Gary Anthone, MD, FACS Organization
Very understanding and compassionate. His office staff is also very knowledgeable, understanding and compassionate. Dr. Anthone was upfront about everything. From benefit to risk. I could not have made a better choice in a surgeon. His office is very busy and getting a hold of someone seemed hard to do at times but email was always answered in a timely manner. I've heard other stories about other offices and Surgeons but I did what i was told to do, when I was told to do it and I didn't have any problems. My biggest problem seemed to be getting all the pre-op testing results back to the Surgeons office.
My first impression of Dr. Anthone was good, he seemed very sympathetic. I have only grown to appreciate and respect Dr. Anthone more since my surgery. I see him, want to run to him, hug him, and thank him for saving my life!
His staff has been very helpful to me during this time, although they are EXTREMELY busy.
Future patients need to be patient with his staff and understand that they are doing the best that they can do.
Dr Anthone puts great emphasis on aftercare.. ie: taking vitamins, healthy diet, and excercise program.
I think Dr. Anthone is a superior doctor and I would recommend him to my closest of friends!
I think that both his surgical competence and bedside manner are excellent!!!!!
Dr. Anthone is a knight in a white coat. Never judgemental, always supportive, honest beyond belief. No bull with this doc. Never had a moment of doubt once I met him and his wonderful staff.
I cant say enough good things about Dr Anthone. I went to three different doctors to get information on the different bypass. And I knew that Dr Anthone was the Doctor I wanted to perform my surgery. He was knowledgeable, friendly, warm and sincere. My second meeting with him was the same. I have full confidence in him and his staff to help make this lifechange a successful one for me. His office staff is very busy. I think you need to have patience and you will get you questions answered. He went over all the pro and con during his orientation and it was very informative.
Loved Dr. Anthone
impresssion the same so far. I have heard good things about him from former patients.
liked everything about Dr. Anthone
other patients should know how nice he is
he did emphasize you need emotional support
I am trying to find out now about aftercare-I emailed his nurse.
He said I am high risk because of diabetes.
I would give him an A.
I hope for both.
Dr. Anthone is a very caring and kind person. Hetakes great lengths to insure the saftey of his patients and to reassure them throughout the process. His has a large team of doctors and nurses all who care for the patients together like a big family. My experience at USC will always be an important memory of kindness, loving, medical professionals.Dr. Anthones office is very busy hard to get a hold of, most likly because the amount of time spent at the hospital on patient care. In cases of an emergency they are extremely prompt!! I loved everything about my doctors. They were kind, caring, gentle, honest, and funny. The aftercare continues with Dr. Anthone and Maria every three weeks for a year. This is a must and they make it possible to continue to see them if problems occur with insurance by offering a very reasonable low cost office visit. It is very obvious that Dr. Anthones main concern is the patient!! Everything is explained greatly every detail covered and easy to understand. I look forward to seeing Dr. Anthone and Maria again. They are very warm and tender people.
Dr. Anthone is a very caring and compassionate professional. He listened and heard what I had to say. I hold him in the highest regard with even more respect and admiration since the surgery. I have felt a growing closeness with Maria, who I believe is in the perfect position to fully use her patient service skills.
At first, I felt frustrated having to wait 3 months for an appointment and then having to wait additional time while in constant pain from gallstones. Once the administrators at Perot Systems were involved, the scheduling was swift. Only the patient knows how they feel and if they don't verbalize these things to the office staff then they can't know. Dr. Anthone told me on my June 10th visit that he wanted to do surgery within the next 2 weeks due to my symptoms. Had the lines of communication not been kept open then I may have had to wait until August 28 to have surgery. As it progressed, I had surgery July 12th. Don't be afraid to speak for yourself and to share information that was discussed between you and the doctor. The staff can always speak with the doctor and verify the information if necessary.
Aftercare at home at this point is focused on food. Avoidance of carbonated beverages, alcohol, fats/fatty food and foods processed with high sugar. With those exceptions, anything else is fine. Eat slow and small portions, chew thoroughly and relax.
I had my surgery with Dr. Gary Anthone at USC. He was WONDERFUL!! Very caring. Kind. Funny, but not so silly that it took away from his professionalism.
My only complaints are about the lack of communication from the staff. A wonderful, but extreemly overworked staff. Very caring people, but they just aren't good with follow up. You have to really stay on them to get what you need pre op. At this point I'm only 2 weeks post, but I've noticed that the response time post op is much quicker.
I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Anthone for the Gastric Bypass with Duodenal Switch.
Dr. Anthone and his staff have been incredibly supportive. Informative and kind.
I went to his seminar which was really informative and explained not only his preferred procedure but the LAP and Gastric Banding as well. I then got an appointment with him on Dec. 10, 2001. It took almost 3 months to get insurance approval but I got it and then I was scheduled for all the pre op tests. They were INCREDIBLY thourough and I had great care at University Hospital where I will be going for the big day. I will have my surgery on May 22, 2002 and am thrilled and scared.
Dr. Anthone has informed me of all the risks and suggested a support group as well as online support. So I have a clinic with him tomorrow and was told by his nurse Maria to bring my questions with me. at 7:00 AM!!! I will write more tomorrow and tell you how the preop meeting goes.
Overall these have been caring wonderful people even if the wait has been difficult.
This is so far been my experience. I can only speak for myself so until next time..... can't wait to dance on the other side!!!!
My first impression of Dr. Anthone was that he seemed to really care about giving his patients ALL of the info. - the good and the bad (meaning the possible risks). He had answers to all of my questions and did not try to sugar coat things which was very hard at the time but looking back now...was very valuable. My first impression of him only grew stronger during the time right after my surgery, my time in the hospital and my follow-up care. I am completely convinced that I could not have had a better surgeon! Dr. Anthone has made it possible for me to have an incredible new, happy life, and for this I could never say enough about him, his staff or their abilities. Maria (his nurse in charge) is a very busy woman, so she doesn't have a lot of time for hand holding you before your surgery....but that's only because she's doing it for all their patients in the hospital and post-op. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else by my side...when you go through something as serious as this you need to know that your doctor and nurse know what they are doing and your health and comfort are their no. 1 priority...and I was sure of this.
