The staff were very caring and very supportive of me and my ordeal. All of the special, little things that came up in response to other things were taken care of immediately. All of the things unique to me were addressed with no problem and happily. I was sorry to go home and that they had days off. I was entirely grateful

I really only had one bad experience here and it was the day after my surgery when I was scheduled to go down to X-ray for my barium swallow, to make sure I didn't have any leaks. It was pretty painful having to go back and forth between the hospital bed to the gurney to the X-ray table then standing up on the X-ray table! Then back to the gurney and then back to hospital bed. But the pain was expected, I knew it would be unpleasant. The really bad part was that I was on some sort of Morphine (i think) pump that I could push this button every 10 minutes for another dose of pain meds. Well the bad part was, after my X-ray they stuck me in the hall and told me to wait for a tech to come down and get me and take me back to my room. I was already hurting from all the transfers but the worst part was the X-ray tech forgot to give me back my morphine button! I stayed in the hallway waiting for about 40 minutes without any pain meds! Trying to get anyones attention walking by was next to impossible. So needless to say that by the time I got back to my room I was in some serious pain. After I got up to par on my button pushing everything was okay. I blame it all on the X-ray tech. My stay other than this one instance was great though! And overall I would rate Swedish Medical as an Excellent hospital and I would highly recommend it to anyone having this surgery. Oh one more thing I have to give them credit for, I happen to find someone on this website having surgery the same day, same doc, and same hospital as me a while back and started emailing her. Turned out she was scheduled for surgery right before me and we thought it was a long shot but worth a try to ask for the same room in the hospital. I talked to them when I went for my pre-op testing the week before surgery and the girl in Admissions wrote both our names down and said she would pass it on to the nurses who do the room assignments and that she didn't think it would be a problem. To make a long story short, THEY GAVE US THE SAME ROOM! That was such a bonus! We got to talk and compare notes throughout our hospital stay and even had the same nurses a couple of days. After we got off the pump and on to our crushed percocets we would even remind eachother when we were due for our meds. It was great and I recommend it to anyone who can. I mean I would much rather be in a room with someone who was going through the same thing than with an 88 year old grandma who just had a hip replaced. Okay, I'm done rambling. I wish you all the best in your journeys!

Laurel

The majority of the staff was quite knowlegable about this surgery. However... the kitchen would not send up the right food for me and I had to always ask for SF jello. They even brought an entire regular meal to me once... it was toture!! HAHA kidding I had NO DESIRE to eat anything at all. All in all it was a good hospital with good care. But my advice is to ALWAYS be educated in the procedures you are having done AND ASK QUESTIONS as you go along so you are certain about the care you are suppose to be receiving and you can be sure you are getting the right treatment.

Very busy hospital, I had to wait in recovery for several hours before they had a bed for me. Once I got there, I had the roommate from hell, so the nurses moved me to another room without me even asking to be moved. They were concerned that I wasn't getting enough rest. I was happy about that! There was one nurse tech that really upset me, but the rest of the staff was great and attentive! They weren't too quick at answering my button, which is okay...just glad I wasn't dying!! LOL!
