I had an appt. with Dr. Rex Sherer in Alabaster on 9/25. He seemed very concerned
as a person and doctor. He said this was not
a "quick fix". This will be a life changing
surgery. He wanted to make sure I was ready
and I assured him I was. I had a long sheet of questions to ask him but he answered each
one before he asked me if I had any questions. Dr. Sherer told me that they
have been blessed with all of their surgeries. I believe he is a Christian man
and I have faith that he will do a fine job.

I really like Dr. Stahl. After reading other entries about him, I was expecting someone who was very blunt and to the point. He was very professional but also very kind. The office staff was friendly and efficient. It took 3 months to get my appointment but once I got there, I went right in and was out in about an hour. It took my insurance company (BC/BS) only 1 week to approve my surgery. My surgery is scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2003!!!!

Dr.Richard Stahl is young and very informative. I was very happy from the beginning and never had any doubts about him. I got on the internet and checked who in Alabama was on the Bariatric Board. Dr. Stahl and his partner are the only two on the American Board of Bariatric Surgeons in Alabama. To trust a doctor with your life and change your life forever for you is saying something. I was trully at peace with him and he is awesome. If in doubt about this surgery he would erase it and I have not looked back . Dr. Stahl is GREAT!!!!!!

Dr. Stahl was very informative Made me fell very relaxed.

I still fell the same way as i did when i first met him.

Office staff was very helpful.

Emphasized alot what to expect and what i should do
Yes

Right up front he said that there are risks and people do die.
I think he is very good at what he does and he cares about his patients.
I think a good doctor should be very compentant in or and have a good bedside manner. When patients count own their doctors they need them 100 0/0.

First impression: Professional, short and to the point, serious, informative.

Impressions have not changed.

Have only been to his office one time. Staff did a good job communicating with me following insurance approval, and scheduling of surgery.

Dr. Stahl was very thorough in explaining the surgery and all of the possible risks.

I would give him an "A" grade. Surgical competence seems second to none.

I had to wait 2 months just to see him for a consult. This really didn't bother me, since I am so ANAL about getting my paperwork in order. That 2 months was helpful, because by the time I got all of my medical records together it was almost exactly 2 months! Since I have been a RN for 20 years, it doesn't bother me if a doctor isn't all mushy and smiling when he is talking with you. I would rather have the facts and a great reputable surgeon. I had heard great things about Dr. Stahl and his staff. He was professional and although I was well informed, he did answer every question I had without feeling like I was rushed. I spent almost 2 hours talking with him and his PA. I hope post-op care will be as good!

My initial consultation with Dr. Stahl was on December 2, 2002.
He explained the risks and benefits of the surgery. I told him that I had done so much research on the internet and I knew about the surgery and it's risks.
He still went through the explaination of the pouch and how the stomach would change and how little I would be able to eat. He also emphasized the risks that are involved in having the surgery. Went over how much I could expect to loose.
I was impressed with Dr. Stahl. I've read alot of comments from others about Dr. Stahl. The way I explain it is that he is professional with his presentation. That's really all I expected. I decided on Dr Stahl because of his reputation and surgical competence.
His office staff was great. The waiting room had several different widths of chairs. Since the paperwork was already submitted, all I had to go was to give them my insurance cards and my drivers license for them to copy. I waited about 30 minutes and then I was called.
My weight and height was taken and I was put in the exam room to await Dr. Stahl
It was all a pleasant experience.

I heard about Dr. Sherer from a friend of mine at church who had the surgery done by him. I called to get the info packet. I was surprised at how quickly it arrived. My wife and I sat down and read through it, then filled it out. I was impressed with the info packet. It gave a lot of the risk and wanted to let the person know everything about this surgery before even applying. We decided to go ahead and mail the packet in.

It was only about 2 weeks and we got a call from Dr. Sherer's office to schedule an appointment. The appointment was set and now all I had to do was wait.

My appt. was on 10/10 in the morning. I went up and my wife was going to meet me there. The first thing I noticed was that there were oversized chairs in the waiting room. I was impressed. I did have to wait awhile, even after my scheduled time.

When I got called back, my wife was able to join us. I was weighed in by a nurse, then taken to an exam room. She took my blood pressure and asked a few questions. Then she told me that Dr. Sherer would be in shortly.

It wasn't over 5 minutes before he came in. I noticed that he seemed to be serious looking. He introduced himself and then we got down to business.

Dr. Sherer was very honest with my wife and I about the dangers of the surgery, but also the dangers of not taking care of my obesity.
We only talked for about 15 - 20 minutes, but he answered all our questions.

As we left, a nurse took us to the check out desk. The receptionst there told us what would happed next.

His whole office staff was pleasant and helpful. I would recommend Dr. Sherer to anyone considering this operation.
