NewStart at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center Hospital
Dr. Spiegel was the first sergeon I researched on the web. I was impressed with his testimonials and with the fact that he only performs the LapBand surgery. His staff was extremly helpful...I attended a seminar about a week after researching the website. The seminar was very informative. I knew this was what I wanted to do. I did have a (quick) consult with Dr. Spiegel the day of the seminar. He was impressed I had such a long list of questions. He had answered most of them in the course of his seminar and answered the remaining ones during the consult. He staff obtained insurance approval 2 weeks later. Now I'm on my way. The one thing I haven't liked so far is that I asked to attend one of Spiegel's support group meetings BEFORE surgery & was told I couldn't. I was able to attend a support group at the hospital...I will likely continue with their aftercare program rather than Spiegel's. I will update this info as I continue my journey. :)
• My first impression of Dr Spiegel was goodrn• Yes my impression changed over time.rn• His office staff is very unprofessional.rn• He is a fine surgeon.rn• He emphasizes aftercare very little.rn• His aftercare program is not much.rn• He addressed the risks of surgery not too well.rn• I would rate him overall as the finest surgeon in the business, but his bedside manner sucks.rn• His surgical competencern
rnI had done quite a bit of research before going to Dr. Spiegel's seminar. I was very impressed with his expertise, especially regarding port placement. I feel Dr. Spiegel addressed every issue I wanted him to address and answered every question I needed answered. He did address every risk at his seminar and gave so much helpful information that I was convinced when I left the office that he was the surgeon for me. I had read on the message board that he was not a doctor for \"warm fuzzies,\" but my decision for a top surgeon was more important to me. I have been happy with Dr. Spiegel and his care. The girls in his office are very nice and helpful; however very busy and I feel his business would benefit from more staff and a better follow-up plan. He does stress the importance of a support group and offers those in his office as well. Overall, I have been very pleased with my decision of chosing Dr. Felix Spiegel.
I went for 7 hours immediately after surgery with no pain meds! I repedidly asked for some thing for my pain and they told me that they could not give me anything else. I told them to call the Dr. and they said that he would not give me any more pain meds. I finnaly got them moving when I told them to get me another doctor. There was this lady her name is Mary and she came in and she had worked all day and then had to deal with me, she saved me. She got right ontop of things and made sure that I was taken care of. She informed my Dr. and I am sure that it will never happen to another one on his patients. There needs to be more people like her, she deserved a raise just for putting up with me that day.
I chose Dr. Spiegel because of his number of surgeries he has performed....over 5,000. I felt that when I met him he seemed so comfortable and knowledgeable about the lap band surgery that he was the one to go with. The only thing I haven't liked so far is the office environment. It's pretty chaotic...lots of patients that they are trying to get thru.
Dr. Spiegel has been awesome! Not only did he do a great job with my LapBand, but he patiently and compassionately took my late night anxiety calls concerning a complication to the antibiotics or anesthesia! Since I have seen him a few times now for follow-up, I have found him to be a genuinely nice person with a somewhat dry sense of humor. The post-op care was clearly detailed in writing with clear dietary guidlines for several weeks. I knew I was in good hands with Dr. Spiegel as I was referred to him by another one of my doctors who had him do the same procedure! A bit of constructive criticism is for the office staff in Houston. A more professional, medical office dress code would give more sense of confidence. On a positive note, the office staff has always been polite, pleasant, and respectful.
Has performed over 5.000 Lap-Band surgeries. Has extremely low complication rate. All of his office staff have been banded by him, and will answer ANY of your questions. He is highly skilled and confident, also very pleasant bedside manner. Emphasizes aftercare and followup. rnI would highly recommend this surgeon.
He's actually in Houston, TX. At least he is part time.rnrnMy first impression was that he knew what he was doing, and wasn't afraid to let us know.rnrnThe office staff irritated me in that it took several days to answer my questions. They're all banded, by him with awesome results.rnrnI'll update as things change!
