Scripps Mercy Hospital (COE) Hospital
All of the staff that I had contact with were wonderful, although I did hear about a horrible nurse on the ninth floor that some of my bariatric buddies had to deal with. She is the sole exception on the excellent staff. I had read about her on this site before I went for surgery and I am quite glad I did not get her.
I cannot be effusive enough in my high opinion of Scripps Mercy Hospital. They have an entire floor dedicated to bariatric patients, and therefore entire staffs trained in our special needs. They were WONDERFUL. Extremely professional, yet always pleasant with a personal touch. The nurses were prompt in answering the call button every single time, and they were in our room so much of the rest of the time I barely needed to ever call them. The doctors, both my surgeon and the ward resident, were so knowledgeable and so thorough, I was always confident and assured that I was receiving the best possible care. Prior to surgery, the pre-op class, and the intake process, were handled smoothly and with great tolerance of our nerves. My husband and pastor were allowed to be with me right up until I was wheeled into the OR. Afterwards, although visiting hours are over at 8:30, my husband was allowed to stay until midnight, after he was assured I was OK and then he went home. I had several episodes when I needed a little extra nursing care, and they were right there providing it. I would recommend this hospital to anyone considering any procedure but especially for the bariatrics.
