Ascension St. Vincent - Carmel Bariatrics Hospital
Fabulous surgeon! Can't say enough wonderful things about this woman! Definitely a life changer!! LOVE HER!
I really liked Dr. Inman. She seems to be a very caring person and extremely knowledgable. I have always been comfortable visiting with her and the staff. They don't seem to pass judgement and understand that we are not always perfect. She loves the idea of people staying with the support groups for that added help. I really didn't have any questions because everything was pretty much addressed in the pre-op seminar (which she did). She stressed the importance of taking care of yourself and let you know her success rate for surgeries and the complications/risks that could happen.rnrnGreat doctor/surgeon!
The nurses were excellent. One of them had had bariatric surgery several years ago and it was nice to talk to her about her experience. The unit was a bariatriac unit so all the nurses are very experienced with taking care of bariatric patients and everything is specifically made for bariatric patients. Excellent care.
I liked Dr Evanson from the moment I met him. He was very straighforward and answered my questions about lapband vs roux en y very honestly. I had already read many studies about them and knew the roux was better but he also gave me other reasons why roux was a better choice for me personally. If you're looking for lots of hand holding you probably won't get it from him, but I think surgical competence is the most important thing. He was great at the bedside but again not touchy feely which I prefer anyways. I would give him a 10/10.
When I first met Dr Diaz during the initial consult I was impressed. He appeared very knowledgable. He seemed to really care about his patients as individuals. He drew diagrams and explained the procedures very well. He did not hesitate to tell the risk involved but balanced it well by reminding us of our risk of remaining obese. He was very patient and welcomed questions.rnrn When he came in to talk to me prior to my surgery he quickly put me at ease. He has a very quite and unhurried type of personality. Since surgery my opinion of Dr Diaz has only improved. He continues to show the same qualities I noticed in the beginning. rnrn At the end of the first week I was having a very difficult time getting enough fluids. He quickly sent me over to the ER for an outpatient admit to get some IV fluids. He explained I would feel much better after getting rehydrated and encouraged me not to hesitate to call his office in the future if the problem continued. He wasn't hesitant to do whatever necessary to increase my comfort.rnrn During the first couple of weeks I had to get a couple changes in my medications and Dr. Diaz and his staff could not have been more helpful.Everytime I have went into the office or called for any questions, his staff have been very friendly. Sometimes I have had to leave a message and wait for a return call but someone always returns the call within a short time.rnrn With the exception of one nurse that worked nights, the entire staff I have encountered at St. V has been excellent. Everyone is extremely friendly. They are well organized and the hospital is very obesity friendly!rn rn The only thing I feel that could be a negative regarding Dr. Diaz is he may be too nice and quite. So far I have done well with my weight loss but I'm not for sure if he would hold me very accountable if I would start falling back into old habits. He has not really addressed anything related to any of the issues that lead to my problem to begin with. rnrn I did run into him in the hallway during a visit to the hospital for an unrelated issue. He quickly stopped where he was going and very patiently talked with me. I did mention I was concerned about getting into an exercise routine and he then suggested I check out the exercise classes offered thru the center and maybe talk with one of the trainers there. He added they were offered at no additional cost. The only problem is he never brought any of this up on his own during my routine visits. Maybe he will discuss more aftercare at my 1 year postop appointment?rnrn I feel he is an excellent surgeon. My surgery took at least an hour longer than what he had estimated. I had a lot of scar tissue from previous procedures plus I ended up being a \"bleeder\". I do feel that someone less skilled may have ended up doing an \"open\" but he was patient and was able to complete my procedure as a \"lap\". I have had no complications and had very little post op pain. My husband was very impressed and felt very comfortable when he talked with him following my surgery. Dr. Diaz explained everything that he found and did during surgery. Even though he had to be running way behind schedule after my procedure he took his time talking with my husband. My husband said he did not feel rushed at all.rnrn I want to add this. I believe this tells much about Dr. Diaz as a person. I talked with another obesityhelp member. Her surgery was scheduled just a couple of days following mine. Dr. Diaz was also her doctor. She was so apprehensive regarding getting this surgery. The morning of her scheduled procedure she went to the hospital, was admitted and when Dr. Diaz came in to talk to her just prior to going into OR she explained her uncertainty. Instead of pushing her forward he sat down and discussed everything with her and let her know she still had a choice. She ended up going home without having anything done. He was so supportive of her decision!
