South Bay Kaiser Hospital
My first impression of Dr. Mun is that he was very busy. I only got to see him for a couple of minutes, as he reviewed my case notes. He seemed very nice, but distant.
After my surgery, he followed my case very closely, and he was wonderful. He has a great bedside manner, and he's very caring. He may be busy, but he wants to be sure you don't have any unanswered questions.
I am so glad that he was my surgeon. To rate both bedside manner and surgical competence, I'd probably say he is equally wonderful.
I have not yet met him. I have gone to one of his lectures though and found him quite informative and very nice.
His staff is fabulous! He has a wonderful team of doctors, nurses, nutritionists and therapists. They are always there for any questions and support.
He has a very strict structured program after surgery. The nutritionist seeks you after three weeks post surgery and then frequently after that. There are five stages you go through after surgery the first one being fluids for three weeks and then it increases after you see her. They are absolutely great! I will meet with Dr. Mun on April 24th.

Of course now I have met with him, had my surgery and am on my way to being a loser.
He is the greatest, most compassionate, caring physician I have met. His concerns about your success and health is a top priority. If you have a question for him, you call his office, his sec. Valerie emails him and he contacts you within minutes. The best part is he calls you back the next day to make sure you are doing ok.
I would recommend him to anyone who is thinking of having the bypass surgery. To me and from all his other patients, he is the tops!!!!!
We have a website if anyone is interested in viewing it. [email protected]
Dr. Mun is very serious and to the point, he was very nice. I'm glad I chose him.
I think the staff members who work with Dr. Mun are great, they work as a team, the meet and discuss the patients file before going forward with surgery.
Dr. Mun's office requires you to lose 10 lbs before surgery, it helps make your liver tougher during the surgery.
Aftercare is very important. No Gum!!! In case you swallow it.
Risks of surgery are well talked about, very informative.
I've got my date!!! September 12, 2003.
Dr. Zane is an excellent, wonderful, caring surgeon, who it truly interested in his patients. He is hard to make an appointment with, but it is worth the effort.
Dr. Mun has the reputation of being the best, and he is. He appears to be stoic when you first meet him, but his actions prove well that he cares very much about his patients. He uses the team approach, and there is not a weak memeber of the team. I got sick soon after surgery (it was unrelated to the surgery), and he called me PERSONALLY while I was in the hospital to see how I was doing and to ask questions about the care I was receiving at the other hospital. The aftercare was wonderful I have had a three week, three month, and six month follow up. There is a nine-month available, but it is optional. The one year will be in April. I would rate Dr. Mun an A++. He is incredibly gifted as a surgeon. Some find him abrupt, but that was not my exeperience. At my one year appointment, he smiled so much that I thought his face was going to get stuck that way! He is a master at what he does. He cares. His team cares. The care that they give is top notch. It is impossible to say enough good things about him or the team that he has around him. They say that a rave review is suspect, but I cannot help but rave about what the team has done for me.

First of all, I have not had surgery, yet.
My date for open RNY is 5/2/03.
My first meeting with Dr. Mun was after the team had met about my case. This was my last appointment.
I found him to be very honest, knowledgeable and concerned about my medical problems.
He was very pleased that I had already lost 30lbs.
Having heard Dr. Mun speak at large and small groups, been informed of his education and experiences, I feel very confident in his hands!
Dr. Mun is very concerned about aftercare and each patient's success and comfort after surgery. The aftercare program follows you for the first year.
Dr. Mun was very clear about potential surgical and post-op complications. He wants everyone to approach this serious surgery, well informed.
I am more impressed with surgical competence.
I would highly recommend him and his whole team!
Dr. Mun is an excellent surgeon!
My first impression of Dr. Mun was that he was very quiet. After a couple visits I realized that he did not have to say all too much in order for me to realize what he was thinking. My case was particularly difficult. I was not only dangerously morbidly obese but I also had a hernia so large that nearly half my intestines and bowels were outside of the abdomen wall. Dr. Mun had his job cut out for him, and he knew it. His staff was incredible, by the time I left the clinic on my first appointment, they all knew my first name, and my life partners. I was impressed. Because of the severity of the hernia, I had to lose 50 pounds prior to surgery, not the normal 10-15. That was hard, but Dr. Mun was there for me the whole time. He really cared whether or not this surgery happened. He explained every step of the way, and made sure to explain all the risks at least twice. I felt that he was so thorough at times, i would get bored, but luckily he was. Now that I am post op and have had a few difficulties, I can now remember sitting in his office and him telling me about them. The aftercare program at his clinic is set up very streamline. I have had to see him a few times outside of the normal schedule, he has always made the time or had one of his residence take care of me. What impressed me the most is that he keeps his staff up to date on my condition. I love that. I have come to the conclusion that Dr. Mun has saved my life. I would recommend him and his clinic to anyone contemplating surgery in the New England area. Dr. Mun is a complete realist. He did not promise me the world, if fact, given my circumstances he did not even promise me that the surgery would be successful. Dr. Mun himself almost talked me out of it due to the special problems I was facing with the hernia repair and the dead tissue I had. But I trusted him, and he trusted himself.
I think that both manners and competency are important....but I also think that I would be willing to have the biggest jerk in the world operate on me, as long as they were also the best at what they do...after all...that is why we have nurses. Isn't it??
i have yet to meet with Dr.mun on a one on one basis, although I went to a pre-op support meeting.
I found his presintation to be quit informitive and his clinic support team helpful with any questions.
his program requries that you lose 10lbs.between your visit with the neturitionist and the phychiatrist. I am finding this quit difficult, although I have made some progress. When I have lost the 10lbs I will be able to make an appointment with him.I must weigh in on feb.28,only down
4 1/2 lbs.
I have had my physical ,gone to the required support meetings, met with the neutritionest, gone over pre op and post op procedures, all but lost the required 10lbs!!!
His support team seem to have it all together.they set up all apointments and mri's,and were quit helpful with insurance aproval.
Dr. Belzberg was the most awesome surgeon, I couldn't have asked for anyone better. He made sure that through all the complications I had that I was okay and follows up with me regularly. Dr. Belzbergs nurses are also wonderful, helpful, and very friendly and understanding.

I just can't even stress how amazing Dr. Belzberg is, I just had an appt. with him today and he spent over a half an hour in the room with me. Letting me ask questions, looking at my wound, and just making sure I was well taken care of!
