Celio O. Burrowes M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center

My first impression of Dr. Burrowes was somewhat cold, but over time since I have had the surgery, he is a doctor who really cares about his patients and how you are doing to get the weight off. The staff is a little slow at time, but they make sure you will have all the information needed, for your surgery.
After your surgery the doctor gives you guideline that will help you get the wait off fast ( to me). They real care about how your are feeling and is there any special needs that you have have after the surgery.
If I had to rate this doctor he would get a 8 of 10, because one the staff is a little slow and the office lobby needs some important.

He seems very knowledgeable and personable. He is very serious and seems to deeply care about people who need his help. He is very informative but leaves the decisions up to you.
His office staff are superb. They are thorough and have been very patient with me.
I feel very comfortable knowing he is going to do my surgery.
So far I would recommend him to anyone needing surgical help for weight loss.
I believe surgical competence and bedside manner are both important; however, if the surgical competence is there, they don't have to joke around with me. I'm there to receive medical attention; anything else is gravy!

My first impression of Dr. Burrowes was that he knows his business. But, I was nervous at first. I didn't change my impression of him because I had did my research on him beforehand.Dr. Burrowes office staff is wonderful. It just take so long to get a sugerical date; but he is a busy dr. He will be as open and honest with everyone. He emphasize aftercare to the extreme. He has good structure about aftercare. He address the risks of surgery to the full lenght. I would rate 9 out of 10.

Dr. Burrowes is a great doctor I would recommend him to any one who was serious about having the surgery. He was very thorough about explaining the pros/cons of the surgery and really focused on the cons, he did not paint a pretty picture nor did he allow me to have false hopes. Also Dr. Burrowes could be a seamtress because he did a great job sewing me back together and I am sure by the time I can put on a bikini the scar should be almost invisible.
My first visit to his office was a long visit but that was to be expected. I watched a video that outlined the surgery and then a video that showed Dr. Fobi performing the surgery. Dr. Burrowes talked to me about the differences in the Fobi Pouch and the Gastric RNY and the cost, the Fobi Pouch is about $4000 more and since the result in my opinion is about the same I chose what my insurance would pay for.
The only thing that comes up that I didn't agree with was, he discharged me from the hospital 2 days after the surgery, I was in no condition to be discharged I had a fever and because he removed scarred tissue during the surgery and didn't tell he did until my first offie visit, I was in an unusual amount of pain and in my opinion I needed to stay in the hospital at least another 2 days It took me at least 3 extra days to get rid of the fever and because I couldn't walk I got gas and that increased the pain.

First visit took several hours of waiting but when I met Dr. Burrowes he made me feel extremely confortable and was very knowledgable about what he does. I had alittle difficulty in finding out what was going on with the insurance and all so I had to make many phone calls to determine if I was going to be approved or not; also took time to get a surgery date. My first visit was end of May my surgery date was given in Sept for October 26th. This is a long waiting period but I know the wait is worth it !!! and I am not a patient person - be prepared to wait - however I think this is probably true with most doctors doing this type of surgery. They had a long list of patients wanting this surgery. Dr. Burrowes spent alot of time with me and my sister is discussing the surgery and in answering questions. I feel very competent in his skills as a surgeon and that along with the faith I have in God will get me through this.

My first impression of him was he was straight forward and he was really nice. I just met him today 9-5-01. His office staff was really nice as well. I met Monica and Kat. He really emphasizes aftercare. He also wants you to be sure that the surgery is really what you want to do. For me it is what I really want to do. He addressed the risks of surgery as death , which is less than if you were to stay fat. With gastric bypass he stressed that there is a chance of staple breakdown over a period of time unless you have the Fobi Pouch, and that is $4000 out of pocket expense. I rate him as a very qualified doctor and I trust my life in his hands. At this time I have nothing negative to say about him. I have scheduled my psychology exam for 9/13/01. Then from there they will schedule my other exams. The only thing that hurts the most is that if you don't have $4000 you won't get the Fobi Pouch.

7 month post surgery update - I am absolutely thrilled with my surgery. I have now lost 112 lbs., no longer take insulin/pills for diabetes. My high blood pressure is gone! My ashtma is gone. I feel like a new woman. Still have 85 lbs. to go but I am well on the way to success. I recommend Dr. Burrowes highly. Since my surgery, 2 friends have also had surgery, and my sister is scheduled for hers on Oct. 5. The Fobi Pouch operation is the most wonderful solution to obesity!

My first impression of him was that he was very reasonable and very straightforward about the procedure and what I cuold expect.
His office staff is supportive. Of course, I wish it could have progressed faster but I feel that they did it as efficiently as possible.
He covered the risks of surgery including potential of dealth.
To me, most important is surgican competence, and I feel very secure in Dr. Burrowes.
