Dr. Kuri is a very caring person. He fully explained the AGB surgery to my husband and me using a FOAM stomach (I want a foam stomach now).

He is an extremely competent surgeon. He had four other doctors assisting him with my surgery. The hospital that he operates out of is small but clean. The hospital staff (nurses, etc.) are very caring and try very hard to understand you. Some of the hospital staff had a good English skills, and some did not. But it was never a problem.

I will warn you that this is Mexico and they operate on Mexico time. Don't be surprised if you are told an appointment time and end up sitting there for an hour before you are seen.

Dr. Kuri's office does NOT have his name on it. This caused me some concerned when I showed up for my pre-op tests but couldn't find his office although he was listed on the building directory. His office is 301. This is the first door on the right of the building.

So far our patient/doctor relationship has been through email and phone calls. I'm sure I'm a pest, but he has absolutely been the greatest help. I first contacted him by email while I was on vacation in July '01, a few days later my phone rang in the evening and there he was. I was flabbergasted by the fact that a doctor would call me after an email inquiry. Since then we've spoke on the phone numerous times, to answer questions of importance, to answer questions of non-importance (like phone # for golf course so my Father could make tee times). Thank goodness he has a great disposition, and high tolerance level :) Since my own contact w/Dr. Kuri, I've heard nothing but praise for his bedside manner, skill, and experience. There is a distinct difference in Doctors in the U.S. and Doctor's outside of the country. Granted I wouldn't trade all the knowledge and technology of US docs and hospitals, but Dr. Kuri, I feel is an exception. Also, Dr. Kuri's contact person, Angelica, pronounced an-hel-ica, is an angel.

Dr. Kuri could not have been nicer or more professional.
He made it very clear that the band is only a tool. He can
do his part and then I have to do mine. He called me at home
in the US to check and see if everything was going all right.

He will give you a sheet with guidelines for eating. Having some
training in nutrition, I was able to expand my eating. My mother
a former RD would like to see me at 1200 kcal a day which is difficult
when on liquids. I have used whey protein powder quite a bit, it helps
keep the kcal up and is very filling.

Dr. Kuri is a very caring, kind and compationate man. He takes great pride in his job and how he cares for his patients. His surgery is top notch and his bedside manner is the best there is. He is still calling me from Tijuana to check on me and has consulted with my local doctor.

Dr. Kuri is a kind, caring man and a highly skilled bariatric surgeon. He has performed around 150 laparoscopic adjustable gastric band surgeries. He goes out of his way to accommodate his US patients — always checks on them in their hotels before they return home and sometimes provides transportation to the San Diego airport. Dr. Kuri speaks fluent English and is just a phone call away if I need him.

Prior to exploring this out-of-country option, I was a skeptic about having a surgical procedure in Mexico, but Dr. Kuri is as skilled as any US surgeon. I took a friend with me to Tijuana for support, and she also gave Dr. Kuri high marks. She has been an R.N. for 35+ years and a nurse manager for more than 25 years.

There are many highly skilled surgeons in Mexico. I'm told that some of the facilities there would out class many in the United States. The Tijuana hospital I was in was very clean, and the nursing staff was skilled and caring. This particular facility is very small and basic, however.

Kuri, Pedro (Tijuana, Mexico)

Dr Kuri placed my AGB on 6/22/00. He is wonderful and I grow more fond of him each time I see him. I live in Indiana and return to him for my fills for both cost and experience factors. He is always extremely accomodating and very interested and caring. The only thing that might be considered a downside to my experience was the hospital in Tijuana. While I feel I had excellent care there, it is very small compared to US hospital and might be of concern to some. I personally just consider it the "no frills" approach - like flying coach instead of first class. Using this smaller hospital does keep cost down, which was a big factor for me as a self pay.

Dr. Kuri was very straightforward, very congenial. He has been very pleasant with my aftercare, and we are on completely different ends of the continent. His staff were very friendly. When I call his office, I get transferred to him right away.

The cost of surgery was $7,500 and it includes any further adjustments I have, not including the cost of the fluoroscope suite.

This is the only surgery I have ever had, and it went much better than I ever expected it to.

I have no negative things to say about Dr. Kuri. So many bariatric patients gush over their doctors. I don't feel like gushing over him. He was competent, honest, and friendly. I liked him. But I don't have him on a pedestal.

Heard nothing but great things about him. He specializing in Lap-Band and thats the route I have choosen. The cost of $7,500 is reasonable. Spoke to him today on the phone. Was very nice and helpful. Even offered to have someone pick us up at the airport and make my hotel reservations for me. Wow

Dr. Kuri returned my phone call almost immediately and I was able to schedule my date for surgery the week I wanted it (I am having it done on May 29th, 2001!). I have not yet met Dr. Kuri in person, but he seemed very nice over the phone and one of the bandsters I have been e-mailing has had him do a fill for her. She said he is very nice and also that he does free fills for patients he performs the surgery on. I will post more when I have met him, had the surgery, and have formed more of an opinion of him.

Okay, now that I have met Dr. Kuri, I can say that he is a very caring and kind person. He gives adequate information, but he could give a little more. He is very confident in the lap band surgery and this carries over to his patients (I've met some of them now). I like his bedside manner and he was able to perform my surgery in half the usual time, so I was happy for that. He emphasizes drinking lots of water and getting exercise. I would recommend Dr. Kuri to anyone interested in this procedure.
