University Hospitals Hospital
Overall, I think the hospital was very good. Nearly all of the staff were great. One or two bad experiences but most were great. I had a complication the night of the surgery - I stopped breathing for some yet undetermined reason (pain medication possibly). Anyway, I am here today only because they happened to check on me shortly after I stopped breathing. So I would suggest that the hospital change their procedures to put post-op patients on some type of electronic monitoring system that would sound an alarm if patient is in trouble. It is very scary to think that I am here mostly due to luck....
I was very pleased with the facility. I had a private room with enough space for my husband to have a cot. When the door was closed it was very quiet and private.
The staff was exceptional!! The majority of the nurses I came in contact with were amazing! They were so kind and attentive. They went the extra mile and never thought twice about it. I have nothing but good things to stay about all the hospital staff I came in contact with. The hospital was the best I've ever been in and there isn't a staff at any other hospital I've been in that can even come close to the staff at University Hospital.
I felt at ease with Dr. Khaitan, she was comfortable to talk with. Everyone Emory has been wonderful. They are all so friendly and everyone smiles it makes you happy to be there. Aftercare is very important in the program. They want you to be fully prepared before the surgery and provide you with the information and training to make sure you are. The after care program is structured any they urge you to strictly follow it for a healthy recovery. Since I had gone through another very unorganized and unprofessional program (I left before the surgery) before I came to Emory, I know that Emory and the doctors are some of the best out there.
I first met Dr. Khaitan at the initial group consultation at Emory Hospital. She was very pleasant, seemed to be very knowledgeable about bariatric surgery and the procedures involved. She was willing to answer any questions and conserns I had. She told me the risks about the surgery and the importance of aftercare. I have had no further contact with Dr. Khaitan at this point. I will update as necessary.
THE FIRST TIME I MET DR. KHAITAN, IT WAS AT THE GROUP CONSULTATION THAT EMORY HOSPITAL HELD IN APRIL. SHE SEEMED TO BE A VERY CAPABLE INDIVIDUAL AND SHE IS ALSO FROM MY HOME TOWN-SO THAT WAS AN ADDED BONUS. THE MAIN REASON WHY I CHOSE TO GO WITH HER AT FIRST WAS BECAUSE DR. SMITH (HEAD OF BARIATRICS AT EMORY) WAS ALL BOOKED UP AND I JUST WANTED TO GET IN THE FASTEST WAY I COULD. BUT I MUST SAY, MEETING WITH DR. KHAITAN FOR MY FIRST CONSULTATION (5/12/03), SHE WAS NICER THAN I COULD HAVE IMMAGINED AND VERY EDUCATED AND HELPFUL IN DESCRIBING THE PROCEDURE....IT SEEMS AS THOUGH HER EASY GOING PERSONALITY WILL HELP ME GET OVER ANY GITTERS I MAY HAVE. ALL OF THE STAFF HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL SO FAR AND VERY COMPSSIONATE. IT'S WEIRD TO HAVE ONE PERSON SEEM TO GENUINELY CARE ABOUT MY PROBLEMS WITH OBESITY, LET ALONE A WHOLE OFFICE!-THANKS GUYS!
I was very impress with Dr. Khaitian when I first met her. She sat down with my husband and I and discussed my surgery and told me she thought I was a great candiate for the surgery. She made the time to answer in and all questions that I has. During my EGD she was very polite and sweet and she gave me mother updates about me on the day. I have some more test to complete before the surgery but I am sure I will be met with same kindness. She has not emphasized after care that much since I am still waiting on a surgery date. She did mention a risk to the surgery and urged me not to gain any more weight. I would urge anyone to go to Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia becuase so far they are very nice except for one nurse in the GI Services. I would like my doctor to have both a bedside manner and know what she is during in the operation room, but if I have to choose one or the other I would want her to be at the top of her field in the operation room.
I really like her. At first I had the impression she was a little stand-offish. But after meeting with her on 3 different appts, I reallly like her. The office staff she works with at Emory are wonderful. Debbie couldnt be nicer, even if she doesnt remember your face, she knows your name. Dr. Khaitan really stresses getting in as good of shape as you can before the op, and really takes the time to make sure you understand how important it is to STOP SMOKING, she will not do op if you smoke. The blood gas test lets her know if you have been in the last 30 days or so.... Overall I would say she is wonderful wonderful wonderful and I am very happy that things did not work out for me to go to Titus Duncan. TO me it is more important for her to know whats going on and how to do things that to be funny/witty/ ect; however she is both.
