University Hospitals Hospital
She was a great surgeon. Very caring and understanding. Did not make me feel stupid for asking a hundred questions. She was very highly skilled. The office staff was amazing. Just expect to spend several hours for each visit. Dr. Khaitan and her team were very organized and professional. She emphasized dieting and exercise before surgery. She also kept track of whether or not you were taking your vitamins. The bariatric center at Emory was very through and complete. Again the biggest complaint I have is the amount of wait time at appointments.
What a wonderful Dr.!!! I have admiration and faith in her ability as a surgeon. My first impression of her was that of geniune concern. I followed her orders (granted...not as well as well as I should have because I had alot of "last" moments!) and she has been supportive the entire way. Dr. Khaitan, at one point, actually challenged me and I have to say, at first, I was very angry with her but that changed over the course of the day to respect. She had heard that I had stopped taking one of my meds awhile back and she bluntly asked me, "Why should I think that you are going to do well with this surgery if you cannot follow your meds?" There is, of course, a story behind the med situation, which she heard, but I was grateful to her that she would step out of her comfort zone and ask me such a question. The office staff of the bariatric main office is another story. Too much to write. Just be sure to stay on top of them. But, on the other hand, her personal staff was wonderful! Jacqueline (her office asst.), Elizabeth (her P.A.), and her nurse are great people that take their jobs seriously. Dr. Khaitan and her staff are definite a referral from me. Aftercare is mentioned and emphasized many times by ALL of her staff! I was impressed that even Jacqueline, her office asst., knew so much information to guide me in as many areas as she did! They give you many packets of info about how to eat so you can never say that you "never knew." The emphasized all the risks of surgery, as any dr. should do. But, I also suggest doing your own research. This website is a great source of info that I learned many tips from! My rating of Dr. Khaitan: a definite 10! The only thing I wish Dr. Khaitan would strive for is a better hospital to perform the surgeries.
I traveled to Atlanta to Emory at Crawford Long to meet with Dr. Khaitan. I must say that I was very impressed with her staff. I did not have to wait long and my total appointment took only 1 hour. The secretaries were so sweet. I meet with the PA and she did a look over of my situation. She listened to my heart and talked with my husband and I. Then we saw Dr. Khaitan. She was so sweet. She calmed all my husband's fears and answered all my questions with such patience. She gave me three instructions. 1. Exercise beginning now. 2. Cut out all carbonated drinks. 3. Take a Flinstone vitiaman everyday. I turned in all my paperwork and they will send it to the insurance company tomorrow. We know that Cigna will reject the request. I just hope they do it fast. Then they will automatically send it to my husbands insurance, my secondary insurance which is United HealthCare. They will cover the surgery. So, the wait game begins.
I met Dr. Khaitan briefly at the orientation session conducted by Emory. She is pleasant and knowledgeable. I again met with her with the submission of my paperwork. Her P.A. conducted most of the appointment with her coming in the last few minutes for a quick check. She emphasized starting daily exercise and taking vitamins now prior to the surgery.
I have never met personally with the group at Emory Bariatrics yet. I've spoken with several women in the office who are helping with the processing of my insurance request for precertification. They are pleasant, but I don't feel they have been very pro-active on my behalf. I have to stay on them constantly to get anything done. Their office held my paperwork for about 6 weeks before it finally was submitted to BCBS. But I don't have anything to compare it with, so maybe this is "standard operating procedure."
I am impressed with Emory's comprehensive program, including several sessions with the nutritionist prior to, during, and after surgery.
I had my first appt with Dr. Khaitan yesterday and thought she was so wonderful. She didn't make me feel bad about the situation. She really streesed lifestyle changes before surgery which is great. Her staff was wonderul from the PA to the secretary. I feel very confidence in her ability and she really won my play mom over which is very hard to do. I would rate her a 9 and that's being very truthful.
