When I first met Dr. Kuri, I was really surprised at how pleasant and comfortable he made me feel. He was very honest and sincere in what he felt that he could help me to accomplish with the lap band surgery. My impression over time has remained the same. I think he is great! His staff was and still is pleasant to talk to and all speak excellent English. I could find nothing to dislike about Dr. Kuri. Future patients should know that Dr. Kury is very honest. He is sincere as long as he thinks you are sincere and are willing to change your lifestyle in order to get better. He and his staff emphasizes aftercare from the beginning and offeres any help if needed. They addressed all the risks of the surgery and encouraged questions before and after surgery. I rate him and his staff a 10 out of 10. Both surgical competence and beside manner of Dr. Kuri and his staff were beyond great. They were excellent!

My testimonial will be a little different being I had my band put in down in mexico, I flew in on a tuesday and left on a thursday so I really only dealt with the doctor for one full day and two part days. My first impression was a good one for me, I was in the waiting room waiting my turn to get my ekg done when he snuck up behind me and put his arm on my shoulder and asked how everything was going and then shook my hand. it seemed for those 3 days I was there I saw him alot walking around between the office and the floor the patients stayed on. I think I talked to him 5 times in those 3 days I was there 3 of the times was when he stopped in my room. his receptionists speak good english but some of the nurses that do like your ekg and blood work dont speak english so that was kind of weird just having them do stuff to you and not knowing what was going on. Being it was in mexico most of its in and out patients meaning he doesnt really become your lap band aftercare doc for most, he does have free fills if go to his office. but he does stress that you find a good aftercare and probably get into counseling being your going to have a life changing surgery. He is straight forward with the surgery, he has never lost a patient from surgery and he has done over 2800 band procedures but he says there is always a risk. overall I must say he is an excellent doctor and with all the credentials he has he makes you feel comfortable being your most likely flying in one day getting banded the next and out the following.

I was skeptical, as he is mexican MD. But I saw his patinets, and went and looked at hospital..and surgery suite. I am a RN. rnHis team is undescribeable..they acrae..and followup with you.rnI love the way he smiles..and cares and say how you doing honey,,,rnPatients will always have him for MD once he places band..he takes care of it for ever!!rnI give him a 10/10..there is not a better MD out there in my opinion.rnrnThere really isnt a negative thing to say..he took very good care of me.rnMaybe the fact he has so many pts, makes you have to wait for fills..but Ide rather wait and have him eval me and do it!!!

I have not yet met Dr. Kuri, but his team has been helpful. Jessica has helped with finding financing, sheduling surgery, providing pre op Liver Shrinking Diet, providing Post - op information and diet, as well as providing a list of other patients, living in my area, who have traveled to Mexico and had surgery by Dr. Kuri. JoAnne has also helped answer questions regarding financing.rnrnThis is all I can add right now. Although evreyone I talk to speaks very highly of Dr. Kuri, his care, and the facility. rnrnDr. Kuri and his team are top notch. They work together to make sure their patients have the best care. rnrnBoth Dr. Kuri and one of his other doctors came by to talk to the six of us having surgery the night before surgery. He answered any and all questions we had, and made it clear to us that we would not \"wake up skinny\". The band was a tool, and we had to learn to use the tool correctly. If we misused the tool, then we would have problems. This is not the easy way out. This journey would take a lot of work. rnrnI really appreciate his honesty and frankness. rnrnWhile in the hospital Dr. Kuri came by to check on me at least twice, I think I was sleeping one of the times though. I have aslo received one checkup call from Dr. Kuri's office, although they had to leave a message. I have a patient facilitator that I can email or call for little things, and I can call the office with any concerns and someone will get back to me. rnrnDr. Kuri provides his patients with detailed pre op and post op care instructions. rnrnDr. Kuri is both surgically competent and has a great bedside mannerrnrn

I really liked Dr. Kuri. He has a kind, yet stern demeanor that eases some of the fear that surfaces when faced with the prospect of receiving medical treatment far from home. His new hospital is gorgeous. Bring DVD's (the rooms have players) unless you can enjoy one channel of TeleMundo. The Doctors were all wonderful and the hospital staff was competant and caring. I only wish I had bothered to learn some more Spanish. Although there is no structured aftercare program to speak of, he has an online forum where post-op patients can find mentors who have been there, done that. Dr. Kuri emphasizes aftercare and all fills/adjustments are included in the price of surgery (not including transportation or fluoroscopy. Risks are addressed in orientation, but Dr. Kuri seems to cater to the educated patient. Do your research, it is your body and your life. No one can learn it all in a ten minute orientation. Know your stuff before you commit to a date. Find a support group close to home. Follow the "Rules" and use the band wisely.
I have chosen to find a fill doc closer to home because airfare is a cost concern for me. Any readers should do the same in case of an emergency, some local docs won't see patients banded in Mexico. Find one who will.
Dr. Kuri has thousands of surgeries under his belt and an error rate to be envied by the other docs. I never felt at risk. I enjoyed Dr. Kuri's bedside manner. He is very clear in his communication, even abrupt at times. This is reassuring for me since I loathe wishy-washy MD's and the feeling that half of the words in my Doctors mouth are being "censored". This was never a concern with Dr. Kuri and I would do it all over again.

Hello All,
I am back from my banding on 3/18/06! Dr. Kuri was all that everyone
said that he would be, and more! At first I could not understand why
everyone was praising him so highly when I was reading the postings
from the board, but when you meet the man in person you will know why!
And I have met and worked with alot of doctors. Dr. Kuri and his entire
team were so wonderful to me,and my husband. I must say Dr. Kuri runs
a well oiled machine. Everyone knew what their role was in the process, and they played it.Dr. Kuri strongly emphasized the necessity of "following the rules" ie.. cl.liq. diet then full liq. eating small bites, and chewing well etc...
He also emphasized the need for good aftercare, and stated that all fills are free from his office you just have to pay the $70.00 for the hospitaal's fluro.
The Hospitales Angeles is as nice in person as it is on the web. It is
the cleanest hospital I have ever seen, and that is coming from a nurse
of 16 yrs. I know that it is new, but you can tell by the way people
are always cleaning,it will look the same 10 yrs from now. I also met
other new banders who were having surgery the same day as myself, and
we have vowed to stay in touch, and meet again for fills etc.. All I
can say is if you have any doubts or fears about going to T.J. email me
or post something to me and I will try to reassure you that you have
nothing to fear! Dr. Kuri and his team are a godsent to all of those who have been struggling for yrs. to lose weight!

Dr. Kuri really believes in his work.
He really wants his patients to succeed in weight loss efforts.
His staff is great they are so helpful
I can't think of anything that I didn't like about the Dr.
Just that you don't have to be afraid of going to Mexico to have this surgery.
Dr Kuri does tell you what you need to know about the after care but doesn't really help you as much as he could.
He does have a structured program if you can go to Mexico to get it.
He was very thorough in explaining the risks of surgery.
I would rate his as a 9
Both he is great guy.
