Gary Anthone, MD, FACS Organization
I first was referred to Dr. Anthone by my family physician. I attended his monthly seminar and was very impressed that he was totally understanding of people being overweight. I did a lot of reading, and put a lot of thought into the decision of surgery. When I felt it was right for me I made my appointment to talk with Dr. Anthone. He was very professional, very easy to talk to and made me feel that I would do very well with the surgery. I am looking forward to working with him and his staff.
I was impressed with him at the seminar and even more so at my consult but after I went to the seminar again with a friend I'm more impressed with him. He's personable and is very knowledgble about DS, an expert in the field and that's what I want. Christie and Kathy, his office staff are great. They may not remember my face but they remember my name and my case. The face will come later. Oh, I went to the seminar a third time (I think I could do it for him lol) I would suggest that if you are not having surgery for some time keep going to the seminars. They give you the best information and you can get those questions that you didn't think of before answered. He's also been great about the apeal process. He filed the appeal before I even get a call made to the office. If there was any thing that I thought was negitive was the first appointment he seemed kind of distant. I later found out he had a patient in critical care. It explained to me why he seem preoccupied.
11-28-05 new info. I had a second level appeal and Dr A went with me to it. The chairman said that Dr A is the only surgeon that comes to the appeals and that they really think highly of him as well. Oh, and I won the appeal.
I have an appointment for an initial consultation on September 20, 2005. Since my insurance is Medicare with AFLAC as my Medicare Supplement, there won't be any need for pre-approval. I'm anxious to meet with Dr. Anthone. Christy in his office has been so very nice and helpful!
I've had over 30 surgeries so far (5 on right hip, one on left; multiple carpal tunnel surgeries; rotator cuff repair; fusion of one joint in foot; two knee scopes, among others), but's going to be very strange having surgery so far away from home, so I'm a little nervous about the whole thing.
Dr. Anthone is WONDERFUL! He is very nice and talks to you like an equal. He is very experienced and his results are proof. He has great bedside manner and is easy to talk to. I would recommend him to EVERYONE.
Dr. Anthone has been performing this type of surgeries since the 80's. He have lots of experiences and knows how to prevent and discuss with patient the site effect of GBP surgeries. He is gentle, informative and very helpful. He is caring and believe very much in the psychiatric/psychological evaluation front aspect before the surgery. He always want to make sure that the patient and the family understant the outcome that is associated with this. He refer you to a nutritionist and recommand you to work very closely with her/his even after 9 years. He gave me his caring attention at every yearly check up/follow up which he insist on and in very understanding. He did my hernia surgery in 1999 and was gentle, caring and very attentive to all of my needs. Maria, his assistant, came in every day sometime 2X to check on me while I was at the hospital, to make sure that I was well taking care of, and of course he came & check on me also. I felt special and very well caring for. Nurses on the hospital staff who had the surgery before me, came also to see me and make sure that I was OK. All this care and attention does mean a lot to me. If I am to do this surgery over again, I will fly to Nebraska and I will only allow Dr. Anthone and his staff to take care of me. Considering the pain and the disconfort and the suffering associated with this big surgery, they did there best to show me how much they care, and that mean a lot to me. I owe my life, and good health to Dr. Anthone. I wish I had this GBP surgery done in my 20's. Thank you Dr. Anthone.

I "met" Dr. Anthone for the first time last night. My husband and I were very impressed. Not only does he have great education & experience, but he seems genuinely ethical. I have gotten the impression from some of the Dr's sites that they are SOLELEY in this for the money, and that they will take very little interest or even special precautions for their mealtickets... er, patients. Dr. Anthone began by clearly, and I believe sincerely, stating that he was *type of surgery or any surgery for that matter, nor was he going to try to convince us to choose him as our Dr. He just wanted to give us a chance to be educated. He spent *much* more time making the risks of surgery clear than he did on explaining the benefits. He also was very good about saying things with "bigger", more professional language, and then immediately simplifying his words, so that no one was left feeling confused or stupid. He also spent just as much time answering questions as he did lecturing. I look forward to talking with him one-on-one.
I was extremely impressed with Dr. Anthone's credentials and somewhat worried that he would not have a good bedside manner. However to my surprise Dr. Anthone is very down to earth and easy to talk to. He answers ALL of his calls after hours and he is genuinely insterested in the overall health of each one of his patients.
The office staff is awesome! From the receptionist down to the nurses. They all know you by name via the phone or if you're walking into the office. I really appreciated the idea of Dr. Anthone making a part of his team a nurse who actually went through the procedure. Denise knows what we are going through because she has been there.
There's NOTHING that I like least about Dr. Anthone. You can tell that he really loves what he is doing. Future patients should do a thorough check on the surgeon that they would like to perform their procedure. Once you have decided on Dr. Anthone, you will not regret it.
As stated above, Dr. Anthone is very much so focused on the overall health of his patient and that would include the aftercare. He wants to make sure you're taking in enough fluids, as well as protein, vitamins, and calcium. He will even ask you to come in the office so that he can actually see you to make sure you're doing ok even by appearance.
We outweighed the risks of the procedure and it actually was not performed until he felt that I could endure the surgery.
Overall, Dr. Anthone is an excellent physician and I look forward to following up with him in the many years to come. They broke the mold when they made him.
Dr. Anthone's surgical competence was never an issue and his bedside manner turned out to be great. He's an easygoing individual that I am proud to have as part of my medical team!
Dr. Anthone's seminar was very informative. From my first meeting with Dr. Anthone you can tell he compassionate and willing to answer any questions you might have.
He is one of the most intelligent and caring individuals I have ever met. He made me feel welcomed and cared for. I spoke with him briefly last year and still had the same impression. What an awesome human being!
Maria was his assistant at the time and she was a sweetheart too. Not quite the bedside manner that Dr. A has, but still a amazing person.
I could not say anything bad about Dr. A. He was always patient and kind with me, explaining the process in great detail and answering any questions I had.
I would rate Dr. A as one of, if not THE BEST, doctor I have every visited. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both unmatched.
I really could not think of anything negative to say. I realize no one is perfect, but in all my interaction with him, I never had a single bad experience or thought.
