South Bay Kaiser Hospital
Dr. Mun is a great surgeon. He is very caring about obese people and treats us well. He has always taken the time to answer any questions that I have had. At times his vocabulary may be alittle too scientific or medically based for some to clearly understand, but he willingly answers questions and clarifies. He is adament about having to lose ten pounds minimum, before meeting with him or he will not do the surgery. He is very skilled according to those in our support group and according to hospital personnel. He takes time to explain the risks of surgery and the importance of appropriate aftercare and the need to make a life style change in order to effectively lose weight and keep it off. His office staff is also great!
At first I thought Dr Mun was a little aloof. As I began to spend more time with him I found him to be very warm and having a very good sense of humor. You have to bring it out in him though!
Office staff is nice but there are too many people (patients) and not enough time. You can be waiting in the office for many hours waiting to see all necessary staff. I don't know about you but my time is very valuable. I have better things to do than to sit in a waiting room.
I would recommend him. I would not recommend the center for nutrition at the Beth Israel.
I am a nurse at the same hospital as Dr. Mun. I have known him since he was an intern. Dr. Mun is an extremely talented and accomplished surgeon. I checked out other programs in Boston, interviewing 4 other surgeons. Dr. Muns statistics are excellent. I was confident when I put my life in his hands.
I think BIDMC has the whole package. The structured program includes nurses, a nutritionist, medical doctor and psychologist. The support group is wonderful.
Dr. Mun is a quiet, reserved doctor. He is very helpful with all of the information. At the same time he is very friendly and once you get to know him, Dr. Mun is very understanding. At first I thought Dr. Mun was as serious as a doctor gets. Now he seems more of a relaxed person. Everyone on his staff is the best. They know what they are doing and help you a lot along the way. Even Heather the receptionist is very friendly and helpful. That is comforting to say the least. I don't know, I never had a bad experience with Dr. Mun or his staff. Dr. Mun seems very empathetic and so is Linda the dietician. Yes, the Gastric Bypass Unit at Beth Isreal is very structured. If you have questions though, don't be afraid to ask. Every risk known to man about this surgery was covered. I also know the benefits as well. I rate Dr. Mun and the team a 10 (10 being the best). I would say both. Sometimes is hard to doctors to be all or none. I would say surgical competence rates high with me.
I haven't met him yet. I did go down to Boston for an appointment to see him on 1/23/03 but he wouldn't see me due to the fact that I hadn't lost the 10lbs. that he requires yet. I am resheduled to see him on 2/27/03. It doesn't matter that I am trying to maintain 40 lbs. that I have lost since last April. I guess he just wants to make sure he is operating on the best candidates and that they won't fail. He means business so if anyone has him for a surgeon lose the weight or you won't have a chance with Dr. Mun.
Dr. Mun - Wow, what a nice guy. Very knowledgeable. Down to earth and means everything he says. His staff or "Gastric Bypass Team" is made up of a Nurse, a Nutrionist, a Pschycologist, and a Doctor (Medical Director). They all have great personalities and are professional and approachable. Future patience need to know - What he says is what he means. If you don't follow program/instructions, he will not perform the surgery. Aftercare is important and they schedule/follow you for 2 years. He quotes risk of injury just as much as the success. From Leakage to death, it is all explained. Overall the "Team" and Dr. Mun are very knowledgeable and open with the information. They are fantastic.
I have met Dr. Mun at his support group and overview of the surgery. He is very through and direct. He answers questions, no matter what they may be. He is also very strict about losing 10-15 pounds before the surgery and has turned away patients not meeting this requirment. He emphazis's the importance of support group meetings before and after the surgery. The program at Beth Iseral in Boston is excellent, the people are very nice, friendly and are open and honest about all risks and what to expect.
I feel very good in Dr. Mun's hands.
I Met Dr Edward Mun while attending a couple of support group meetings which are part of the pre-op requirements for Gastric Bypass at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Dr Mun strikes me as very knowledgeable and competent surgeon. Somewhat quiet and reserved. He was concise about the risks associated with the surgery. He is very picky on who he will do surgery on. He wants his patients to be successful. Surgery is only a tool. He emphasizes your need to make lifelong changes and aftercare is just as important. I look forward to my appointment with Dr Mun on February 13th.
I haven't yet met Dr. Mun. I've heard that he is very disciplined and "to the point". That's fine with me, this isn't a game and I need my surgeon to be serious to keep me motivated.
The staff has been wonderful! I should have my surgery in March/April 03'.
I first laid eyes on Dr. Mun when I went to a support group meeting. Dr. Mun was to the point, no joking around. He said that he picks and chooses his patients. I was scared to death to actually meet him, but I did finally. I have 100% confidence in him. Office staff at the gastric bypass program were great. Nurse Hannah, Izzy, Dr. H., Linda V, Darlene, Heather were very caring and informative. Pat, in Dr. Mun's office was extremely helpful and always willing to do extra to help you out. Everyone should have a Pat to help them. Pat handled all my insurance paperwork and scheduled my surgery date. Dr. Mun stresses on aftercare so that you won't fail. He won't even see you if you have not lost the 10 pounds he requires before surgery. I like the team approach this program offers.
