Scripps Mercy Hospital (COE) Hospital
I was the patient with complications of the nine of us that had surgery that day. Everyone, from the newest student nurse to the most experienced surgeon did their job 150%. They all knew what to do as I had problems and they did it with caring and concern for both me and my family. I will never forget the care they gave me. They saved my life.
The nursing staff for the most part was wonderful. There were just a couple who weren't as understanding or tender as the most of them. Facility was well equipped for obese patients, and they even offered an exercise class for Bariatric patients which was very helpful and very low impact, but got you moving various limbs which I found great.
I have heard some horror stories. I am praying that my stay will go well. I'll update this section in a couple of weeks!
UPDATE: My stay was uneventful with some wonderful nurses committed to my recovery. There was just one nurse who seemed condescending - must have seen one too many bariatric patients. My first roommate was also a bypass patient, the second was general surgery. She often had 5-12 people visiting at a time, loud and disrespctful of me and my space. Mostly I found that the nurse call button was not connected to my nurse's pager throughout the stay. The one responding rarely got the message to my nurse. I had to be OK with multiple pages as necessary to get the response. However, the care was always superior when it arrived.
