I work at a hospital and if St. V's were closer I'd work there. I love St. V's everyone is great there. I've always encountered someone with a smile, from pre-admission to house keeping.

I liked her and was pleased with her skill after my surgery.

Excellent experience - friendly helpful staff from the resp. therapists to the nurses to admissions. Bariatric seating all over the place. Very accomodating to your needs - different types of beds / great at cheering you on and explaining what is going on. Good anesthesiologist. I wasn't nervous at all.

The only problem I had at Carmel St. Vincent's was with an agency nurse. She just didn't seem to know what she was doing. Her idea of a routine left a lot to be desired. She wanted to give me more insulin when my blood sugar was REALLY low. I told her that I would NOT LET her give me more insulin. If I had not been alert, she would have given me another UN-NEEDED dose of insulin. She recommended that I drink Crystal lite lemonade to get my blood sugar up. I told her that it would not raise my blood sugar--it is SUGAR and CARB. FREE! She argued that it would help raise my blood sugar. I did complain, and they immediately sent someone in to talk to me, and changed my nurses. I had great care again, from that moment on.

AT FIRST I WENT TO ONE OF HER SEMENARS WHERE I LISTENED TO HER SPEAK THEN AFTERWARDS PEOPLE WHO STILL THOUGHT THE SURGERY WAS FOR THEM SEEN EITHER THE DR. OR HER ASSISTANT, I SEEN THE ASS. BECAUSE I HAD HAD SOME FEMALE PROBLEMS THE ASS. SAID I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE MY SURGERY OPEN. AFTER THEY MEET W/U AND GATHER INFO THEY PREPARE A LETTER TO YOUR INSURANCE CO. I HAD TAKEN THEM LETTERS FROM ALL MY DR.S AND E-RAY REPORTS,C.T SCANS EVERYTHING I HAD FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS. I WAS APPROVED THE FIRST TIME. THE DAY OF MY SURGERY WAS ACTUALLY THE FIRST TIME THE SURGEON HAD MET ME PERSONALLY AND AFTER I QUESTIONED HER WHY I HAD TO HAVE IT OPEN SHE SAID I DIDNT HER ASS. WAS WRONG BUT WE WOULD HAVE TO POSTPONE AND RE-SUBMIT IT TO INS. SO I WENT ON WITH IT. AND NOW I BELEIVE OPENS ARE MUCH SAFER AND AM GLAD I DID IT THAT WAY. OVER TIME I HAVE CAME TO THINK MORE AND MORE OF MY SURGEON. I AM 3 HOURS AWAY FROM HER AND WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THAT BUT HER STAFF HAS ALWAYS RETURNED MY CALL IN A TIMLEY MANNER. HER STAFF AND THE DIETARY STAFF IS GREAT. IT IS EASY TO GET APPOINTMENTS FOR OUT OF TOWNERS THAT CORDINATE. DURING THE INITAL SEMINAR I WOULD SAY THEY TELL U THAT U CAN NOT OVEREAT BECAUSE IT WILL MAKE U VOMIT, THAT ANYTHING W/SUGAR CAUSES DUMPING, THEY SAY THIS IS ONLY A TOOL,BUT YOU REALLY BELEIVE BY THE WAY THEY DESCRIBE HOW YOUR BODY WILL REACT TO THE BAD STUFF THAT IT WILL BE YOUR BUILT IN WILL POWER. WELL I HAVE COME TO LEARN THAT IS NOT TRUE FOR EVERYONE, I HAVE HAD SUGER WITH NO REACTION TO IT,I HAVE OVERATE AND DID NOT VOMIT. NOW I WAS ATLEAST 6 MO. POST OP BEFORE I DID IT BUT I AM IN A SUPPORT GROUP AND THEY HAVE ALL TRIED ALL OF IT AND THE SAME IS TRUE FOR THEM. THEY HAVE DONE IT MORE AND THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO LOOSE AND MANY OF THEM ARE NOT LOOSING LIKE THEY SHOULD. BUT LIKE SOMEONE SAID,"THIS IS JUST A DIET IF YOU ARE ABLE TO TOLERATE THESE THINGS" I AM IN THE 5%THAT LOOSE 100% OF THEIR EXCESS WT. I TRIED THESE THINGS AND FOUND OUT THEY WERNT AS GOOD AS I REMEMBERED THEM TO BE. I KNOW I CAN EAT THEM IF I WANT THEM BUT I CHOOSE NOT TO,BUT I HAVE THE WILL POWER NOW I NEVER HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE. BUT BEWARE THERE ARE SOME THAT WILL NOT GAIN WILLPOWER AND WILL STRUGGLE JUST AS YOU ALWAYS HAVE,AFTER RISKING EVERYTHING. I RESEARCH THE SUCESS CONSTANTLY AND IT IS STARTING TO BE SEEN THAT WT. REGAIN IS POSSIBLE. YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK. YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES DO U TAKE YOUR VITIMENS, DO YOU HAVE A HANDFULL OF CHIPS OR A PACK OF TURKEY GOOD FOR PROTEIN, DO U WATCH A TV SHOW OR DO U GO FOR A WALK. EVERY TIME I EAT I THINK ABOUT THE CHOICE I MAKE, I MAKE AN EFFORT EVERYDAY HAS MY ACTIVITY BEEN AS MUCH AS WHAT I HAVE ATE? YOU ARE A BYPASS PATIENT EVERYDAY EVERY MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. INCREASING YOUR CALORIES CONSUMED BY 200 A DAY WILL PUT 10 POUNDS A YEAR ON YOU IF YOUR ACTIVITY DOESNT EXCEED YOUR FOOD INTAKE. YOU COULD WITH OUT MUCH EFFORT BECOME OVERWEIGHT AGAIN, I BELEIVE. MY SURGEON TOLD OF THE RISKS OF SURGERY REALLY WELL, I JUST THINK THEY SHOULD TELL MORE ABOUT THE POTETAL WT. REGAIN AND GIVE MORE ADVISE ON THE REST OF YOUR LIFE NOT JUST THE FIRST YEAR.
I THINK OUR SURGEONS ARE CONSTANTLY LEARNING ABOUT THESE SURGERIES, NEW DATA SEEMS TO COME EVERY DAY. MY SURGEON AT THE TIME I BELEIVE GAVE ME ALL THE INFO THAT WAS AVAILABLE. AND I WOULD RECCOMEND HER, I HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.
I WOULD SUGGEST TO EVERYONE READ ALL YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON PRE-OP AND POST-OP, FOREVER. THINGS WILL CONSTANTLY BECOME KNOWN AND ONLY IF YOU RESEARCH IT WILL U LEARN THE NEW INFO.

Dr. Inman seems to be very capable and has great knowledge of her field. Her office staff seems very eager to satisfy. I did have an incident recently, though, that kind of upset me. I have been going through trying to be approved for this procedure for over 5 years and gone through 2 different insurers. I was promised that my information would be faxed to my current insurer and it wasn't. I followed up 1.5 wks later and it was faxed at that time. I am sure that the office staff is very busy, but I have worked in insurance and customer service and know that you under-promise and always over-produce. I'm hoping that in the future, I don't run into anymore of these "miscommunications". I think this may be an isolated occurance. But since this, everything has gone smoothly.

When I first met Dr. Evanson, I thought what in the world does this young boy know about being overweight and doing any time of surgery. He looked like he was just starting high school, not a medical school graduate.

All I can say is that once he opened his mouth, started answering all of my questions, and began his presentation I had to change my mind set about him. He is a very compassionate, honest, straight forward wonderful doctor.

Dr. Evanson always said that he had the best office staff in Indiana. Until I had discussions and visited his office, I thought right, all doctors say that about their staff. Once again, Dr. Evanson was right. His office staff is the greatest. They are the best, but they failed to follow my instructions to provide me with copies of all of the paperwork I left with his office staff.

Dr. Evanson indicated that the surgery is only a tool for you to get to where you want to be in life. You, the patient. have to do the work. He indicated that exercise is the best thing that you can do to get on the road. I was so excited because when I called his office staff today 9/3/04 to see if I can begin my water aerobic classes, I was told yes.

All of the surgical risks were thoroughly discussed. I appreciated this more than anything.

I feel that both surgical competence and bedside manner are equally important.

They has a wing totally devoted to bariatric patients. All WLS patients get a private room. There are extra large chairs in all waiting areas. There are no limits on visitors to the bariatric wing. You can have visitors 24/7. There are railings along all the walls in the unit to make it easier to take walks after surgery.
