I really am very happy with Dr. Hong. I met him first in the informational session and he was kind and approachable. Today I had my consult and again I was very impressed with his knowledge, openess, skills and bedside manner. He is so easy to talk to and makes you feel like he has as much time as you need.
Sheri, the office manager, is great. Went out of her way to get my chart and an appointment for me.
Everthing was EXCELLENT today.

Dr. Hong left me with a feeling of extreme confidence. He visited me during my stay at the hospital and chatted regarding my recovery. I found that so helpful.

I met with Dr. Kosta on 9/16/03. He seems to be a caring surgeon, but he's a little brusk and wanted to do most of the talking. I found it interesting that he asked me questions that he knew the answers to in order to gauge how honest I was and how well I knew myself.

I really liked his nurse, Christopher. He was pleasant and kind and funny. A nice complement to Dr. Kosta.

He explained the surgery pretty well, although I knew almost all the things he went over. We talked about the chances of bleeding and alternatives to blood transfusions if needed (JW).

We didn't get too deeply into the aftercare, because I will need to make another appointment with him closer to when I schedule surgery. I won't be able to schedule surgery until Jan. 04, so we'll talk more later.

I have Dr. Moiel now. He is the chief of surgery at Kaiser Sunnyside in Portland, OR. He started the bariatric surgery program. I've seen him 5 or 6 times and each time he has been friendly but very adamant that he wants his patients to have the best chance for success and so he is very particular about who he operates on. I've struggled for 8 months to get through the hoops to finally get a date again. It's 8/30/04. I hope everything goes smoothly and well. I'm nervous.

Now I'm going to the Oregon Obesity Institute and have Dr. Dennis Hong. I like him. He seems very personable and interested in helping people be successful at weight loss surgery.

I'm grateful for the education I have received from Kaiser, but their program could use some sensitivity training.

My first impression of Dr Hong was a good one. He is very soft spoken and knowlegable.

The office staff was very helpful and extremely pleasant to talk to.

My opinion didn't change. He is great!

There wasn't anything I didn't like about him.

Aftercare is very important as this is not going to work without total commitment, he has a strict aftercare guideline to follow.

Risks were explained very well. Not scary, but very matter of fact.

Overall, I thought he is a great and experienced in what he does.

Both bedside and surgical competence were both great. I would most likely have looked elsewhere if either of these things were poor.

I feel like I owe Dr Hong the world. He has helped me to become a new person and I appreciate everything that he has done. I don't think that I can really say enough great things about him and his staff. He has a great bedside manner and is willing and ready to help in anyway he can.

Dr Hong spent about an hour speaking with my sister and I. He never appeared rushed or like i was wasting his time. He treated both of us as equals. I was very impressed by his approach and honesty. He was very upfront about what his opinion was and what he felt i should do. I thought he was awesome. I felt he totally new what he was doing and I am ready to put my life in his hands.

His office staff is awesome as well. The only trouble i have had is getting them to call me in regaurds to needed paper work and keeping things moving. I do realize that i am 1 of probably hundreds who want them to keep things moving, but i have been overly patient. Keep on them when you want stuff to happen.

Dr. Hong is a fabulous surgeon. Very personable and knowledgeable. He took time with me individually, even looked at my children's photo's as I explained to him how important it was for him to do a good job!
I have gained more and more respect for him with every visit.
The office staff have been very supportive and helpful and get to know you by name.
I really have nothing, at this point, to negatively say, possibly because I am so new into the program. All I know is that he met all my expectations. He saw me both days in the hospital, he's been available to me at any point, so far so good. He has been available to me every time I've called on him.
That he can be trusted to do an excellent job and to support you when you are finished. He is a very strong supporter of after care in terms of making sure you visit the office and dietician and he's available via phone if you should have more questions.
Yes, he has a structured aftercare program.
He spoke to me very plainly about the risks, that they are real, but that the statistics are such and such. He was very open to the questions I asked him about himself, what his education was, what his experience was, what his mortality rate was, why he would even choose this type of surgery in the first place and so on. He didn't get agitated once, just answered it all.
On a scale of 1-10 I give him a 10 for sure.

DR HONG SEEMED EASYGOING AND LAID BACK WHEN I FIRST MET HIM. HE HAD A FRIENDLY PERSONALITY AND IS NOT TOO STUFFY. HE WAS VERY MATTER OF FACT ABOUT THE PROCEDURE I WOULD UNDERGO AND VERY SURE OF HIMSELF. THE OFFICE STAFF AT THE CLINIC WERE ALL FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE FOLLOW UP CARE AFTER SURGERY AND DR HONG EMPHASIZES THIS BEFORE OFFERING LAPBAND SURGERY. THE RISKS AS WELL AS THE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF THE PROCEDURE WERE MADE VERY CLEAR TO ME BEFORE SURGERY. I AM GLAD I CHOSE DR HONG. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS DOCTOR TO SOMEONE ELSE. I GIVE DR HONG A 10!!!
