admoration for. I am thankful for how thorough and meticulous he is in having you prepared for surgery. His staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly reccomend him to anyone seeking this surgery.

I was very impressed with the doctor. He spent alot of time telling me about the different surgeries. He answered all my questions without even having to ask them.

I have changed doctors due to the fact that I was not told until I was well into trying to get approval that I would have to pay upfront, out-of-pocket $4000 by Dr. J.K. Champion. I also thought that his staff was very unfriendly. I found Dr. Celio Burrowes. My first impression of him was very good. Although, he had had an emergency and was running late, he took a great deal of time with me explaining the difference in the procedure that he does, the FOBI, instead of the Lap RNY. He in no way acted impatient or rushed. His staff was friendly and seems to be competent. We shall see.

Dr. Burrowes is the best Dr. I have been to, to see about Bariatric Surgery, The first being Dr. Waites(who my friends call the quack)and Dr. Procter(who was ok, but I thought his policy about seeing the shrink first was a scam, it was not required by my insurance). Finally I decided on Dr. Burrowes. He was kind and seemed to really care about me as a person. He didn't want to just have someone to cut on. And he wasn't just after what little money I have. He really made me think about the disadvantages to the surgery(3 months out and I haven't had any problems yet). HIs office staff was helpful, and my insurance approved after 2 weeks, so I don't know what he said but it got through to them. His incision is about 4 inches long(and he took out my gallbladder too.) and the scarring is minimal. His bedside manner was great, when the nurses forgot to bring me dinner the first day after surgery he gave them a what for!!! I was only in the hospital from Friday morning and I was on my way home Sunday @ 11:00 am...
Overall he is a fantastic doctor and knowing a few people that have gone to the other two, I'm glad I chose Dr. Burrowes to perform the surgery.

Dr. Burrowes is very professional. He took his time and explained everything very thoroughly, even though I already knew most of the information due to the fact that I have been researching bariatric surgery for 3 years. He stresses the fact that this is MAJOR surgery, along with the risks involved and it is not to be taken lightly. He also stresses the fact that the surgery is just a tool in the process of weight loss. Kudos to Dr. Burrowes and his wonderfull staff. The ladies gave the same "service with a smile" that I have experienced in dealing with them over the phone. All of the patients in the office were glowing testimonials of his wonderful work. I felt like I was attending a support group meeting. I look forward to being a patient of Dr. Burrowes in the near future. The only negative aspect in this experience was having to wait so long during my initial consult, but anything worth obtaining is worth waiting for.
Well now that I am on the other side I must say that Dr. Burrowes is wonderful. He has a great bedside manner. He stresses the importance of aftercare and encourages that you attend the support group meetings. Overall I would rate him a ten.
