Surgical Weight Loss at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital
I had to spend the first night in ICU and it was an absolute nightmare. The night nurse wouldn't let me get up to use the bathroom even though the nurse who was there when I came out of surgery encouraged me to get up. The night nurse said it would be "easier" if I would just use the bedpan. I found out later that she had my IV up too high, so I having to go every couple of hours. Every time I called her, she would make me wait 5 to 15 min before getting me the bedpan and then when I was done, she would make me sit on the used bedpan for the same amount of time. I could see her from my bed sitting at the desk doing paperwork; she just didn't want to be bothered with me.
Once I was out of ICU, I couldn't have received better care. I still had to have help every few hours going to the bathroom as I needed to be unhooked, but not one of the nurses made me feel like I was a burden. They all had a lot of bariatric surgery patient experience and completely understood what I was going through. If you are having surgery and don't have to be in ICU, I would definitely recommend this hospital.
The nursing staff was good to excellent. Mandy made my stay especially good. She has a tremendous bedside manner. Her presence alone is very soothing. Add to that thay she is an excellent nurse...I was very pleased! Some of the staff could improve in their responsiveness to the call button. Other than that I am happy with my choice.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of care given to me at this hospital. From the admitting clerk to the nurses, my care was excellent. I did not have one bad experience with anyone at the hospital. The lab staff, respiratory therapists, RN's, CNA's, etc were all wonderful, helpful, and had smiles for me. I would highly recommend this hospital. My only complaint would be the noise level is a bit high, but nothing that closing the door wouldn't handle.
Overall everything was okay but I had a day nurse in the intensive care unit that was terrible, she only had two patients to care for. I know this becasue I asked her. Well anyway she wouldn't bath me or get me up to walk. And the therapist would not help me with exercise or massage. I have Fibromyalgia and it was hard to do this on my own. I did tell the doctore before hand about my Fibromyalgia and that I would need extra care.
Dr. LePort was fabulous! He answered all my questions very honestly. His staff is excellent. He made me feel very at ease. He addressed all risks of the surgery...ALL of them, and made sure I understood everything that he said.
The program at Smart Dimesions is great. It was very thorough and professional. His aftercare program is great. The office has support groups weekly and can help with any problem big or small.
The day before my surgery I was notified that my surgeon couldn't perform my operation. Dr. LePort offered to do it instead and made sure that I felt completely comfortable with him and switching surgeons so late in the process.
I would recommend this office and all the staff.
