I actually first met with Dr. Ali's partner, Dr. Arreola and was very impressed with him. He was very knowlegable and very honest and open about the risks and complications of having WLS. When I went to the support group meetings I was able to talk to Dr. Ali and get to know him. He too was very knowlegable and very honest about al the risks and complications. Both Doctors are very expierenced and made me feall at ease. I will have Dr. Ali do my surgery to because he preforms the surgery laproscopicly and Dr. Arreola only preforms open surgery.
The office staff have been great and very helpfull they all seem very nice.
I would rate both these Doctors 9 on a scale of 1 to 10, I will write more after surgery and see if there is any change in that rating.

Now that I have had mr surgery I would give Dr. Ali a score or 12 on sacale from 1-10. He is very careing and concerned for his patients and wants to know that they are being taken care of properly. I was in the hospital over the weeken and it was his weekend off, so Dr. Arreola who is his partner was covering for him. He called me at the hospital both days and talked with me and also with the staff to be shure I was being properly taken care of. He has been great.

They have all the latest technology in most all areas of medicine and some of the Best Drs. in the country. However I feel improvements could be made in the rooms and furnishings in them. The rooms are way to small for the Obesity section, almost no room for move ment with medical equiptment in the room.

My first meeting with Dr.Ali was wonderful, I found him to be very easy to talk with and a Dr. who showed a deep concern for my weight issue. For the first time in my life a Dr. finally agreed with me that diet is not enough for me to lose this amount of weight.Dr.Ali's office staff was a very friendly and caring staff, and they made me feel so welcomed and important.
Anyone in the Erie area, should not hesitate to go and see Dr. Ali about weight surgery, you will be very glad you did.By the time I left his office I was so relaxed and so looking forward to setting a date with him for the surgery with no second thoughts , he was very imformitive on the WLS procedure, he answered all my question and concerns at that point. just as I am sure he will answer any new concerns or questions I might have for him. Dr. Ali was very strong is his emphasize in the before care and aftercare of the WLS. Even to the point that he highly recommended that I read to different books to help me understand the surgery in full detail. Along requirering me to attend at least 3 support group meeting there in Erie prior to the surgery its self and then Highly recommended that I attend support group meeting on a reqular basis.
On a scale of 1-10 with 1 begin the least and 10 the best, I would have to say that I find Dr.Ali to be a positive 10. I would highly recommened him to all who are in need of this surgery and care. Dr. Ali, addressed the issue of the risk factors for this surgery is great detail. to the point bless his heart he has ordered test for my heart, lungs, internal organs , and has even looked ahead for the possibility of Blood Clots to the requireing me to have a Greenfield Filter but in a week before the surgery date.
I will update more information on the Dr. after the surgery is done.

Competent, Patient & Knowledgeable! Just a few of Dr. Ali's qualities. I have nothing but praise for him...now. At first, I was a little reluctant but he brought me through some very difficult months of illness. A very busy man, so you must learn to be patient as well. He will go to great lengths to get you the type of care you need, no matter what stage you are in after surgery.

Office staff is great (Myrna is the best)! He has a very structured aftercare plan. Attending the post-surgery meetings are VERY important to him. If you miss any, be prepared to be questioned as to why. Dr. Ali's bedside manner is one of the best I have ever seen. VERY professional. He does expect you to follow his instructions and there is very little room for compromise.

My biggest complaint would be the waiting. He is very booked up and there is a long wait for surgery. Not to mention he is a little slow with doing the necessary letters for insurance purposes. At the time, I was very unhappy with that. I now understand, knowing how busy he is with everything else.

As of October, 2004, Dr. Ali has moved to Erie, PA. Some of what I have written may not apply to Dr. Ali at his new location. He performed my surgery November, 2003 in Kansas City, Mo. All of his 'old' patients miss him very much!

I loved my staff. They were funny and caring. They took care of me but also let me do things on my own, which was good. I appreciate all the hard work that they do there.

He seemed straight forward and soft-spoken. It took a long time to get an appointment, but once I am in with him he has been very cooperative and available.
The staff is very nice to me.
I thought he was a hard worker at the hospital. He came to see me on the weekend and even at 10pm a couple of nights. He has a structured aftercare with visits to the dietician every couple of weeks as well as several group sessions each month.
He went over the risks of surgery with me including death... also he covered leaks, strictures, mal-nutrition....and many others.
Be sure and listen since there is a good chance that there will be complications. I have had some but they were discussed with me before the surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Ali was that he really cared about his patients. I did not feel rushed, he took all the time we needed to address our questions and concerns. Over time, my impression just got better about him. His professionalism is outstanding. His office staff is great. They all work as a team to make your journey a success. There isn't really anything that I don't like about him or his staff. I would and have recommended his a lot over this past year. Aftercare is very important and is stressed continually throughout your pre & post op appts. This risks of surgery are well explained. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate Dr. Ali and his staff 12+. Both surgical competence & bedside manner are important.
