New Hanover Regional Medical Center Hospital
Dr. Miles is a wonderful doctor that was open and very willing to explain things to me and my husband. After surgery I had dry heaves very bad, he stayed in the hospital with me at 8 pm to get it under control. He performed the surgery laproscopic and I had the staples taken out within five days. His staff Helen (his nurse) is very smart when it comes to gastric bypass, but can be very hard at times. I would recomend Dr. Miles to anyone, I traveled six hours away to find such a great doctor.
Dr. Harris is very informative. He lets you know the risks and benefits associated with WLS. At my first visit he meet with me and my husband and examined by stomach, then we had a group mini seminar, which was very informal. Dr. Harris is very open to any questions and concerns you may have. His office staff is very courteous and the nursing staff that I have been in contact with are very supportive of our effects to losing weight. Dr. Harris stresses in the first visit with him that you have to ready for a life change and that you are required to f/u with him every 3 months for 2 years after your surgery, and periodically thereafter. His aftercare program is every 3 months and f/u with physc and the neutritionist after surgery. I love Dr. Harris he has help to change my life forever and for that I am very grateful. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence are very good. I have not had any negative aspects associated with Dr. Harris.
Dr. Miles, Helen, & Howard as well as the whole office staff were informative, helpful and made you feel at ease. They were and still continue to be very personable. This is was a hugh undertaking that nobody should take lightly, but if you decide to do it, check out David Miles and get the much needed results.
************The office staff couldn't be nicer or better, and this is from a person who hasn't even had their consult yet with the physician. I have bombarded them with emails and Mary from the office staff has been a darling to me. Time will tell, but they definately have impressed me so far with their prompt attention to questions from a hopeful patient.*************
************Update--I really liked Dr. Harris. He is very competent and matter of fact, which is what I like in a doc. He doesn't sugarcoat anything, but gives a lot of hope, too. He has never had a leak or a staple line disruption, because he transects the stomach, in addition to stapling and suturing. From what I have seen on here, he REALLY tries to anticipate problems BEFORE they happen and prevent them. I will be on Nexium for 6 MONTHS after surgery to help prevent any ulcers while my new tummy heals. He keeps his patients on clear liquids for three days postop, then full liquids for four weeks postop, then pureed soft foods as tolerated for two weeks, then full unrestricted diet as tolerated after that. To me, though it sucks to be on liquids for so long, this makes a TON of sense. Too many postops have has problems with swelling, scars, strictures, etc, that I think may be in part to trying too many whole foods too fast. Every doc is different, but I completely trust Dr. Harris, and I have been in the health care field for over 10 years...
Dr. Miles and his staff especially Helen and Howard, they were so helpful and imformative.
Dr. Miles is up front and to the point with the surgery and made me feel very comfortable, not to mention he is pretty easy on the eyes hehehehehe I give Dr. Miles an A++++++
The office staff was very nice when they called me for my first appointment. I have had my first visit with Dr. Harris and he is very nice. He is very down to earth and up front about what the procedure is about. He told me exactly what he would do and he never seemed to be rushing me which is a big plus for me. I hate to feel like a doctor does not have time to talk to me. I would very much recommend him to anyone! His staff is so nice. He has a support group that meets every third Tuesday of each month at the hospital.
Overall, was a great stay. I had a problem with a room mate the first few hours, but then I requested to be moved and they accomodated me. Very loud, every word out of their mouth was a curse word. I didn't want my kids in there with that. And I mean nasty curse words. They had big gowns and the nurse I had the first day was really helpful. She let me hold on to her and walk around the floor. I later found out her mom had GBP, so maybe that is why she was so nice. But the other nurses were just a friendly. I didn't have any problems at all!
The man is straight to the point but he has an awesome sense of humor.
My impression of him over time only deepened with admiration because of his honesty.
His staff is so COOL and those girls really seem to care.
I would tell any of you if at any time that he gave me the willies or anything but he didn't. He is an overall good man.
Future pts. should know that he will not hold back on you, so don't waste his time.
Aftercare is before care....I mean he will definately be on the ball about any complaints after surgery. He was just really there for me.
The risks of surgery were told to me until he was blue in the face.
Overall this man rates pretty high on my list like next to my dad.
Both areas were great.
