Buffalo General Medical Center Bariatrics at Kaleida Health Hospital
I had weight loss surgery with Dr. Butsch back in 2005. I then develop a hernia (they're common after wls) he repaired my hernia. I walked away from the hospital with MRSA and C-diff. My MRSA is hospital acquired. I believe that Dr. Butsch or someone on his team did NOT wash their hands. I've been fighting MRSA for the past 6 months. I'm on a iv at home, and taking antibiotics through the iv daily. The MRSA creates seroma's/cysts in my stomach that I have to have drained 2 times a month. Dr. Butsch, or someone on his staff has caused me to have a highly infectious disease. MRSA is expensive to fight, BCBS doesn't cover some of the medicine that I am required to take via iv. My husband, and kids are now at risk for developing this disease. Please, whatever you do, make sure that proper sterilization techniques are practiced at whatever hospital you have surgery at. Don't end up like me. I'm fighting a very dangerous and expensive disease, because someone (or Dr. Butsch) on the surgical team didn't sterilize their hands.
My first impression of Dr. Posner was that he is a \"no-B.S.\" kind of guy. I dig that. It takes a while to get through all of the pre-cautionary red-tape, that's really the only negative I can think of, but once you get to see Dr. Posner (after the informational seminar that he and his partner, Dr. Forbes host), the bloodwork, psych evaluation, sleep tests, other tests, meeting with nurse, dietician, and physical therapist), things move really quickly. Dr. Posner's program is very strict and is for serious patients only; flaking out on an appointment or not following the program is *not* tolerated. Dr. Posner is there to help us and he reserves his and his staffs' time to patients who are serious about making a life change. He is very easy to talk to and answered every question I had thoroughly. I trusted him with my life and he delivered. I'm 6 weeks post op and have lost a total of 52 pounds; 27 pounds for the 5 months pre surgery on South Beach, and 25 pounds in the 6 weeks since surgery. I cannot express how kind Dr. Posner is. He wants nothing but great success for his patients and it shows. He clearly explained the surgery (bypass) and the risks and aftercare to me, my Husband, and even my Mother. There is a structured after-care program and regular check ins. There is also a monthly support group that his office organizes. I had to page Dr. Posner once in the evening when I had a horrible reaction to a tiny piece of chicken that I eaten. He phoned me back immediately and explained what was happening and how to deal with it; he also told me to phone him back at any time that I was concerned about anything; even if it's 2 am. He said that's what he is here for and told me never to feel bad about calling him. His office staff is great; personable and knowledgable. Dr. Posner's confidence put me at ease. I believe he is an incredibly gifted surgeon and to date he has not lost a patient due to the either the gastric bypass or the lapband (knocks on wood for the future). Overall, Dr. Posner gets 5 stars from me; a 100/100; an A+.
So far so good... I like his style, his straight-forwardness, no pussy-footing around... tells the risks out right, and you follow his program or you leave. I really like the fact that he listened to my questions and answered them in a way I understood without talking down to me; and he asked me if I had any more questions for him... WOW!rnrnDr Posner in Buffalo at Buffalo General Hospital is about the best thing that has ever happened to me! Had my WLS on Tuesday May 8th and was released on Thursday......all the staff who looked after me were the best!!!!! And I mean everyone, from the housekeeping lady who came in to empty the garbage pail to the Drs...eveyone asked me if I was ok, did I need anything, would I like to see a nurse...etc etc.rnrnI'm impressed. Very impressed with the \"perfect\" WLS surgery I had in Dr Posner's hands to the followup he did during rounds to the greatest nursing team ever! rnrnOh, and canucks. If you're doing your \"due diligence\" and searching for a Dr for the WLS, then please do consider Dr Posner. OHIP works with them, and they're the ones I chose and I'm so ever happy that I did!rnrnThanks once again Dr Posner! Your skilll has given me back my life! WooHoo... I'm on my way!
This man is awsome!! He's very straight forward and blunt. You never wonder what he's thinking, which for me is perfect in a surgeon. If you need things delivered to you \"softly\", that probably won't happen.rnrnHe cares tremendously about his patients and only wants to see us succeed. rnrnThere is a very strict pre and post surgery program that MUST be followed.rnrnFor Dr. Posner, aftercare is the rest of your life. You're making a lifetime committment to visit him regularly so that your health can be monitored.rnrnThe office staff is fantastic! They all truly care about their patients and it shows in everything they do. rnrnI can't say enough good about this practice! I would be comfortable sending anyone to him!

I am three days post-op. Dr. Posner and his team were very professional, straightforward and re-assuring. It is clear that you must meet all the expectations they set out before the surgery. The biggest one is to follow the South Beach Diet and demonstrate that you can be compliant on the diet. It is very helpful to get into the right frame of mind for the \"life long\" aspects of eating healthy. I had to keep calling the office to make sure I was completing each step, but all the staff were friendly and professional. He has never had a death and is very committed to keeping that record which is great for any patient. The nurtritionist is very helpful with handouts. I highly recommend Dr. Posner and Buffalo General. The hospital was clean and very professional during the surgery and while I was in it.rn
I first met Dr. Posner at the weight loss seminar and I was immediately impressed with his atitude and directness. He was extremely honest with everyone and held nothing back. He is a very kind and compassionate man. He is genuinely concerned about all of his patients and will talk to you day or night, wether you are feeling ill or just feeling blah! I would highly recommend him to anyone who is considering the option of this surgery. You won't find a more caring and considerate Doctor than him. God Bless him for all that he does. rnHe explains everything in detail, if you ever have questions, all you have to do is pick uo the phone and call him, you will get an immediate response. His staff is extremely efficient and caring, I have never had an issue with anyone in his office, they are all there to help. Dr. Posner has a great bedside manner. he will make you feel comforterable in any situation. He is definitely an angel sent from heaven and if I had to do this all over again, there is no one I would chose over him.
'Dr. Posner is a very kind and easy going doctor. My first visit with him was very easy to do
Dr. Posner was very matter of fact about possible problems after surgery. He made sure I understood exactly what was involved, and that it was a tool, not a miracle. He was professional, but made me feel at ease. He mentioned aftercare, but said it would be stressed more at my next visit. His staff is efficient, and all but one of them have been friendly and helpful. Most of them seem to go out of their way to deal with my concerns and make my visits go smoothly. Surgical competence and bedside manner in a doctor are both important to me, but if I could only have one, I would go with surgical competence (by a mile). The surgeon doesn't have to be my good buddy, but I sure do want him to know what he's doing when he gets a scalpel in his hand. His office contacted my insurance company the afternoon of my second visit, and I received approval within 24 hours!
Unfirtunately my surgery had to be postponed due to abnormal blood work, but as soon as that cleared up I phoned the office and was given a new date the same day!
Dr. Posner was very nice and helpful he was very honest about the risk of having RNY and the results that will follow. He did not rush and answered all the questions that my mother and I had even read a book to my son. I love the Comprehensive Weight Loss Center you can call them at anytime to ask question about anything they will help.
