St. Vincent Charity Hospital Hospital
My hospital stay wasn't bad. This is the first time I've ever had a surgery, let a lone stay over night in a hospital. My pain control was really good, understand I had Laproscopic surgery - the only bad thing I would say is on my day of discharge I was never asked if I was in pain and was not given anything for pain, I wasn't feeling so hot when I got home, luckily I had a perscription for pain meds. The nurse was really busy when we were ready to go home and I had to take out my own hep-lock out of my hand I've done this for patients before so I knew how so over all I'd say it was a good expeiriance. The first night the nurses were wonderful they really took good care of me.
I had occasion to get transported, and they were considerate about bumps and things. Had x-ray (leak test), and the technician was clear about the procedure and gave good instructions, being respectful of how much energy I had (or didn't have). Everyone I met, from professionals to cleaning staff, were kind, courteous, friendly. It's a truly amazing place.
I have to give this hospital very high marks EXCEPT for one night nurse, she not only made me wait WAY past the time it was to receive my pain meds, she argued about the time. I was told by the nurse on the shift prior to her what the correct time was. Then when she got me up in the morning, i could not get up without help, she put me in a chair, she did not put the nurse's call button within my reach (i couldn't even find it), then she set me up facing away from the TV facing the hall, with nothing to watch or read. She had an attitude and i was sorry for her. She was the only one on board at this hospital, that i came into contact with, that had a problem (her attitude) and took it out on others. The rest of my stay, and the rest of the staff was EXCELLENT! It's too bad she's still allowed to be a care giver as her attitude is better suited for something other than working with those who have been so recently been through major surgery and had to rely on someone to do just about everything for them. When i sent them a card i never mentioned this as i refuse to allow her to ruin my memories of my stay - the other nurse's and caregivers were awesome. They were all so sensitive to our size and our pain (emotionally and physically). Thank you St. Vincent's!
