I met Dr. Stahl on 9/3/02. I felt he was very knowledgable and very straight forward re: surgery, complications and what to expect. His staff is very efficient in handling insurance, scheduling surgery in a timely manner and responding back to you with any problems. In addition to meeting Dr. Stahl, post op I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Sherer his partner and I was every bit as impressed with him as I was with Dr. Stahl. I would recommend any physician associated with the Cahaba Valley Surgical Group. They work as a team and thats the name of the game.

Hi my name is Belinda, I'm from Cullman,AL. I had lab rny on 10/31/02 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center,Alabaster,AL. My Doctor was Dr. Richard Stahl. My first impression of Dr.Stahl was he was very friendly and made you feel that he cared for you and your health. His office staff was friendly and helpful anytime I needed to talk or get help with my Insurance approval.I especially liked susie, she was very good on getting with the insurance company and helping me out with paper work. When I returned for my 2 week post op visit I was greeted with a smile and everyone was delighted to see me and to find out how well I've done with my surgery.Dr.Stahl answered all my questions and showed me what he was going to do to me during surgery and after the surgery he was pleased how well I did and how well the surgery went. All in all I would refer Dr.Shahl to all my family and friends, and if I need any surgery's in the future I will return to him to have him do surgery on me.I also wanted to say that Shelby Baptist Medical Center Nurses where great and treated me like family and took real good care of me while I was in the hosptial.

Take care, Belinda

dr. rex sherer is going to do my surgery. i first met him on nov. 5, 2002. i was so impressed. i had some bad events that day and while in the office he spoke of god and as he was leaving he turned and said... mrs. poe, god bless you i knew then god had a hand in this situation. he went over all risk in a very detailed manner. had plenty of time for me to ask question. he had done a friend of mines surgery about 3 years ago and she had told me a little about him. his office staff has been so great also.

He was very nice. He seems as though he has the patient in mind and answers all questions you may have. Office staff was plesant. He sent a booklet that you can read over which discussed all the risk before, during and after surgery. He also emphasized on hte different procedures lap or open and what he feel may be needed.

I really liked Dr. Stahl, he was very professional and I didn't feel like I was just another meal ticket. He was very kind to my family when they were waiting during my surgery he came out quickly and told them my condition and he took his time to answer any questions they had. I wish he had a better postop support group but I had my surgery 9-14-00 and gastric bypass was still not as accepted as now. I would recommened him to anybody considering this surgery I would give him 9 out of 10.......

I didn't get to spend much time with him after waiting for almost 3 hours. I spent maybe 15 minutes talking with as he got called to an emergency surgery. It was a little frustrating because I had driven 3 hours to see him. I am going to use him because from others that have used him I think he is a good surgeon and that is the most important thing to me. I can overlook most everything as long as he does a good job during my operation. I did like the fact that he seems to be a religious man. I have a good friend that used him over a year ago and she has lost almost 130 pounds. She recommends him to everyone.
He does not have a structured aftercare program. He recommends that you get into counseling to get to the root of your food addiction which caused your obesity in the first place. He did address all the risks quite bluntly but I think that is better than trying to downplay the risks.

Ok the truth is .. as I watched him walk in the door that I knew he was going to be one of those snooty doctors who acted, like they really had better things they could be doing. Well I am hardly ever wrong in judging someone's character... BUT... LOL I have to say that once he got in the room and I gave him my full attention.. He gave me his. He was a nice man with kind eyes. He talked to me alot about how it was in Gods hands .. that he was the one mastermind behind his work and that God was the only one who held the answers. I liked how he put it.. that he was doing work but that it was Gods miracle or plan that leads his patients through the surgery.. its in his hands Dr Sherer said. We mostly talked about how it was important to be sure you could handle the ... after the surgery life changes.. And he basically told me to pray about it and then come back and talk to him. so far I like him. And I don't think that will change through out my progress. Thats all I can say for now. If you have questions , I'll be glad to answer them .. MUAH SHAE =0X

My first impression of Dr. Stahl was that he was very kind and compassionate, and I still feel that way. I had a LOT of complications after my surgery; I was in the hosp[ital for 5 weeks. So, I saw an awful lot of him. I think that he is a wonderful man and a fine surgeon.

After I finally went home from the hospital, I did see him (or the nurse) every 3 months for follow up visits. I tended to have to rely on the internet, however, for support and answering my day-to-day questions. As far as addressing the risks of surgery, I'm sure that I read something about it in the literature that I received from the office, but it would have been nice to have someone sit down with me and address concerns. I realize that the concept of a bariatric coordinator is a relatively new one, and Dr. Stahl may have one by now.

Dr. Sherer is an impressionable, friendly person, but very direct and no BS. He never tried to "sell" me on the surgery, and he carefully explained all the risks and details.

The aftercare program in not structured, but Dr Sherer and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful in the follow up visits.

I give him the highest possible rating. Surgical competence is more important than bedside manner, but Dr Sherer possesses both.

Very compassionate, reassuring, honest.
Impression hasn't changed. Office staff very nice and efficient, I understood about the wait for the visit and was well worth it.
Thought maybe the doctor was too honest, My husband now doesn't want me to have the surgery, he is afraid of losing me.
Expect pure Honesty, because that is what you will get. Dr. Sherer highly emphasizes after care with labs, follow up visits and participation in skilled support groups.
Focused alot on the risks of surgery. A very knowledgeable, compassionate and humble physician knowing that God is the one ultimately in control. Surgical competence and bedside manner definitely qualify in my expectations, you just hear about those who don't do well with the surgery from people you know and that makes one weary.
