Dr. Spiegel is a great doctor! Dr. Spiegel has always been there to answer my questions or concerns even after hours. There is great emphasis on aftercare and support. However, because of the distance, I am unable to make the support meetings. I do wish that he offered support groups within the Lake Charles area which would allow quite a few of his patients to attend. I filmed an informercial in April 2008 and it pretty awesome to be recognized where you go and to be able to share my WLS journey. I would rate Dr. Spiegel a 9.0 for his surgical competence.
Dr. Spiegel seemed very knowledgable about bariatric surgeries. He had a tough time with my verticle sleeve due to a prior scar tissue from a gall bladder removal years ago. He was very considerate and seems concerned about my progress. He also performed a band surgery on my sister the same day...Although I am considering a revision, I would go back to him without question. His staff is also very supportive. I think all of them have had bariatric surgeries performed by him. (Houston, TX office)
Dr Spiegel is undoubtedly a pro at performing the lapband surgery. One year out I do somewhat question his training methods for post-op patients. I would suggest all considering the LB surgery to do their due diligence to research the Dr. that can accomodate your entire weight loss process without cost-laden fills and follow-up care.rnrnGood surgeon, with costly cash payment required fills.
My first impression of Dr. Spiegal was that he made my mom skinny! At the time, I didn't care about his bedside manner or anything else. I just wanted the surgery.rnrnAs time passes, my impression has changed. I don't feel like he cares about his patients success anymore.rnrnOffice staff, for the most part they are okay, but it's been awhile since I've gone in to the office.rn
I am working with Dr. Felix Spiegel and his staff in his Houston office. This is a VERY experienced and competent surgeon with an enthusiastic ans helpful staff. They are quite busy as a result of the great demand for Dr. Spiegel's expertise, but I don't see this as a problem. My advice is to come prepared with relevant health history information, as well as a list of questions, and you will be very satisfied with the care you receive in your initial consultation. I know I was!
-Dr. Spiegel is straight to the point!rn-Just confirmed my first opinion, He is interested in the overall lbs. one loses not the inches. (He's in the biz of WL not inch loss.)rn-BUSY & HELPFUL.rn-Dr. Spiegel is excellent in his craft, but if a person is looking to be hand held & spoon fed choose another surgeon. Plain & simple. (he's VERY busy!)rn-Aftercare is stressed, but he can't force anyone. You are now incharge of your own SUCCESS. He just supplies us with a Great Tool to help us achieve WL.rn-Aftercare is once a month at his office & once a month @ UG hospital. Check with his staff on dates & setting an appt.rn-Risk is mentioned in the consultation.rn-Rate him a 9 out of 10.rn-Surgical Competence Outstanding!

I had my surgery on January 25, 2006 and have no regrets. I've lost 85 pounds since with only minor complications. I now see Dr. Keith Chung in Lake Charles, LA.
I love Dr. Spiegel. He is a fantastic surgeon who performed a VSG on me. I love his matter-of-fact approach without any bs moralizing or requirement that you have to lose 10% of your weight pre-op. rnrnWent to his seminar in which he described the procedures. I had never heard of VSG before and was thinking of getting a Lap Band. The advantages of VSG were crystal clear and after meeting with him decided to have it. Scheduled surgery a few weeks later and am doing great.rnrnI wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Spiegel.
Dr. Spiegel seems to be ok. Great smile and very friendly. He is confident and really knows his stuff. He tends to rush you through the process because he has so many patients. If you have questions you really have to voice them immediately or risk him rushing out of the room before you've had a chance to ask. rnI understand that he's the best and that's what's important to me.
He was wonderful and his knowledge and experience are what helped me make my decision to go with him.rnrnDon't look for him to babysit you...he gives you the tool and expects you to take it from there.rnrnHis office staff are great, I think I called on a daily basis for at least a week after surgery and they never got frustrated with me!
