New England Medical Center Hospital

Over all it was pretty much what I had expected. We are living in 2002 and not 1980. Life is a lot different and the quality of care by most medical personnel has gone way down. Under staffed, over worked, and under paid does not make for a caring staff of nurses. I had one nurse( Noreen)who saw me as a person, cared for me as a person, and met my needs in love. To the rest, I was a number, a peice of meat whose feelings and comfort did not matter. So to my angle of a nurse, Noreen, I bestow praise and thanks for making my stay at the NEMC a some what bearable experience.

My first night after surgery was horribe. I had to stay in recovery, it was very crowded and noisy. The nurses in recovery were talking loud all night...and chatting about food. It was not fun!! I had to beg for ice chips. Once I got up to 4 North the staff was excellent and extremely helpful. I was lucky I got a private room after surgery. The nurses helped you with anything you needed. They would stop by often. They helped me bath and walk. The hospital was very clean.
My second trip in was ok, not as nice of a bed in the room. However, the staff was still excellent. My Doctor checked on me often. Dr. Tarnoff was wonderful. He ran a lot of tests to rule out complications. I felt well cared for.

The hospital was great, but the time I had my surgery, they were short staffed. I don't think the care was really that great as far as the nursing staff because of the shortage of help. Other than that, the only minor thing was that they never really cleaned the room. Like changing the sheets daily and washing down the bathroom. I was not bed ridden and I never understood why they never did this, but eveything else was fine. I guess I was not too fussy about that thing until I thought about it. I did have only 1 other person in room, but that is something you have to tolerate anywhere. I would say compared to other hospitals I have been in, this was not that bad.
